Cool, we can't even plant here yet. lol

You are all making me crave for fresh veggies. What kind did you plant Deb?

I don't know-the tag said only "cherry tomato".
It was so good, and there are zillions more on the vines.
They're turning gold now so it won't be long 'til I'm out there with the sea salt !

That is wonderful Deborah! We haven't even begun to plant tomatoes here. Soon though!

Deb, that's awesome. I'm still waiting for my plants to make me something edible.

Sandy, any sort of potting soil would be fine. I use cheapy walmart potting mix but I've heard that the hyponex is terrible, terrible stuff. That is the only thing that I try to stay away from.

Thanks ! I'm now eating one or two every couple of days as they ripen.
The strange thing is, I didn't stake this cherry tomato, and it's the healthiest plant I have ever had.
It's just sprawling all over the place and absolutely loaded.
How weird !

Hmmm, I wonder if it is the variety, weather, or the staking? What do you think?

I have no idea-the weather is nice, off and on, and I don't know the variety, so maybe this one is just to make up for all my tomato failures !
They've always been in containers as is this one.

I now have several ripe and ready, and so many green ones I couldn't count them all-and this is a plant that I didn't stake, and forget to water sometimes ! Unreal !
The flavor of these large ping pong ball size tomatoes is incredible. Like mini beefsteaks.
Too bad the tag didn't give a name-it just said "cherry tomato".

Oooh Deborah, that really is amazing! You grew them in containers, right? Mine are in containers too, but they are yet to produce any fruit!

Picked and ate my first cherry tom yesterday. Second one fell off too, but I'm letting it "window ripening" a day or two more. I have tons and tons of green ones. It looks like it will be a good year this year, after a poor one last year. Also have Celebrity toms about golf ball sized now. Anyone out there have any experience with this one?

Well today I was my first two tomatoes on one of the 'sweet william' tomatoes. They are tiny and green but they are there so I'm very happy.

Please somebody, anybody, come and pick the cherry tomatoes !!!
I'm FLOODED with them ! And so many green ones it's unbelievable.
No pests, no disease, no breakage, no problems at all, and this is the one I let sprawl and didn't stake ! Unreal !
The greatest success that I as a container gardener have ever had !

Hello: I started growning tomatoes in "Earth Boxes" about three years
ago,and I must say I was really pleased at how many tom's I got out
of only 6 plants. I have them on my deck so the critters have a harder
time trying to get to them.

Has anyone else used Earth Boxes? www.earthbox.com I also have peppers
and cukes growing also.

Some nursery stores and garden supply sell the boxes

Hi try,

What I've found works for growing great tomatoes is a mix of 50% compost and 50% garden soil. It makes all the difference in the world to the tomatoes. They are very heavy feeders and this is the way to give them what they need to produce lots of tomatoes. They also appreciated a teaspoon of potash sprinkled around their base early in the growing season.

I didn't cut back any large leaves and I've got over 50 cherry tomatoes on 6 plants right now. I'm thrilled by the improvement in my crops from adding the compost.
