I found these 2 orange glass candle holders in Marshalls the other day for $1.99 each and thought they'd add a bit of brightness to my deck railing. The center pot is also glass, and from Marshalls. I'm very "into" glass in the gardens the past few years - love the extra sparkle it gives.
Now, I'll be in good shape if the squirrels don't knock them off the railing in their attempts to get to the birdfeeders!
I have not used glass containers Lynne but I wanted to tell you that those look great!!! I will have to look around and see if I can find some glass ones! They are very pretty! And you are right...they add a little extra sparkle!
This is a candle holder from the dollar store - yep - only $1 - isn't it nice and bright??? I put matching blue glass stones in the bottom to add weight so it won't blow off the railing.
And... another candle holder from Ikea - 99 cents!!! WOW!
I am having so much fun finding different glass items to put my plants in - anyone else try this yet? Please show pictures when you do?
Don had 2 small multi-cacti clay pots in his office that have been neglected for YEARS! He recently moved within the office and brought them home so I could salvage the 2 small plants that had miraculously survived all this time!
I put the first one in another new blue planter - this time from Dollar Tree - a small votive candle holder. This tiny plant is only about 1 1/2 inches high.
And here is the other surviving cactus in a glass bowl that I've had for a few years:
Thanks Penny and Wrennie! (seems like Penny keeps posting with others whose name rhymes with hers! )
I got a great find yesterday at T.J.Maxx!!! I found these 2 blue glass pots? (vases?) and they were only $3.99. BUT... each one had a small chip on the top edge, so I took it to customer service - their policy has always been to take it to the first markdown if it's damaged - 25% off. The nasty, very pregnant, very young girl behind the counter kept insisting that they would only take off 10%, so I asked for a manager. She repeated the 10% off schpeal, but I persisted, and she gave me the 25% off!!! Even though it's only $1 off on each one, I knew that was the policy and stood my ground!!!
So, here is 1 of the 2 I got for $3 each - it holds a 6 inch pot. Oh, and it is not really purple on the bottom - must have been the lighting on this cloudy day... it's really more of a gentian blue!
Well done on all the above photo, especially the clear shiney blue pots. I strongly recommend planting Japanese maples in containers as they are colorful and have outstanding structure.

Thanks maplecollector! I actually have a very small japanese maple that is waiting to be planted in a large blue (frost-resistant) ceramic pot. It will be going out by the new pond that my husband is building for us.
Do you have some pictures of your own japanese maples in pots?
Found this candle holder in the garage yesterday - I had tried to grow a succulent in it a few years ago, but it didn't work. If at first you don't succeed... Now it's outside with the others.
Very nice Lynne, I love the glass idea! Now I need to get to Dollar Tree, I love that place! And I was wondering about the drainage, do the candle holders have holes at them bottom or do succulents not need the holes?
