[color:#3366FF][/color]i got very sick last week with some kind of upper respiratory crap going around. called into work thurs. and fri., dreading going to work on sat. so i called first........as luck would have it they filled out the termination papers fri. this is gonna sound wierd....i'm soooo happy!

i have hated walmart for a long time because they are the leading cause companies have been run out of the country and set up shop in these third world places just so they can make the money they used to BEFORE walmart entered the picture.

but, just like every other company, they like to give the employees the least possible. they took away merit raises along time ago and then adjusted the pay raises to 3--40, 45, and 50 cents yearlly. the trouble is only 3 people in the whole store in 2 years has gotten the 50 cent "exceeds" raise. they put things on your evaluation that doesnt even apply to your job, then mark you off because you don't do it . then you get your 40 cent "meets" raise!

just wanted you to know some things about your local wally world!

i am soooo glad to be gone except for losing my health insurance. they are not worth my time anymore. oh yeah, it could not have been any better timing....i was scheduled to work all through the memorial day weekend. well i was off after all! haha from what i heard from friends the bakery was in a real bind too!!!!

i have 2 places where i can peddle some crafts so that is what i'm going to do. also, gonna get my business license to start doing cakes out of my home. AND, me and mom are gonna drum up some housecleaning business in cookeville. i did it for 8 years in nashville, might as well do it here. to my surprise, there is a much need for it out here.

all of this is gonna take a while, in the mean time i should be around here more! i miss everyone! wavy

I'm not a big fan of wlamart either, you're right they are forcing many of the smaller businesses into brankrupcy. I think their methods of business isn't the best

Well, it sucks that you got fired but at least it was a good thing. I hope that all your other business ideas pan out and are lucrative for you. Best wishes and good luck!!

Hopefully everything will work out for you Wendy. Can you get health insurance with part time work somewhere while you start your new business?

They fired you on what grounds? You called in sick? Can they do that? Being a Wal-Mart hater myself I'd be inclined to try my hand at an unlawful termination suit.(Just for fun.) Good to hear that you have other ways to make money, and that you're even a little bit happy about leaving.
Stick it to the man!

Sorry to hear that you lost your job Wendy but if you are happy about it then I guess it is a good thing! It is awful what they did to you though!

Shadylady, I work at Sears and I can be fired on the spot for calling in sick (even with Dr's note) on any one of these days: Friday, Saturday, or a Sunday. Retail has some pretty crumby rules...

Wow, Canadian rules are different. You'd never be fired here for sick days, especially with a doctors paper.

you can be fired for just about any reason except race, sex, religion. or if you've got a contract. otherwise, you're an 'at will' employee.

yeah, it rots. big time.

all in all, losing a job at walmart will turn out to be the best thing they could have done to you!!

i HATE walmart - they've just overrun every other company. and they are awful to work for. a friend of mine was fired for calling out sick, also. and THAT was about 15 years ago.

good luck with your new ventures!

I worked at Sears for two years, part time, and they would not have fired me for having a sick day. Sounds like it was a Blessing in digiuse Wendy. Hope you do well in your future endeavors.

I knew of a man who was a greeter at WalMart. There was a time that was very slow I think it was when the back wall flooded and they were closed. So they sent him home. Over the nest few weeks they called him and said dont come in or sent him home early. He didnt ask to go didnt call in to say he wasnt coming. THEY did. And he was fired for too much missed work time.

gee, thanks everyone! i think i was venting more than complaining, but i am glad too see soooooo many of you hate walmart too because of their BIG BUSINESS thing!

yep, never been fired before, but oh well! I AM STILL RELIEVED!

i put together a craft room upstairs, i have had a bunch of supplies from over the years, since i never used the room anyway, time to get motivated!

i guess i should have said this of course WAS'NT my first time calling in for a 3 year period. i used to joke with everyone that if i got fired from there it would not be because i did not do my job well, it would be just being there to do it at all! (some of you know i have trouble with migraines) let's just say my head has caused me alot of grief.

ALSO, i am sure to have health insurance again, but won't the few things i have been treated for these few years fall under the "pre-exsisting condition" and new insurance won't cover them? INSOMNIA------MIGRAINES-------NECK PROBLEM?????? can't live without my ambien!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks again for everyone's support.....i am off to get updated round here!

good luck wendy... i feel your pain on the pre-ex... the good news is that after you have the insurance for 18 mos, they have to cover EVERYTHING, including pre-ex. federal law.

just getting through the 18 mo period is the problem... was for me anyhow. now, we have it all covered, it's much better.

usually. some pre-ex times are less, my current employer doesn't even allow pre-ex. all depends on the insurance and the employer. but, yes, after 18 mos on the insurance, you should be covered from that point forward.

Sorry to heart about the job loss, Wendy--but I too hate Wal_mart (I shope there though---(prices dictate that)

I contend that one day they are going to be the only thing in town & then they will do as they please in all areas---

About the insurance---I was told once by an insurance agent--to get the insurance and then do not make any claims on the prexixting illnesses for 12 months--then after 12 mo you are good to go--this was a while ago--perhpas, like Jiffy said, 18 would be better.

Good Luck!!!

unfortunately, it will take a generation to do that. it is like kmart and sears used to be. now, neither are all that... walmart will get their come-uppance, it will just take time.

Channel 6 in Tulsa did a piece on Walmart in the Tulsa area. They went to 6 different stores, priced the same items, and got 6 different prices.

It seems Walmart bases their prices on location and how many Kmarts, and other stores are close by. The more affulent parts of town had the higher prices.

I also hate Walmart.

Amigatec, almost all stores do that, and grocers are the worst. It's a very common practice.

I think walmart is pretty much hated by all, but it's just so darn easy to shop there. They've got everything! lol
