Standard garden mums have arrived in nurseries. If planted now, pinched back till July, watered well and mulched so the roots get well established; there is a good chance they will be perennial and return for at least several years.

Choose solid colors. The newer cultivars do not winter over well. I've had sucess with mauve and white. Am trying yellow this spring even though most yellow flowers don't do well in MI.

I have the bronze and the burgandy from last year. The yellow and white didn't make it. I just pruned the bronze this week. The burgandy I allowed to put on a few flowers. I just needed to see the color in the garden. I couldn't help it.
