Bestofour, First communion is the first time a child receives Eucharist in their church. (Holy bread and wine). I remember my DD and her friends all dressed like little brides when they received it, white dresses, veils and all. My grands are being raised in my DH's religion so it is not followed there. My clothes dryer broke down, I have it tore apart to figure out the part(it is just a thermal fuse that blew). I can tell you that for all the guys in school who made fun of me for taking the 'Appliance Repair' course.....I can laugh at them now (I was one of the few that paid attention).

My church does communion differently but glad he took communion. Sunny, I could get my dryer apart but not sure I could get it back together correctly.  Beautiful spring is happening here.

My mom passed away yesterday. Funeral is Tuesday. I am not well. I took a covid test, it was negative....my niece will bring a flu test over today.
I may or may not be back in for awhile. I will be back as I can.

Oh Junie, I'm sorry about your mother and that you're sick. I'm glad it's not CoVid. Colt has strep throat so maybe it's something as simple as that.

Thank you both so very much for your kind words. I am about 98% better tonight. All I need to do now is stop this random cough. So no strep, thank goodness .
My DD is flying in from the East Coast on Sunday night and leaving on Wednesday. It sure will be nice to see her. I will get to see her on Tuesday for the funeral. I have no idea when my DD Valarie will be coming down.

Thanks for trying. My house is all cleaned and I even started raking the few bare spots from where the snow melted....with this weather, it will be all melted by the end of the week.

Today I am tackling the tops of my kitchen cupboards and all the 'items' that are displayed. I think a person could clean it every month and it would still be a 'gummy mess' to deal with. I should have built my cabinets to the ceiling.

Thank you both... I think not living close to mom as I used to helps my grief. My mind can think she is at "home" and alive and well. I brought home some things, and a few household items. When I use them, I will think of her.

Junie. When my grandmother died, I asked for her beaded necklace....it has no monetary value but she loved it and wore it on special occasions. I take it out and look at it and remember her fondly. It's the little things sometimes.

It's cold for me here today 49° but the sun is shining. I'm still at Ginger's. Really no reason to go home.
Gas here is still hovering around $4.00 a gallon. Hope it can stay that way.

Boy that is warm Juniegirl. At what temp do tomatoes stop producing fruit? I think that happened to me summer before last. We bought a cover but I'll have to have someone help me get it up this year. Colby is so busy I hate to ask him to help with anything so I'll have to find me someone. Ging and Chris are in MS and Colt and I are home alone They should know better than to leave us home alone!

Yes, I ordered my raised bed. 6 x 3 and 2 feet high.
It should be here Friday.....now to figure out the ratio of various soils I will need.
I was going to do some painting outdide, but Rod thinks it is too hot, so I will do it in the morning.. The kids are going to their other grandma's house tonight. i
I have no idea about when the tomatoes stop bearing heat wise. But I will buy some shredded.straw for mulch to help retain water. All I may plant this year.is.tomatoes. We.shall.see.

Bestofour, I can hear you and Colt partying from here.  Junie, that is a nice size raised bed. I can see many fresh tomatoes in your future...well if you can hide them from the girls. I have set out the first line of clothes on the line this year. I shoveled out a path of the snow so it melted there first.

Thanks about the raised bed. And as long as I have cherry tomatoes, the girls will leave the other tomatoes alone, So I am good. This year there will be minimal gardening. Next year there will be more planted. I will be ready then.

I have a couple of daffodils that bloomed, some are in bud and some are just poking through the ground. I completed the yard work yesterday...I am prepped for planting when the time arrives.

GB was here for the day, I caught him throwing rocks all over the yard that I had just taken DAYS to rake. Why do some kids do the opposite of what they are told???
I told them if a window gets broken from a rock where I cut grass then he's getting a replacement window for his birthday and Christmas from me. He was shocked....then proceeded to look for the rocks.

GB was here for the day, I caught him throwing rocks all over the yard that I had just taken DAYS to rake. Why do some kids do the opposite of what they are told???
I told them if a window gets broken from a rock where I cut grass then he's getting a replacement window for his birthday and Christmas from me. He was shocked....then proceeded to look for the rocks. LOL that was THE most perfect thing to say to GB. I am going to remember THAT comment. You, my dear were inspired. I am so proud ! Good job !

OMG Junie, he was trying to 'test' me all day yesterday. He spent most of the day sulking but I didn't give in once to him....I told him I was getting to be to old for the nonsense that they pull.
Today I have to take an hour or two to look through all the sales and make a large shopping list for tomorrow's outing. I will be doing a lot of 'store hopping' to get the best deals that I can.

Yes, sales and planned trips are the usual but have now become a 'must' with the fact that it is an hour to town and an hour back with gas over $8 a gallon. I wish DH would trade one of the trucks for a car.

As I have heard before...be careful what you wish for...
We got to the edge of the place where the ferry would take us to Kentucky from Missouri.( The ferry was for me, as I love using this ferry...not to mention it cuts off a lot of distance in our travel) Well a guy comes up and tells us that the ferry does not run on Tuesday and Wednesdays now. Mind you there was nothing on the Ferry's FB page and on their internet site is says they are open ,7 days a week with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day.. so we drove forever to go over the one bridge there was in the area, to where we used to go..and to see the Tornado that hit in Tiptonville, Tennessee in December of 2021. (Reel foot Lake area) It flattened the resort there ( really just a fisherman's retreat) and a restaurant that was across the street...the food was simple but very good....Now all gone !
Then a lot of the tops of really old Cypress trees were gone. Good news is many homes that had popped up along the Reel foot Lake we're uneffected. So we came home, and Rod took me out to eat for supper in the evening.
Nothing fancy but hey, I did not have to cook it or clean up after it, so yay ,!

Sounds good Junie. I re-fixed the old strawberry plants but noticed I forgot to buy peat moss to plant my blueberry shrub. I need to start writing my 'need' list on my hand when I go shopping. I am heading out to service the lawn mowers. I am hoping DH sharpens the blades....I just can't get the knack of it.

Junie, I do try to do for myself but sharpening blades or axes has never worked out for me, I have no problem giving up that chore.
I am making my 'fix it' list with what I need for a few small repairs. I just can't get over how the prices of everything has jumped. How can they say inflation is only up 6% when everything has jumped by at least 100% or more????

GB is on his way today....he will stay here today and Monday(holiday). There is a chance of showers today....and thunderstorms for tomorrow. I guess Mother Nature knows my shoulders need a rest.

It is finally raining heavily here right now. It has played at raining off and on since the afternoon. But now I think it is serious. I am glad that I put out a pail to catch rain water... My houseplants will like that.

Sunny, how old is GB these days?
We took our tiller to the fix it shop and it was gonna cost almost as much to fix it as buy a new one so we didn't do it.
We got a pretty good rain today which was very much needed.
Junie, I read back and am glad that you and Rod had a nice day out.

7 already, Sunny. Wow how time does fly !! My triplets will be 7 next February. I have no idea how that happened either..our grands should ask permission to grow up so fast.
Tillers..my dad gave Rod a small tiller, it was wonderful..so Rod immediately got rid of it..he gave it to my DD..and then she moved and so it dud not survive the move. Grr. I hope you have luck, Sunny. I bet you will be able to find one in the fall.....good luck !

I might have to do just that Junie.....everything I dig around outside, my shoulder joint reminds me I am getting older every year. It was a very windy day, GB spent an hour flying a kite and I spent an hour untangling it out of the maple tree.

I do too but the kites now do not fly like the ones from my younger days....those were awesome. I got my pepper, tomato and cuke plants today......and a few petunias.

Rise and shine. Today is the only nice day forecast for the rest of the week, we are going to get heavy rain for days. I will have to put off planting my potatoes..that was the plan for today. I might split up some perennials....the coming rains will do them good to re-establish themselves.

Overnight we only got 3/10 of an inch of rain..but this afternoon and thru into tomorrow "they" have forecast more rain and possible storms.

Yup, I know, it is just strange to get a sunburn here in May. I smothered myself in Aloe vera gel....and I'll use sunscreen my next day out. My nose is going to peel....I can see it already.

Well Aloe Vera is the best. And I found it works best if you apply the Aloe Vera on the same day one gets the sunburn, and before the sun goes down. There is a method where you put baking soda into luke warm water and mix well. Then you put say a wash rag in the water, wring it out mostly and and put it on the.burned area. when the rag is warm, repeat the above procedure..for as long as you have time for...I think we did that to my burn for like 30 to 60 minutes.. I did not blister, I just peeled. My cousin who was with me, did not use this treatment and she blistered.

Junie, I never heard of the baking soda trick, I can imagine that it is soothing though.

Went to the farmers market today and got a loaf of homemade white bread, homemade chocolate raspberry cupcakes, eggs, and green house tomatoes. Came home and had a turkey bacon and tomato sandwich (cherokee purple ) on the white bread. Delicious.

I divided a hosta in between thunderstorms...then planted the four pieces. The rain will do them good.

Sheri, I have a question. Please tell me how to grow and harvest Cherokee Purple tomatoes. I have no idea what to do or how/when to harvest them. I was talked into planting one this year...again....I have yet to eat a Cherokee Purple tomato. And you do talk about them occasionally.

I have not seen such tomato plants here Junie. large tomatoes do not ripen on the vine unless one has a green house. My mother called, she needs me to go to Walmart with her....this will be a LONG day.

Cherokee Purple tomatoes are an heirloom tomato and are supposed to taste wonderful.
