Hi there.

Ok, so last week I'd asked if anyone had ever tried the homemade beer fertilizer...

I've read about some other things. I read on another forum that acid loving house plants can be watered with leftover black coffee. It will act as a mild fertilizer.

I also came across a post somewhere online about adding a small amount milk to a gallon jug of water to water peace lilies. The poster said it would help them to bloom more often.

Please, please, please prayers, I never mean to cause controversy by asking such things. When I come across these things, though, I wonder if others have tried it and what their results were. It's all in the interest of fun and information.

I'm not sure if you're asking or apologizing... But I've heard milk makes a good fungicide.

LOL Perhaps a little of both, Oz.

It's just that when I asked about the beer fertilizer, it seemed that things got a tad bit, borderline testy. Just a bit. I don't want anything I post to cause that.

We water our pumpkins with milk when they bloom. I also put coffee grounds in my flower gardens. Just something passed down from old farmers.

The milk is suggested for poinsettias too.

And I've used coffee grounds but never poured the coffee into a pot. Mostly because I used to put milk and sugar in mine. I don't drink it anymore.

I'm not sure about beer fertilizer but I do know that it can be used to activiate the organisiams in a compost pile to make it heat up.

I've also heard that compost tea is good for the garden. I tried it last year but I didn't notice any difference. And since it stinks I use the miracle gro instead lol.

Then there is the homemade weed killer: Vinegar, salt and dishsoap.

And honey can be used in place of root stimulator. Or at least that's what I've heard.

Wow, so this milk thing may not be so strange after all...

How are the coffee grounds working out for you guys?

Honey as a root stimulator? Really? I wonder if honey has a lot of b-vitamins. It's the b-vitamins that are supposed to make superthrive so great, isn't it? I think a lot of people use it as a root stimulator and to help ease transplant shock.

Thanks!

The only benefit I noticed about the coffee grounds is that they work sort of like sand in that they don't clump. And with clay soil like I had to work with that was a blessing.

Coffee grounds are a good source of nitrogen. I stalk Starbucks ('cause I hate coffee) and take their free bags of used coffee grounds for my compost pile. I usually get 2 or so 2-gallon-ish sized bags. I even add them around my tomatoes and sprinkle some in with my beloved worms.
