Tell me WHERE you got that coneflower! What kind is it?
How did your new coneflower from 'that company' that sent you the coconut something-or-other new coneflower turn out? Did they send you a bigger one?

That's great! Having seen your earlier thread I had been wondering about this - what are you going to do next?

ND farmgirl: I got it at Lowe's. It was labeled as a Doubledecker Echinacea, but it has somehow mutated. The company that sent me the tiny coconut lime gave me a full refund. The plant actually survived and is going to bloom, but it's still rather small. It should get bigger next year.
Starfish: good question. I'm not sure if I should wait another year for it to get bigger and then try to divide it or go ahead and divide it this fall. I don't want to kill it. I doubt if I could ever propogate enough to make any money, and I wouldn't know where to start to allow a large nursery to do it for me.

I'd look for a way to patent it. Definitely dry one of the blooms and frame it with a pocket for some seeds. And label it. That's what they do at the botanical research centers so they have a record of plants past and present. And I would harvest the seeds and see if they are fertile and if they breed true to form. With your beautiful garden I can't see you messing it up to cultivate this one plant. I'd sell the patent to one of the big companies. Hold a blind auction for the rights to it. That is if the patent search comes up empty (it's isn't patented yet.) You may have to pay for a DNA test as well as the patent search but considering how pretty it looks it shouldn't be a problem. I'd wait until next year before I divided it. No reason to take risks with it.
