Well I finally started 6 of these. I bought them over the winter and I'm looking forward to how they do.
Has anyone tried them yet?

I hope so too. About how long did it take them to sprout? I'm thinking it was around 5 days for the regular zinnia last year.

The first one has sprouted. I'm so excited. My plan for them is to have one of the candy cane ones in the middle of a grouping with 3 of the midi Really Red Zinnias planted around it. And then 6 of the groupings in the bed. I thought that might look fun.
I'm just not a landscape artist. But they are annuals I can always change it next year lol.

I have some of the red spider zinnias. They took 8 weeks to bloom, but they've grown ALOT with the last 2 days in the 90s.Only others blooming now are some lilliputs& I think they are from last year(self sowed will resprout for me...sometimes thats a bad thing too though......)
I will age ungracefully until I become an old woman in a small garden..doing whatever the Hell I want!

I haven't seed the red spider zinnias. I'd love a photo if you have one. They sound pretty.

well I didn't get one hundred percent germination on these. But they have their first set of true leaves so I feed them and they'll go out in the garden in the next day or two. I've got my fingers crossed.

I planted seeds in a 10 cup peat tray; about 2 seeds to a cup. Of the few seeds which came up, I have 3 sprouts. They are about 8 inches tall and leggy (in my apartment) I hoped I could have me a pretty blooming plant in here...but maybe not. It seems like they sprouted in about a week. I have three Sweet William (Dianthus) in here, and they are blooming profusely!!!

Interesting about the sweet williams. I had no idea they would bloom inside. Your right the zinnia's are really to tall and thin to make a good house plant. But they will bloom later in the year. It's to early yet. I'm in zone 7 and they aren't blooming here either. But once summer hits you'll have all kinds of blooms on them. For houseplants I'd try the lilliput ones. They are short in statue and would do much better. And if you want them to bloom out of season I'd use a grow light about 12 to 16 hours a day on them. It fools my aloe and mint into blooming all the time.

The Candy Cane Zinnia have budded I'm so excited to see what they end up looking like.
The dwarf Red Zinnias don't have buds yet but I imagine they won't be to far behind the other ones. I'm excited.

Thankyou so much for the picture. That looks like a single bloom. I wonder if they all are or if there are double blooms as well.
