I got a cliping of a wondering jew plant from a friend a while ago and when I took it home and put it in water it seemed to grow roots very easily and quickly so I planted it and it has done quite well.
The problem is that the main vine accidentally got broken off and it doesn't seem to want to grow roots again. I put it in water but after a week it hadn't done anything so I cliped the end a bit and put it in water again and it still doesn't look like it's doing anything. Any thoughts about this? should I just plant it and hope for the best?
Me too, I've grown TONS of wandering jews from cuttings and sometimes it takes a while but the roots do eventually show up, at least they have for me! Good luck!
Wandering jews are amazingly easy to root, you don't even need to put them in water. Simply cut and stick in the soil. My wandering jews are very bushy and it's because whenever I prune them, I just stick the cuttings right back in the soil. Trust me, it works great!
Whenever I take cuttings of my wandering jews (they're outdoors, though) I strip off the lower couple of leaves and nick the node with a fingernail, use my trusty wooden spoon handle to poke a hole in the soil, insert the stem and they grow very well. I started my 8'x 1' boarder with a a small piece I found on the ground at the produce stand last summer.
Great information. I bought one for my container from the nursery, I didn't know you could make them houseplants. I will have to take some clippings from it toward the end of the growing season and try to make a houseplant of it. Or at least propogate it for next years container.
I do the same thing w/ my purple jew--I break off a piece, take off the lower leaves, and bury it in the ground. Keep it wet, and it roots out. I have several pieces that came back this year, even after out late frost.

Hi Betty if you could get the sun behind you but not let your shadow fall on the plants we would bet pictures that would be easier to see. Just a helpful tip. I am a horrible picture taker myself but I've been told that is the way to do it. I'm sure some of our photographers could make even better suggestions.
Wow Bettyboop that is a great WJ. I have never had the luck getting my WJ to look like that. That is one of my DH favorite plants and I love it to because of all the purple. It doesn't matter if I put indoors or out it turns brown, gets leggy and spindly then it dies. Any suggestions? Thanks.
it needs lots of moisture/humidity. a well lit bathroom, or hanging over a fishtank is a great way to grow it in the house. outside, a partially shaded (either morning or afternoon sun) will grow them well, as long as you water well when it just barely starts to dry.
I just have mine hanging out on front porch and spray with hose and water then i just leave it maybe ur watering it too much i water this maybe 2 x out of week but i do spray with garden hose since we are up in the 90s
