Sorry for the wind, Sunny.

It is sunny here but I have no idea of the temperature outside.

Glad about Tina's rain too. It was sunny but windy and cool here. I think we're getting rain the rest of the week.

Someone always gives Johnny a spiral ham right before Christmas but this year, with only my mother coming for dinner, I had a lot left. Tonight I made lentil and ham stew and boy is it gooooood. I froze the rest of the ham.

The back of my hair is cut crooked and it's driving me nuts. Why can't anyone cut my hair and make it lay right?

Glad you found something yummy to do with left over ham, Sheri. Do you make ham and beans ??.

I hate when a hairdresser chops a person's hair... but hey, look at the positive side:
1) you got to go out and get your hair done
2) she messed up the back..at least you do not have to look at the mistake every time you comb your hair
3) one good thing about hair..it always grows back !

Good morning. Well, my plans have changed. Or may have changed. Tangela may have covid. And/or her Dad. They plan on getting tested today. I'm hoping that it is not the virus. I feel so guilty now.

Tina...

Oh my hope it's not Covid too.. prayers, so far we have been pretty lucky family wise,,, one grand nephew and one grandson who recovered ok... I am in for the duration ... don't know when they will have inoculations here but won't be first in line either... don't quite trust how fast they came up with it....

We are having a cool snap here too... 46* here for the high... doing laundry and may take down holiday stuff,, depends on energy level staying ok...

Did some work on our next yrs budget... so used to hubby picking up free calendars from insurance co.. I didn't realize he hasn't been there (thanks covid) guess will have to pick up one on next wallyworld run he makes... do have my desk one ,, keep track of when I send bills on that one...

Well guess laundry is calling and beds to make... always something to stay busy with ... stay well all and take care..

So, Tangela just felt like she had a cold, But her dad had a fever with chills and body aches and couldn't taste his dinner last night. She called his Dr. and he said to take him in to get him tested at the fair grounds. Dad did not want to wait in line so they aren't going. He really is much better today and she is as well except for lack of sleep. So I guess that will be it unless someone takes a turn for the worse.
Our hospitals are full so they are just sending people home with it anyway. If you have to call an ambulance you have to wait until one is free and there can be a several hour wait in the ambulance to get into the Dr's at emergency areas. There is not much they can do.

Thanks, Tina. We had a good time Now today Rod was worried about being around Brian. He goes to work sparingly, but yesterday he was late coming as his employers chose yesterday to have him come in for his Covid shot. And the way they did it he was in several areas of the hospitsl. But oh well, it is done, and another Christmas is in the books.

Tina,.I hope all is well for Tangela and her dad.

I hope all is right too. So I texted T today and waiting on an answer. I did't want to call her because she was up all the night before with her dad.
A funny thing. I just typed the prior sentence and she texted me back. It's definitely covid. She can't smell or taste anything No fever though.
Happy Eve of the New Year.

My sister, who works at the VA labs in West VA, thought she had Covid again but tested herself and she doesn't. She tested herself for the flu too and it was also negative. Guess she's just got a cold. Her symptoms are cough, stuffy head, headache, and feels generally bad. She did have it early on and it's been long enough that she could have had it again but she's negative. She feels worse with this cold than she did when she was diagnosed with Covid.

It's Happy New Year time.

Oh my, Sheri !! But at least your sister does not have Covid now.

It is 12:40 am here..so it is 2021 in S. Missouri. Thing is this area only broadcasts from the east coast. So I didnt get to see the new year in at midnight but at 11 pm..complete bummer.

Happy New Year everyone. May 2021 be a much better year for us all than 2020 was.

Happy New Year!

I was in bed after 10 pm so I didn't watch any of the fireworks or festivities on television.

May this year bring health and happiness to everyone.....and an end to Covid. kissie

Happy New Year's Eve to all. kissie
I live right next to Los Angeles county where they are rationing care. Ambulances are in short supply because most are parked outside of emergency rooms with patients waiting to be seen,... for hours. All of our hospitals have tent rooms for the ones that don't make it inside. And refrigerator trailers for the stored bodies. Our healthcare workers and doctors are stretched to the max. No one is there to take names except when someone is admitted or dies. We've lost a 9/11 worth of people most days, each day, for a month or better.
One death is a tragedy. A million deaths is a statistic. The numbers mean more than the names to most people.

Happy New Year to all.

Don't know how happy it will really be with all the deaths... even in our little town it's bad...usually just see the news highlights and that is enough... just so sad and upsetting .... can't handle it most days...

On a lighter note I just spent and hour and a half cleaning up my desk for the new year... discovered I don't have a wall calendar for next yr... never went in to ins agents to pay so didn't get one...so printed one out .. told hubby next time he is out to pick one up... or go by ins co and see if they have free ones...... I have more crap to throw away then to keep... will start getting tax stuff soon and even made a folder for it... being bored has an advantage or two I guess...LOL!

Tina I hope they can get tested... but have a feeling not to many can in the hard hit areas... sure will be glad when the inoculation is close to us but won't be traveling to get it unless we have to.. don't want to be first in line either... let a few thousand get it with no really bad side effects....

Well need to get busy and see if any bills need paying yet.. most are auto now but few I pay myself....

Stay well all and safe...

Nana

No testing here that is available without standing in line. If they had a drive through testing, that is different. But Tangela's dad has some heavy duty arthritis and standing or walking far is out of the question for him. He has had knee replacement already and his hips are killing him. I have a wheelchair they could use and they might eventually.
And no testing until Monday. Most of the labs have this long weekend off. And well deserved time off it is. They've been working 12 hour days for months.

Oh my, how.sad..drive thru testing would be ever so much easier and safer for all as well.

I think I will be wishing it was 2022 already. Perhaps we will be closer to be back to "normal" by then.

We met Ginger half way and brought Colt home with us until Monday. I wanted him to come yesterday but he had some partying to do. This is one busy boy. It's been pouring rain most of the day and the fog is so thick it's awful out there. I remember the time we were lacking for rain.

Good morning. Tangela says they have a walk-in appointment on Monday. So far her dad is sicker than she is. But is maintaining good blood oxygen. We had a long conversation last night. She finally ate last night and she was sure it was good even though she couldn't taste or smell it. What a way to diet.

My niece had covid a few months ago..she was not bad sick, and worked from home the whole time she was sick. . She said since she could not taste or smell, she ate healthy the entire time she was sick. May I add that this girl does not have an ounce of fat in the first place ?? But like you said of Tangela, she took advantage of the situation.

Good afternoon. We will take down the outside nativity when we take down the inside tree. (Jan 6 or 7). I hope the weather here cooperates with that plan.

Good idea to do yours before the storm hits, Sunny.

You are out of luck girls, it was bread, rolls, brown sugar pie and chocolate chip cookies.

I have to go get groceries tomorrow and I just found out that there is no more curb side pick ups at both grocery stores anymore. We are being forced to go in and shop personally. I'd have to drive over an hour each way to get curbside now.

Sunny, the curbside at some restaurants has gone away here too. I can't figure it out. We've had curbside grocery stores for a few years so I don't think that's gonna change but I can't understand the restaurants that don't have a drive through window doing away with curbside.

I'm always amazed at how much you bake.

Well, to hear curbside is going away is scary. That upsets me. But I hope that the Wal-Mart here will keep it up. I guess I could go i to stores the moment they opened up if I had to.I

Well Tina,.I did not get a delivery either. Sometimes life is no fun, huh ???

Both Tangela and her dad are better today. Just a wee bit better. But that is much better than worse so I'll take it. They got tested today and the results should be here in 3-5 days. But covid positive will be no surprise. I am positive they have it.
Not sure why I didn't post this morning though.
I am going to wear N95 masks when I go out from now on. It is what is recommended for the Covid strain coming out of the UK. So...

If you think that is best, Tina..I will have to look into the cost of the N95 masks.

So glad to hear Tangela and her dad are feeling better as well.

It is not known to be worse than the previous covid in death rates or how ill it makes people. But it is supposed to be about 70% more communicable. I think it's being called E-117, so far. The covid out of South Africa may be the same or a different variation. They think the vaccine will also work for these variants. The E-117 was found in several states now including mine.
I am going to bed soon. Sweet dreams all.

And it is called B.1.1.7. I had the number right but not the letter. Yes, it is more prevalent than previously thought. But they figure the vaccine will still be advantageous.
Corona viruses have been around awhile. And corona caused colds have made the rounds. They were already working on vaccines way before the variant cov-sars-2 popped up. That's primarily why we have the vaccines so quickly. They were already working on the virus type for years. All they needed was the DNA sequence and they were off and running.
I believe in these vaccines more than any others since Salk's polio. And a couple from Turkey needs next year's Nobel prize in medicine. They were the beginning of the whole way of altering the DNA for making vaccines. When they immigrated to Germany they began gaining notice with their work. And people turned to their work after covid started gaining ground and they stepped up. They basically had the vaccine on paper last January and it only needed put together in real life.
There are scientist working on things all the time. And I bless them. There is so much being uncovered by climate change and not all of it is beneficial to human life.

I am so glad that I got to go stock up on Monday before the lockdown. I am wondering if we will get our 'curbside pickup' at the grocery stores again....hopefully. I went into the local grocery because I had to, the store was nearly bare. Between what is not available anymore and what is only being delivered sparingly....it was shocking.

The sad part is seeing overripe and bad produce being thrown out because no one can afford to buy it, it makes no sense to me. It makes me so mad and frustrated. I'd love to have that $7 lettuce but it is out of my budget....yet, it gets thrown in the dumpster.

That bothers me, too, Sunny. Does Canada have food lines for the unemployed? It's sad to see people waiting for hours to get a few days of food.

Tina, there is a food bank for lower income families. They can go once a month for about $75 worth of food, staples like bread, peanut butter/jam, crackers, pasta, pasta sauces, etc... There is no fresh fruit, veggies, meat or dairy though. In the bigger cities, they can go once a week for lesser amounts and they can get meat and fresh items there.

We got more freezing rain last night, what a strange Winter.

I'd love fresh greens right now. Mind you, I am thankful for my bag of apples and bananas this week....many are not so lucky. thumbup

Thank you for answering me. Sunny. What I actually meant was if your food banks, etc., are over run with those in need right now? Is unemployment affecting things poorly in your country?

It is nice to be able to get fresh produce and the last few weeks there were mountain apples. The apples may be gone by now but I can't tell the difference in store bought and mountain grown apples anyway.

Our church has a food bank.

I participated in local food banks in pre-pandemic times. Now I just have Tangela pick up a donation card at the grocery store.
Sweet dreams all.

There is a food bank in the town next to us. We donate money to them often. It seems they would rather have money so they can buy what is lacking in their stores.i

Goodnight to all. Sleep well.

The food banks are doing o.k. from what the news is stating, and in all honesty we hear no different on the unemployment issue. Income assistance and the Covid Unemployment Benefit for the unemployed pays more than when people are working for most. My daughter makes less money working than if not....and she loses her health benefits for not being on 'Welfare'. It is a strange system that we have.

Bestofour, we donate to the church as well, they make sure that what is donated goes to those really in need....not the scammers. Our food bank system is the worst run of any organization around.

Any word on Tangela and her dad?

Tangela is doing well. Her dad appears to be recovering as well. and as she began symptoms the day after her delivery to us we've been quarantining too. But it has been 11 days w/o anything for us so I'm feeling hopeful.

Yes, I am sure we are all wondering how they are doing, Tina. I hope they are well.

Got more of my Christmas put away today. And some small shipping boxes put away in Rubbermaid containers as well. Then I set out the last of the boxes I had for shipping that I want discarded.

We have been exposed. That calls for couple weeks of staying home. Mind you, we haven't gone out for months but...

Yes, staying home when it is your choice is far different than having to stay home. I hope the time passes uneventfully and quickly.

Good morning. Just got back from my curbside pickup at Wal-Mart. I already have a list started with the things I forgot to order. This not doing my own shopping, is a pain. If I were in the store I would have seen things and remembered I needed them. But hey, in these times we all have to do what we have to do, huh ???

So happy...there is a good witch marathon on today.....part of all the episodes are on today, and the. rest will be on next Saturday.

Well, Tangela is pretty careful. Wears masks and such while out and about. When she brings the stuff to the house she calls from outside and Jonni and Ted go to get it out of her trunk. I give her money at arms length, masks on. She figures her dad was the culprit in their infection. His symptoms are a day or two ahead of hers. And he has not been so careful with his masks as she.
They have found a new variant in the US now. We lost over 4,000 people in one day a couple days ago. We're still losing over the amount of deaths on 9/11 daily. They need a better way to get the vaccines rolled out. I remember the vaccines for polio being brought to schools by the army. It seemed like they were there every month. My mom breathed a lot easier when we had them.

Yes, I remember getting vaccinated that was a sigh of relief for a lot of mothers I am sure.

That is the thing about this virus...it spreads some easier than a lot of the viruses. I thought Tangela had been extra careful, and so I wondered. Thanks for explaining. I hope they are on the mend ?

Yes the new variant has me concerned. And my grands are concerned about getting or not getting, the vaccine, dont know which, but they all have been asking if they too will be vaccinated, as they understand they got the flu vaccinaton and why.....

I am happy to say that the daily covid count has been going slightly down in this area. I do hope the trend continues.

Going down is good, Carol. California is still a hotspot. Our numbers look bad and they are. But we have a population of 40 million people. That is more than all of Canada.

That really puts things in perspective Tina, I did not know the population for Cali. That is mind boggling.

Junie, I forgot things even when we were able to go instore.

I forget even when I go into the stores too, Sunny. But I get frustrated. See, with our smaller trunk, I limit my list to a certain amount..I would not do that if I were doing my own shopping.

I was going to buy 2 Corel ( spelled wrong I know) ramekins tonight. One was $6.50..but 2 were $26.00......not buying anything at all from that site.

Goodnight..sweet dreams.

Junie, Walmart sells Corelle items online.

We have been fixing up the interior of our barn a bit, trying to renovate with old boards and such is taking us longer than planned. Oh well, we can't afford to buy new lumber so at least it will get done in time.

I miss some people around here. We had a friend who had a concrete company. He did big jobs and had a lot of lumber left over from the framing needed for it. He would send a dump truck over full of lumber to the ranch to be used however we wanted. All it took was pulling nails and occasionally knocking cement off a bit. John did that and that built the treehouse.
That friend died of cancer soon after John did. But John was good having friends like that. You reminded me talking about lumber, Sunny.

I will look online at Wal-Mart, thanks.

That is great about the barn. I am guessing you are modifying the barn since the horses are gone ?I

Yes Junie, we dismantled the horse stalls and made a birthing room for the cows.

Tina, spare lumber is a true gift.
