I have never had any problem with growing marigold till this yr.
when I transplanted into a bed, the next morning the plants were totaly stripped--only the skeletons left.
I thought nothing would ear marigold!!!!
any help?

I've seen slug damage on marigolds. Is there any shiny or slimey residue on them?

One insect that definitely loves marigold is the earwig or clipshear - they can do some serious damage to leaves. But not sure if you get these beasties in the States though!

... If it is earwigs, then her's my suggestion on how to deal with them (not for the squeemish!):

You can trap them by placing an upturned tin filled with straw near where they're most active. Periodically have a look inside and take out the straw and dispose of any inhabitants by burning. You can also trap them by putting some branflakes in a little cardboard box with holes in it. They also collect in habitats such as mulch, wet newspapers, rotten boards, etc.
