The rhubarb I planted 2 years ago is still as runty looking as it was in the beginning.

It has very thin stalks which are very short with big leaves.

I have given it a couple of fish fertilizer feedings but still no difference.

Is there something else I could be doing.

OR is it the type of rhubard plant I have and will never get better.

hope someone can give me at tip.
thanks

Mine lovessssssssss COMPOST!!!
Rich soil all around it..
and no weeds in sight..

I give it a fresh dressing around it
in the spring and it just thrives...

Do you happen to have a picture?
Maybe we can see something...

What kind of soil/dirt do you have?
How's the water supply for it?

My soil had a sandy base but we have added compost every year. The water supply this year is from one of those soaker hoses. But previously it was watered from overhead sprinklers.

I gave it two good feedings of fish fertilizer this spring and still it didn’t perk up.

see picture....I sure hope I did this right. let me know if you can view picture.

I just harvested most of the leaves in hopes it would sprout larger ones with second growth.
The plant looks not so bad but it really is kind of puny. The green markers near plant are only 6" in total and part is already in the ground. So you can see that the stalks are very short. Don’t know whether the skinny stalks can be seen in the picture you view.

no one else replied to my problem of skinny rhubarb. I decided to douse it with lots and lots of fish fertilizer. and guess what...that did the trick.

it is not too tall and stalks are not quite so thin. the leaves are large and green which leads me to believe there is too much nitrogen.

next year I think I will did it up and plant it not so deep.
that may be another problem.
