What is the deal with hostas-I know they say they need mostly shade but I see some people plant them in the sun anyway and they do ok.I really love them and I would really like to plant them in the front of our house (southern exposure) with some golden spirea etc.and use the red bark to mulch. What are the chances that they would do ok?Any one have any suggestions for me?

There are over 200 varieties of hosta some can take more sun than others. You have to research each kind to see how much sun they can take. My neighbor has some planted with southern exposure. They aren't huge but they haven't died back.

Usually the ones with a LOT of white on them burn in the sun.

Linda, I have hostas in full sun but it doesn't get that hot here. Depends on your zone I think.
