Please help me with my gardenia's! I love these plants but seem to have difficulty getting them to bud and flower. Well, actually, they bud great, I just get buds like crazy, then they dry up and drop off. I've tried getting more acid into the soil with plant food specifically for gardenia's but that doesn't seem to do any good. I live in AZ, the plants are on the north side of my house and do get direct sun in the afternoon. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Too much sun, I'd say. Out here we're told to grow gardenias in shade inland and in sun near the coast.
Can you shade them, or move them if they're potted?
Gardenias are tropical, and need to be kept moist by misting, or by placing saucers of pebbles and water below the plants.
And if they're in the ground, I'd mulch them for coolness and moisture retention.
Good luck !

Thanks for the hint. They are in the ground, but I can shade them. i'll have to get over to the garden store and get some screen and give that a shot. I love the plants even without the flowers, they are such pretty plants.
Thanks,
Karne

You're welcome, and I'd love to hear how they're doing with shade and more humidity.
