Hi guys I saw these growing in the landscaped area at the mcdonalds across from my church and got some seeds last year. they are very short with many stocks and very full really red flowers. I have enough to make up one packet if anyone is interested. You can look on my complete trade list for my wish list. I've forgotten what all I have on it lol.

Dodge and TK, can I hijack this post? I have a ? about peonies. I have 2 plants. One like the above and one white with red. Sometimes they do great and I get tons of blooms (like last year) then sometimes (like this year) I get maybe 10 blooms then the others dry up like paper. I called the home extension and was told one year to spray for thrips. I started spraying at the first bloom but it still happened this year. I had maybe 20 buds that barely started to open then turned a light brown and became paper like. Any ideas?

I've had buds disappear. But never exactly like you are describing.
Some general things I look out for is that if I use a mulch to make sure I only have 1 inch of material covering the top of the peony. They don't have enough energy to bloom if they are deeper than that. The other thing is to make sure the pH says right around 6.5. They are semi-drought tolerant so it shouldn't be a water problem.
Wish I could be of help. Maybe Doge will have the answer.

bestof four,
I would say your weather is much to warm for Peonys. Just when mine come on beautiful , the 80 degrees comes along and they dry up really fast....
They are a cold weather perennial.......i did water mine this time, and they lasted longer.......
Tk knows I kill some too.......Ha ha ha .. I sent her some and their dead she said.........I have to check the root systems on the large ones again.
Does your foilage stay pretty at all on the Peony?

the foliage stays beautiful. The plant doesn't wilt at all. The buds look like the ones on your picture then they turn a yellowish brown color and feel like paper. My extension person told me it was mites one year but I have sprayed early since then. It didn't happen last year but did this one.

Peonies are known for their disease resistance. I hope nothing has come along that can bother them that way.
Hey Nor I got your package. Thanks for the plant.
