I went out to water the garden this morning and I thought a feathered rat ran across my feet. It had to be a dream or an illusion right? Well it wasn't a feathered rat but it did run across my feet and it did have feathers on it...and it's still out there.


There is a perfectly formed baby sparrow out by the garden. But it can't seem to fly right. it can skim the ground but it doesn't go very far before it's back on it's feet. Is it maybe a day or two away from being able to fly?

Is there anything I can do for it besides not stepping on it when it scares me to death lol?

If you can see its nest you can put it back in. Just be sure its the right nest. Has he been there more than one day? If so he's doing fine by himself.

I have no idea where the nest was. I did see a dead bird at the lower end of the retaining wall. But no nest that I can identify.

I didn't see him today so I have no idea whether he made it or not. I hope so.

I ground up some wheat for him just incase he is still around. If not I'm sure the rest of the sparrows will find it.

What kind of sparrow is it? if it is a house sparrow I
wouldn't be to conserned about it. House sparrows are
a mennice to all other small to med size birds.

I hope it isn't a house sparrow because they will cause
damage to wren,finch,pine siskens nesting sights, and
they drive away bluebirds,when they take over their nest.

I don't know what kind they are brown and the males have caps and mufflers of black. They always remind me of feathered little irishmen. I feed them wheat seeds. The seem to do ok with the common gackle, robins and catbirds that are common around here.
