Our new kittens. They are about 2 months old and my family is loving them to death.

But oh the damage they are doing to my new plants. Today one of them thought they were playing with my lilys and broke one off.

What happens to the bulb of this lily for next year?

Does anyone have any ideas of how to keep kittens out of the flowerbeds?

I feel so dumb asking a question like this, but you never know if someone hasn't come up with a great idea. I'd sure love to hear it.

Are they doing potty in the garden beds or beating up the plants like they're toys?

For potty, I used the big chunky pine bark mulch. Not so fun for kitty to paw in. And I used metal bakers racks, & old refrigerator racks, laid flat on the ground where I had planted seeds or seedlings to keep them from scratching. The wire grates get between their pads and they dont like to walk on it. Works against deer too!!
A low chicken wire fence may be a possible solution to keep them from swatting the plants.

They're playing with the plants as if they're toys. Today I chased them off when I watered the flowers so.....I know once they're older they don't play so much but who knows with three of them around......play is the best.

I had some that did that in a spot i couldnt 'fence' but outgrew it within their first year. I would make a chickenwire fence, even if its a foot high to discourage them from getting in there. Dont want them to chew a plant that could make them sick! Just be sure the fence doesnt have any sharp edges and is firmly against the ground at the base. A sprinkler on the gardn when they're out might work too.

About kitties and your lilies......
The pollen from lilies (lilium- all species)is incredibly poisonous to cats of all ages. It is a horrible death. Even a minute amount licked off of their fur will kill.
I love your kitties.

I'll do my best to keep them out of the flower beds, I know from past experience that they do out grow their mischievous behaviour after the first year. But oh my the lily story has me a bit concerned.

We were a bit afraid our dog would be jealous of them, but he is such a timid deal where they're concerned. The kittens are just doing their best to butter up to him. It's very funny to watch.

Just to let you know that Toffee the kitten that "played" with my lilies is alright. shots

I did some reading of the problems with lilies and kittens and it seems that my I MAY not have the lilies that poison cats. I'm still hoping that I'm right. nervous
