Happy Groundhog Day!

Well, they shut down the whole province due to the storm...we are supposed to get almost two feet with heavy winds. That's what we get for boasting about our milder Winter. lol

DH is dreading the work ahead because people will not stay home and they will be dodging little cars stuck in snow drifts while trying to clear the roads.

I am so glad I do not have to deal with driving in the snow. I am so glad your province closed up for it.
What is everyone doing today?

LOL..I was sleeping. I could not sleep last night..then my DD had me awake at 6:30 to run an errand. I have just had lunch and I think I am up for the day now.

I might also do a load of laundry in a bit. It seems there is always laundry to do...

Thanks Sunny. I will tell DH you said so.

We are having taco crunch tonight....you use corn chips on a plate instead of a taco shell. Then you layer the rest of the ingredients. Kinda like a taco salad but again..no shell, just corn chips. I like it because I can prepare the ingredients ahead of time. So it " seems" like less work.

Crazy 8's is fun. Of course my last daughter insists it was a rip off of Uno. I have told her Crazy 8's was first but...

I have never played Uno before Tina but I have seen the cards for it.

Your taco crunch sounds good Junie. I like mine with sour cream as well...it gives a tartness to the flavor.

Schools are closed for the second day in a row, the roads are terrible...and it is still snowing.

Uno is Crazy 8's without the blasphemous poker cards. About 10 X more expensive. I love games.

I do not think I have ever played crazy 8's. But I have played Uno. That was fun.

When I think ahead to buy sour cream, we have that with out taco crunch as well. I also offer up jared salsa if I have it. Rod got the salsa last night.

I need to go wash my hair then get something out for supper. That should have been done already.

Uno has added cards that do other things like switch direction and such, but the basic premise is the same.
I want my hair washed too. But maybe I ought to cut it first.

I think I need to wash my hair again. That or my sinuses are still messed up. The news said it has not been cold enough long enough to freeze out the bugs, so I am assuming the same is true for allergies ??

Well, I think we have different climates from there to here, Carol. My deciduous plants and trees are already budding up so allergies are right behind them There are fresh grasses growing in the fields. Hay fever is here.

Yes you are right, Tina.
I am hoping that in a few years my body will be built up against what I can only assume is different types of allergens. I had some trouble back in IL but not like here and not so late into the winter.

I was so sick from stuffed sinuses that Rod went out and got take out for our supper.
He wanted pizza so that is what we had.

We used to always have a humidifier back out at the farm... But we have not since. Thanks for the reminder. All day I have had a bad headache..even with tylenol. I was on my way to bed and we got a phone call. Well, now I am wide awake. Good news is I think the headache is finally going away.

I have a huge stockpot that I keep on simmer on the back of my stove all day and all night. It adds moisture to our dry air in the winter and some warmth to the center of my house. I take out what I need to make coffee or boil water for pasta or something. And add more each time. But it's not something I would recommend for an electric stove.
Sweet dreams all.

I keep an old steel kettle on our woodstove for moisture as well Tina, we also have a cold air humidifier for GG when she is under the weather. They work wonderfully.

I hope you feel better today Junie.

They announced the U.K. variant has officially been documented in our province...the nursing homes are being hit hard.

I used to have a cold air humid for Illnesses. I do not think it made our last move. We have a little gas stove for use on the sunroom that I could put a pot of water on for humidity..but if we even have the pilot light lit, we get condensation on the windows thst runs down on my woodwork. I was spending all of my time wiping that stuff down so the wood would not rot. So we do not use that room in the winter now, If ever the girls are here they wear jackets out there to play.

I do not feel tired this morning Sunny. And thankfully I do not have any headache. I guess I will resume the flonase. Good news ( for allergies and such) is it will be in the teens or colder for a week or so beginning the end of the week. Or so they say.

The roads were slippery this morning so I put off going for groceries once again...I did shovel the house roof though. I have to tackle the shed roof this afternoon....it is a milder Winter but the big storms seem to come fast and furious.

Good morning.

Sorry for the slippery roads, Sunny. I am sure it is nice to have a clean roof. Please be careful.

I am soon to be out of meat here..and will need to go to the meat market. However I may put off doing a Wal-Mart order for a bit.

Roofs are clean. I'll go get a few groceries at the local store when DH gets home from work. It costs more $$ to go to the local store but is safer Covid-wise(I go right before the store closes so there are no people in it).

Junie do you go to a meat market rather than the grocery store for your meat? The meat markets around here are so much more expensive than the grocery store that I don't go often. There's one about a mile from me.

Yes I do, Sheri first I began because they are my SIL's relatives. Then I found our back yards touch in the corner. Then there is the fact that I know their meat is fresh as it is always frozen, even the cheese. It may be a bit higher but like today..their pork steaks were $1.99 a pound. That price is hard to beat. I buy around $80 to $100 dollars worth. Then I am done for awhile. I got used to that convenience real quickly.

Bestofour, our meat shop is cheaper and fresher than a grocery store as well...because they buy whole animals to process themselves. It is the freshest meat that one can get, but it is an hour drive away.

I got a weeks worth of groceries. The prices keep getting higher and the amount of food gets smaller. Even the boxes of items have less in them...it is crazy. I don't know how people can afford to shop at that certain grocery store only.

I'm not sure how anyone does it, Sunny. I just know how I did things during the hard times in my life. Worked harder was one thing. Made do was another. Did without came in for a showing. And why I made a habit of collecting cookbooks and hints from the generations of pioneers before me.

That's what I mean Tina. I shop frugally, make and bake all the meals, grow my own for what I can preserve...even have most of my own meat yet it is still a shock for the price of staples at the store. How do people who don't do such even afford to buy their groceries? I'd be scared to see their receipts.

I don't do that anymore, doing all for myself. And the receipts are scary. I share the grocery budget with two others and that's how we get along.
