Last night I found tell-tale clues of my arch enemy. Little red eggs under a few squash leaves. Today, I found something worse. Crawling from under a freshly trimmed pumpkin vine, was this little son of a jackal and his, probable, mate. One faced destiny between my fingers (who knew they smell very sweet?) and the other between my shoe and the sidewalk. As if that wasn't bad enough, I saw my first cuke beetle in the cukes today as well. My blissful garden is over and the battle has begun. Woman vs. Bug, who will win??

I've been putting trimmed, broken, and decaying cucurbit leaves/stems in the compost 50 feet or so from the garden, should I just be throwing them away now that bugs have arrived?

I had two of them in my hand, squish one between my fingers too. I used to be very squeamish -- until I had my first kid. Once you have your freshly-breastfed baby barf in your very own mouth, it really takes a lot to gross you out. Trust me. lol

The reddish eggs are the squash eggs. Good job at killing them all off!!
