I'm a little nervous.. I have pea pods, and tomato blossoms, here in NYC, today... only [at least]1 month too early! The plants themselves are only 8-12 inches tall, no way will they be able to support fruit... Must be this odd weather pattern this year, as it's never happened before.. What should I do? --Mark--

can you cover them up, then uncover them when the weather cools down. Sounds strange but I did it one year after someone told me and I managed to keep 2/3 of the crop. You could always set some new seeds too then you would have a late crop also. Goodluck Mark.

Mark - I believe you can just pinch the early buds off, in hopes of making the plant bigger and stronger. Hopefully someone else will come along with more experience than I!
I agree though... all my plants are blooming earlier than usual this year. I'm not happy about my early blooming perennials - they are in full bloom, and then there will be nothing from them for the rest of the summer!

My Tomatoes are trenched so there is never all that much above ground and they have no problem supporting fruit. So I wouldn't worry about them. I've never grown pea pods though.

Thanks for the advice Glenda, Lynne, and tk! The tomatoes are raised only about an inch above ground, so I think I'm going to pinch off the tomato blooms... the peas I'll support better, and hope that everything bears well! **Just as a side note, everything else is doing great.. I've already picked 3 full sized radishes, and my grand rapids lettuce is only about 2 weeks away from picking **
