One of Maxi's specialists wants me to invest in Powerpoint for our home computer. She thnks this will be the best help for him in the academic years ahead.
I know nothing about it except that it is expensive.
Should something like this be purchased and put on a small computer dedicated to Maxi and this program or will it do okay crammed in with all my things I need on my pc?
Is it easy to learn? to use? Does anyone know if it will be truly helpful to a 6th grader or perhaps be more than he actually needs or would use?
Any opinions? Comments? Suggestions?

Try asking a friend, I know I use it quite a bit for giving presentations at school (I'm in HS)

I'm not sure how helpful it would be to a younger student. I use it a lot for making email-birthday invitations and the like. It is interactive--you can add animations and stuff to it and make a "virtual" type book and whatnot. It's kinda cool. It is kinda expensive though. I'd see about borrowing a copy or using it on someone elses computer before making the purchase. Most places do give student discounts, which could b e helpful.
by high school, it would be good for maxi to be completely proficient in microsoft office. here, the kids on the college track have to be to earn their college seal for their diploma.
kate had to do a power point presentation as part of one of her clubs her junior year. the good news is that she did it so well that her presentation was one of the top 5 in the state.
I have a former 6th grader now going into 7th grade and she has been using powerpoint for years now. it is a great tool for letting kids express their creativity. my kids aged 12 and 10 even make slideshows/animated films on ours. By all means, get it any way you can,buy it,borrow it,whatever...you will not regret it!
Thank you, everyone, for your posts. They have helped clarify things for me.
Because Maxi's learning disability involves his ability to organize information on a piece of paper (it is a spacial problem), the doctor told me Powerpoint will format for him. Maxi knows the information and knows where it should go, but he can't seem to manage to put it there when working by hand.
Now I am going to talk to my computer guy about running Powerpoint in my older computer which doesn't have a ton of memory.
Thanks again.
