I thought I had dug up and given away all of my glads but it looks like a few stayed around. They are small ones and may not bloom this year. But I'm glad to see them all the same. I have three of them in the old bed. I'll move them to the new bulb bed later when I get cooled down. I'm just really happy they escaped my lifting efforts last fall.

Glads do not overwinter here but they are so pretty. I'm sorry I didn't pick up any yet. Must put that on my list.
What colours do you have?

I have a vibrant red. It is really a nice color. These are tiny and there are actually 5 rather than three. I dug them up spliting one bulb but the baby has the starting of a thick root so maybe it will survive. I'll just have to wait it out and see how it does. I transplanted them behind where I'm going to plant the celosia in the wine, yellow and carmine colors. I think that is going to look great. Of course I won't know for sure until they come up. But it's an idea anyway. And the celosia are annuals so I can always put something else in front if I decide I don't like those.

I've only planted them once, not knowing that they can't overwinter and lost them all. They were a purplish colour. The colours on them are so bright.
I remember having to stake and tie them up as well.

Thanks Penny it was happy news for me.
Your right tamara they do need to be staked.
Although I've heard that the miniatures don't. They tempt me when I see them in the catalogs.

I love glads I love the bi colors.I have a early orange with yellow eye.I have a pink with white center pricillia& a red with white eye....I'd have to look up last years for the name.I bought some pastels that came in a watercan at walmart with the acidanthera's(which bloom in fall& are fragrant white with brown center)My older acidanthers...some years they bloom some they don't.its a zonal thing they are not as hardy.I do plant mine much deeper than called for.at LEAST the deepth of shovel& then some. I'm loading a picture now with 1 bloom of them in it.I sent some baby ones to jiffymouse.Power company was cleaning the power line area...so up on main road where we're growing in their way...I dug hundreds of them up.added more to my yard...a few neighbors yards,,,SIL yard a few folks on here. They had washed out of Janies yard. That area won't bloom next year as we know from 5 years ago......And I'm just a sucker for orange(not enough orange flowers in my opinion...)Sometimes I gets seeds set...but not on all of them. The police dept here has their sidewalk lined in purple ones.I want some of them too. They look really good right now.Mine take 8 weeks to bloom mostly& i'll stagger some.I sowed another 5 bulbs of the pastels today...cause the others are starting to get the bud stalk. And its SO NICE to not grow them in Indlps anymore....cause I'd gotton up to close to 500 or better and would dig them every sept and place in trashcan with peat moss& replant every June.when I worked 60 hrs a week is when I learned if we're staggered....they'd be in bloom all summer.I just kept plantng out on my days off every 7-9 days all summer. flowers/May162007gladiolidaylillyconeflower.jpg" alt="[Linked Image]" class="post-image" style="height:auto!important;max-width:100%!important;"/> I love this shot. The sun was riseing and the sun was shineing through the flowers making them look neat-o. flowers/May132007gladswithsunbehindblooms.jpg" alt="[Linked Image]" class="post-image" style="height:auto!important;max-width:100%!important;"/> When prisscillia gets all of her stalk open we'll post a shot, she has 2 open.I forgot what ones planted in bed outside of fence, but they'll be blooming soon.SIL thinks I bought some yellow ones...so we'll see.I hope she's wrong...I betted 5 $ she was wrong.

That is good looking and 10 bulbs for 2 bucks is quite a deal. Glad you held on to them after a lackluster performance last year.

I'm glad I read this, now I'm wondering if I should have planted some glads in a container. I could still transplant them into my flower bed, I'm also not sure which ones I bought, for I threw the package out. What do you say I should I do?

it would depend on the size of the container. If it is heavy enough that the glads don't tip it over when they bloom I'd say they are fine. You only need six inches of room between the bulbs if I remember correctly.
But put the stakes in now so you don't damage the roots later.

I would pot them up in a container...you could always plant some annuals in as well.
I'll have more blooming soon& plus I sowed another pack of pastels. It just has 5 in it.(one of them walmart wateringcan bulb gardens...lilly/glads/acidanthrus/liatris)I bought 2 cans. The lilly7 glads was what sold me(plus was clearance)

That's what I planned on doing once it's nice enough to plant annuals around here. The pot is large and heavy so I think they'll be ok. I still have some in my greenhouse just waiting for some nice weather so I can plant them in my flower beds. I planted them in pots so they'll be ready to go. Am I right that these bulbs must come out over winter? How do you store them?

When I stored mine.(Indpls)I emptyed a bag of peat moss in trashcan.I'd lift my bulbs 3-4 weeks after foliage started turning.I'd wash them up and lay on screen to dry.as they'd finish blooming I'd wash dry layer in the peat moss cans.I stroed my screen to screen door on top so guess they got air well. My ones finsihed blooming are forming some seeds. These are blooming. The white just opened this morning.Pricillia is blooming, but have not snapped a shot of her yet.My yellow'Jacksonville Gold' will bloom soon too.

it's over a month before I can expect mine to bloom that is if any of them are large enough to bloom. I'm not to sure about that.

Gorgeous glads, njonit!!!
I especially like the salmony white one!
My Christmas Tree Shops had all their leftover bulbs on sale for 75% off last week - all they had left were glads - I got 4 bags of 15 bulbs each in yellow, 1 bag of 15 bright pinks, and 1 bag of 15 light pinks - each one was only 74 cents for 15 - what a steal!!! I wish they had more of the pinks, but was very glad to have found the ones I did. Gave 2 of the yellow bags to my dad. Most of the bulbs were already sprouting about an inch of green growth in the store - I need to get them planted ASAP!!!
Look around, people - you never know what your store has marked down for you!

Well my red traderhorns have not bloomed yet.But had a white show up with them that I didn't know about planting.Pricillia bloomed flowers/May312007Pricilliagladstalk.jpg" alt="[Linked Image]" class="post-image" style="height:auto!important;max-width:100%!important;"/> and guess the saloman one is one of the 'pastel colored ones'I have 2 more that same color it seems that will bloom.I check the other glad stalks every few hours seeing if any color peeking yet& the same glad pastel 5 pack sowed 3 weeks later than these. Early glads are 65-75 days mid season glads 75-85 days late season glads 85-105 I think the very earlys are 57 days early mid 70-72 days I bought a bag of 25 mixed purples for $5 yesterday.I want the pinks mixed bag now.
