I'm crossing my fingers in toes on these. I harvested them from the McDonalds accross the street from my church last year. I hope they are fertile. I planted 18 and I really want them to germinate. They are a deep rich red on a short stock but large fully double flowers.

I'm going to plant them with a good amount of compost unless that's a bad idea. Please let me know what you think.

There were some huge, gorgeous red zinnias at the University garden last year. I meant to go back and get seeds, but forgot. Be sure to get a photo of yours when they bloom later! I just started some of the Zowie Yellow Flame zinnias from seeds I harvested last year. Good luck with yours!

In my experience, NOTHING can stop a zinnia from growing. They can even withstand a Ground-Zero Nucular Explosion. Go ahead! Plant them anywhere, anyway ya' want!

Hey Alan if they sprout, I have more than I can use. Would you like me to send you some? I know they would find a great home with you.

Hey Bird Man how are you doing? Your right I've had good luck with the zinnia I've planted the last two years. I'm just worried that I may have harvested before they were mature seeds.

And this is the first time I've been able to prepare beds that are actually full of good nutriments and soil for the little plants to grow in. All my plants will probably go into shock being treated well after they years of abuse. lol.

5 packets Loz? That's a lot of zinnias. Did you plant all the different kinds like the liliput and giants and all?

Yep, Lilliput, Giants, and cactus ones....I just love them!!!! I plant them all over the yard, I even keep a special section at the bottom just for cuttings. Plus I give a few to my neighbor and mom! thumbup I have quite a good bit of space to fill in with them though....I like my plants pretty close together so it looks lush.

Can't wait to hear more about how yours turn out for you!

Just about all that I planted sprouted so I should have a nice full flower bed.

That's a very different looking zinnia. There sure are a bunch of stalks off of that plant. Did you pinch it back while growing? I'd like to get that many stocks off of mine. How tall does that variety get?

Are there different types of Zinnias? Mine looked nothing like that. Maybe I bought the wrong annuals last year. lol

18-24 inches.it gets leggy with shade. It looked horrible last year being shaded by taller plants(cannas.castor bean, goldenrod)I have one spot thats giving it total full sun non stop& the other(pictured)is afternoon shade.I'm glad this year the stems are growing stright not curly and bent this way and that way or plum flat to ground. It also reseeded a lil in last years spot(3 lone stems)
another favorite is the profusion ones.I like the orange better than the white seemed to bloom more.I liked the persion carpet too,but the stems seemd very dainty. It reseeded as well.My liliput's reseeded and we're the 1st to bloom.I have 2 pinks in bloom right now.I have some california(cut& come again...you cut...it branches and blooms again....over& over)I saved them by color, but only kept the orange& the pink with orange overtones and salomon.I saved some white....but won't know WHICH white till bloom.I lost the green envy& even with cleaning computer room have not came across.I know they are in glass jar...just not WHERE.I'd love to try the 2 toned ones or even just some plain yellow. I tried the carnival/state fair ones, they don't like my climate. They got brown spots on the whole plant ( but liked the reds coloring)I tried some dwarfs long time ago was bought as plant& it really bloomed alot!

The patch in picture was the remaining seeds at end of year saved in napkin.it was proably 50 seeds or better. My other 2 patches are smaller.I have these sown in my patriotic section in hex bed.hopeing to seed the whole section(with white cleome, red salvia

Woohoo the zinnias have their true leaves. So today I feed and tomorrow depending on the weather I will plant. I'm so looking forward to these blooming. My garden is a little sparce after giving everything away for the move that hasn't happened yet. That was aggrevating.
