I went out this morning perposely to see if I could find the people who water the planters along main street. I did! The government is responsible for putting these planters along the street (some people say we give them too much tax $$ lol) and there are so many different plants! They have geraniums with regular leaves and ones with leaves which have a band of yellow on their leaves and varieagated leaves, oleanders, tropical hibiscus, purple spikes, fuschias, geraniums, begonias, cannas, petunias, lots! Anyways, I saw then and I asked them if I could take some of the prunings that they took from the plants. They told me to take all I wanted so I got roughly 10 whit oleander cuttings, and six tropical hibiscus cuttings. Now the hard part is rooting them. I know oleander is very toxic and very easy to start from cuttings...tropical hibiscus, not so easy...

since I read that the cuttings should be cut to 4-6" in length, I was able to cut the large branches into two ( the larger branches are aboud a few inches more than a feet) so roughly 20 cuttings or the whitre oleander and the tropical hibiscus! I've never had luck with rooting anything before (not even mint...I tried, can you believe it?) wish me luck! sorry for all this blabbing and bragging first thing in the morning

I've just prepared the oleanders and put them in water and just washed my hands...now I have no clue what to do with the tropical hibiscus...let's see if I can convince my dad to take me to walmart to buy some perlite

Helping the world one seed at a time

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. Mary Ann LaPensee

What fun! Isn't it exciting to be able to get free plants?!?
