Someone asked me, a while ago, what my town looks like. I took some broad shots of Main street etc. Main street is longer. Theres a stone church at one end of town and a wooden one at the other. Its hard to see the stores on the same side of the street a me unless I walked out into the road to take them.

Want to take a tour?

This is standing in my store door looking out towards the street

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart?
The other heart was given to another for us to find.

Hey - I recognize those views! lol thumbup

I thought I had a few pictures from our visit there, to add, but I must have taken those pictures on Amy's and Nikki's cameras - don't hold your breath to see any of those! why

The area around there is sooooooooooooooo pretty!
Just a short drive down the main street and up the winding road along side the meandering stream - GORGEOUS!

not to "steal" this thread, but Mark... which colleges are you looking into in upstate NY? I went to Binghamton and U of Rochester, and Brian is still living in Ithaca after having gone to Ithaca College - what a terrific area that is! Cornell is there too. OH... and Ithaca College has a fantastic music school!

Wrennie - is the glass place open on weekends - the one that was closed when we were up there last time? Any other places like that around there? Crafters?

Wrennie, that is the kind of town I have always loved. I would enjoy walking around there, stopping here and there, just like Triss said, and to the stream.

If you see a sign for a low rent apartment give me a holler, I love that place, if my son would let go of me!!

Lynne you mean the blown glass things? I believe she's opened on weekends during the summer.
There is a place in Hurley, the name is escaping me, that is all handcrafted, many artisans from the area. I'll have to think who & where else. I'll add it to the summer camp thread when i find things.
My brother graduated from Ithaca College too!

14+, try 14+ to Chicago, then about 46+ to Everett WA! lol

I think a train ride up there would be great next year, it would be pretty fast like you said! And it would be better than driving.

Yes, Wrennie - I did mean the blown glass place -
now that I know where it is after driving past it a few times! rolz

OK - now we have to play "how old is your brother"??? lol
My sister and her ex graduated from Ithaca College in '79, and a good friend of mine graduated in '75. What did he study there?

p.s. - all the music teachers in our school district here went to Ithaca Music School except for the new band teacher... but I forgive him because he is SUCH A NICE GUY! thumbup

OHHHHHHHHHHH - loz - you and mom HAVE to come up next year!!! You will probably pass through my town even - I could drive you the rest of the way!!! clap

Oh wow, I just looked at Atracks site. I have noidea what train station you'd start at so i picked baltimore. You'd be on a train about 4 1/2 hours to Rhinecliff which is almost all the way to me! SHORT trip! grin You couldn't even finish a whole ros stitch in that time!

I'd leave out of Cumberland MD. Baltimore is about 3 hours away from me. thumbup I'm sure it will be a "do-able" thing next year! thumbup

You can go all over on Amtrak...some of the people are real train addicts and go just for the ride....

Good question, Diane!

Also, for me, I'd like to stay awhile and really enjoy the town! Are there small motels there, and/or houses where they rent rooms?

My friend owns a motel just a couple of blocks out of town. Very walking distance, and theres a bed and breakfast right in town. You could walk to my store in about 15 seconds.
When I looked on Amtracks site I saw Rhinecliff. It's the closest. Its 35 miles, about 1 hour car ride, lots of back road-ish driving. The trains are on the east side of the hudson I'm on the west side.
