Now down here in the south, impatiens like the shade the best. The heat gets so high and even tho it is quite humid, even in the shade, my impatiens tend to wilt easily. Yes they do need lots of water.

Like Sherri, I have to plant impatiens in the shade here.
The New Guinea impatiens can take a little bit more sun than the other types, but even those wilt quickly with the heat we can get in summer.

I've actually given up growing them, as they are a bit too fussy for me. I do, however, plant tons of them in my parents' gardens, as they have lots of shade there, and there aren't too many plants that do well there for them.

i got mine in shade, i always plant them in my shade area, and they do great.

The regular impatients do better in shade I find as well. Also out of the wind, they seem to be tender.
