Looked up in my natural gardening book. It says that scale looks like crust is actually the larvae of scale insects. To fix this is says to mix one cup of vegetable oil and one tablespoon of Murphy's Oil Soap with two cups of water and shake good. Put in a hand held sprayer and spray from top to bottom shaking bottle from time to time to keep the oil mixed. It also says to repeat the process in seven days and the scale babies will never wake up. Hope this helps. CJ
I heard if the problem is few, you can dip a q-tip into rubbing alchol and touch each individual insect
