Have you ever lost your car in a parking lot? I have more than once. But today I saw something very strange.

There was a bird with a worm in it's mouth sitting on a pole in a grocery store parking lot. She was calling and calling. I watched her for quite sometime and then she flew down right to the foot of the light pole next to the car. And after listening intently she flew up into an uncovered light fixture and fed her babies.

I can't believe she managed to nest in there. It just seemed so strange.

The poor mother bird couldn't find her nest? I'm glad to hear that she did, though! That is pretty cool, Tammy. It's amazing what is adapting to our concrete world, isn't it? BTW, did you ever get that box I sent?

Killdeer now nest almost exclusively on the flat, gravel covered, man-made, roofs of shopping malls, schools and businesses. Before civilization encroached on them, Killdeer were shorebirds in the Plover family, that nested on the flat, gravel, natural, beaches, bars, and shores, of rivers and streams across the U.S. and Canada. Killdeer are no longer shorebirds, but are evolving into a species that lives in close harmony with man and man's artifacts. These flat rooftops are actually MUCH SAFER AND BETTER than the original natural sites the Killdeer originally used, and because of these artificial nesting areas, the Killdeer population in the New World is EXPLODING at an astronomical rate.

Hi Landofoz, I sure did and went out and planted the lilly of the valley immediately. And it seems to be doing well. All except one of the littlest ones. But I'm babying that one along so hopefully that one makes it too. That was plenty of plants. I hoped you would see my post where I said I had gotten it but I forgot where the originial post was so it was probably hard to find. What do I owe you in postage and for the box?

Yes, I've forgotten where I've parked a few times lol

Birds can be strange, yesterday we had 4 or 5 swallows fighting over a nest in the barn. DH said maybe they are trying to figure out who the father is. grin

OH Tamara: lol You made me laugh. lol I enjoy reading about your family & its happenings. thumbup You remind me so much of when we were younger and living on our "farm"---(house, barn, cattle shed, smokehouse, truck shed, garage & 3 acres of pasture on 5 acres)
We had a great time raising our 2 daughters and all the various animals there.--We moved to town because the up keep was too much on us with Rod working all the overtime he was. boohoo
