So.... i have some babies & roots going on. My question is:The 2 leaves that are stuck in the dirt vertically were stuck in at the same time. The one as you see has a baby. The other is still green but no stem. they've been in there for about a YEAR!! Whats it waiting for? When I leave single leaves flat on the soil surface they go silver & shrively.
the one leaf, without the baby, if you notice, it isn't shrively yet. it looks like it was thicker than the one with the baby, and at a more vertical angle. i think it is just taking it's time to root up.
But Jiffy a whole year?? Its root should be in China by now!
Weezie I have very limited space to put pots. And I'm always thinking if its ok where it is leave it alone My messing with it might kill it :(
Triss I had maybe 7 leaves stuck in there, only those 2 didnt shrivel. The stem sending roots fell off momma plant and I just let it sit there, idnt touch it at all, and away it went, root, root, root.
TOTALLLLLLLLLLLY understand on the space limitations, morrrrrrrrrrrrrrre than you know!!! We're almost on top of each other here in this match box.
But for the Jade, and liking to be root bound, just look at the size preportions at that tiny leave, per that big pot.. It's got a long way to go, to get big..
Try some Fish Emulsion... They like that stuff...

yes, wrennie, a whole year. i've had that happen.
and while weezie is right about the pots, i'm with you, i'd just leave it where it is.
i think it just needs a little more time and maybe more light?
I always propagate from a small stem with no problem. Stick them in a jar of water and away they go. Then when they have roots they go into a small pot. My jade has been with me for 36 years and is a part of the family. It started as a 4 inch youngster. I suppose if you can't spare a stem, then leaf rooting will do fine. Wouldn't it need to "grow" a type of stem first before the roots? Good luck.
Wish I could say the same Weezie, for I've tried with leaves in the dirt and with water and no luck. One way I haven't done it yet is stick a stem into water, so far my jade hasn't been big enough to spare a stem, but I'll soon be able to.
