I assume you are referring to Oriental Poppies since they are perennial. Mine came as small potted plants. I simply planted them at the plants soil level. They prefer good drainage and sun/part shade. They can get quite large in the years to come, so I would plant them about 12" apart. Keep in mind they usually go dormant in the heat of the summer leaving a gap in your garden, so don't plant more than 3 together. Then you can fill in the gap with a pot of annuals. They need cold winters to bloom and perform best in areas with cooler summers. Mine tend to look bad after blooming because of the heat and humidity so I cut them down to the ground once the foliage starts to yellow. Mulching will help keep the roots cool and help retain moisture. Depending on the size plants you get it may be a couple of years before you get blooms.

If they are oreintal poppies it will take at least 2 years to get blooms. If they are the annual poppies, they will bloom the first year and then usually reseed so you'll always have more.

Oriental poppies often come "bareroot", usually a cluster of roots with a "tip" which is the growing point. Plant it with that tip about 2 inches below the soil surface. Do you remember exactly what poppy you ordered?

Anywhere between 2 and 3 inches and you'll be fine. Such a "brilliant" red color, too! :-)

i planted my seeds about a month ago, not even a sign of germination yet, sometimes i wonder if an insect or bird ate it, but now i know i am not alone. i planted the "brilliant red" perennial. Does anyone know how long does it take to germinate at least?

Hang in there a while.
i will have oodles of poppy seeds , after mine quit blooming.
I also have the Oriental........The are the hardest to grow.. must be planted in the fall and come back so slow.

I refer the spring planted ones, like california, buttermilk, danish cross..
I should have lots of seeds later on.. Mine are in bloom and I love them all.

Remind me later of seeds. I will share.
