My next door neighbor has a huge honeysuckle plant. She said I was welcome to take as many cuttings as I would like. I cut a bunch last night, and I trimmed them down, took the leaves off a few nodes and put them in water.

Has anyone done cuttings like this? How well do they work? Should I go and spring for rooting hormone? How long does it take to get a plant that's ready to be put into the ground? Is the rooting hormone a better way to go than the water?

Thanks! I am a little excited about it, and if it works, I'll go to my father-in-law's and get some cuttings of a trumpeter vine. He's got several that are beautiful. I also have a co-worker who has a pink lemonade variety, and I'd love to get some cuttings from hers, too.

I never tried honeysuckle or trumpet vine cuttings. I would think if the stem is vetry woody it needs the hormone stuff. If its ;new; growth {new this spring} it should have its natural growth hormone and do ok in water.

Last Fall I whacked the heck out of the Honeysuckles on Hummingbird House. Today I went weeding in there.... There are hundreds of stems that took root where I left them. Honeysuckle is very easily rooted in water or soil or....

The ones I had in water started to rot. I will have to see if I can get them to take root in the ground, like oyu guys have mentioned. We have this old rickety fence that is falling apart, and I really want to cover it with something before we can afford to put up a new one.
