My extra string of good weather is coming to a close. There is some sleet in the surrounding area...We will get the colder weather from it, but I hope the sleet stays away. I will be happy to go the whole winter w/o seeing ice in any form. Hey, I can hope !

Sorry for the sleet. We can't function in ice around here. Southerners need to stay home at the first sign of ice. We've been at Ginger's and her yard is full of butterflies because all her flowers are blooming. I didn't see any bees but the butterflies are amazing. I have some flowers blooming but haven't seen a butterfly for at least a month. Where do they go in the winter anyway? Her little area has a wonderful bakery and a wonderful donut shop. Reasonably priced on everything. It's been pouring rain here most of the day and I think it's gonna rain for the rest of the week. Darbi came home for Thanksgiving and got a message that she's a virus contact, so she had to stay in her room for 2 days, then go get tested, came back negative, so she can come out of her room but can't go back to school since they get out December 8th anyway. I don't understand all the rules. I guess she can still convert to positive but she was told she doesn't have to quarantine anymore so I don't understand why she can't go back to school.

There have been 2 adult cases at Ginger's school and they both recovered without being hospitalized. The young in shape man was sicker longer than the overweight out of shape woman. Sounds backward doesn't it. Or maybe the man just complained louder. Who knows. Ginger says the man says it felt like an awful flu and the lady said it was like having any virus for a few days and she used her 2 weeks of quarantine to decorate and shop online for Christmas.

Hello Sheri. Yes, those Covid rules do sound a bit confusing. About the 2 people....I guess it depends on how long you were exposed to the virus and how strong your immune system is, huh ?? This virus seems to hit people so differently.

Our weather is all messed up..at least I think so, but really I thought the south did not have to deal with ice much at all. Am I right ???

Yay for good and reasonably priced bakeries and donut shops !

Aren't you only a couple hundred miles south of where you lived before, Carol? That's not so much to alter the climate that much.
Sweet dreams all.

Good morning !
Yes Tina, we are just over 150 miles south from where we were. And it takes between 2 and 2-1/2 hours to drive home.....but the heat down here is much harsher than at home....So far that is the main difference that I have found.

We are 212 miles from Ginger and our temperatures vary 10° sometimes. It's so much hotter in the summer at her house and the flying bugs are soooo much worse at her house. We are 416 miles from my sister in West Virginia and our summer time weather mimics her weather more often than Ginger's - THANK GOODNESS - because I couldn't stand 10 more degrees. I do NOT like the heat. Until my sisters hard winter sets in we're pretty much the same. Once the snow visits her everything changes.

We do get snow once in a while and we can't drive in that either. We get ice more than snow. It seems if our temps get below 32° it's always raining and it's always sleet. And its always a catastrophe because we're not prepared. We get iced in a couple of times a winter.

I love watching the show Hoarders.

Don't feel bad..I cannot drive well in ice or snow either, Sheri. I think it is good to know your limitations. I know mine.

I am in heaven. I am eating MY fried green tomatoes for my lunch !! Color me happy !..and I will get another meal too.. But then that will be the end of home grown tomatoes for the year.

Yep, you got it...now to win the lottery...I

I just went out and got the last green tomatoes off of my mostly froze out lone tomato plant. (There were still unfrozen leaves on a potion of the plant) I will be getting another patio tomato pant again next year for sure. This one survived until last night.

Enjoy the last of your tomatoes Junie.

It has been raining all day, there is not a flake of snow to be found anywhere on the ground. We are under rainfall advisories for three days in a row. touched

I am cooking my meat for the annual meat pie making, it was a good day to do it because I can open all the windows to leave the steam out with this mild weather.

junie, that's great about your tomatoes. I think if I hadn't pulled mine up they would have made it until tonight when it's supposed to get below freezing. I have been able to get them at the farmers market though. Nothing like fresh tomatoes.

Sunny, tell me again what a meat pie is? Meat in a crust? I like meat and I like crust soooo when you when we come for the snow ride, fix those for us. What do you consider mild weather?

Went to a funeral today. Nothing to do with covid. We have another funeral Thursday. This one won't be outside and they are allowing 50 people, so we are walking in, signing the book, and walking right back out. I imagine everyone will be wearing a mask but we're not taking any chances.

Meat pie is shredded beef and pork that has been slow cooked, onions and seasonings added then put in a pie crust and baked. It is a holiday treat here. Mild weather is 54*F when it supposed to be around 10*F this time of year, it is very strange.

It is a good day here so far Tina, the pies have been all finished and put in the freezer and the dishes are all washed and put away.

How many pies do you cook, Sunny? How big are they? I've always wondered. Meat pies that I've had were always small individual sized. But I've seen some in family size.

And you freeze them to eat whenever you decide to eat one? I would love them.

Every since I said I was going to cover my window boxes when it's cold to see if I can keep them through the winters it's been below freezing every night. Getting tired of doing it already.

Sheri--sorry about the window boxes..perhaps you should put on out on the closed in porch (you have one right?) that way it would be easier to cover on the coldest nights..

Hi all,
I guess we all have been busy.... my house is almost done being decorated for the holidays....hubby got me two more of the bigger houses for my village scene... for got he would need more electric strips for the lights so went out for them,,, he is back so it will be back to wiring it all up now... then I get to add the people and trees etc... hopefully it will turn out good.. will take a pic...

I came in my ofc to check the bank and the site is down... pain in the tookus... good thing most of the bills are on auto pay, but would like to see it anyway... will check later if my phone app works...

One of my grands , he's 19 had the covid... works at Target and someone who knew they were sick came to work... so he got it from him,,, he is ok now,, dd kept him in his room and disinfected his bathroom every time he used it.. his bro had to use the one in the parents room for the duration,,, do now understand the people who don't believe it...sure hope the rest don't get it... dd and two of the boys work in the grocery.. even with cleaning it's scary.... but people have to eat...

Well off to finish decorating and then clean up the house mess from decorating, have boxes in my office to hold the stuff we took down to put Christmas up... keeping door closed for the duration...

Have a good day all and stay well.

Nana

Decorating DOES make a mess. But the end result is lovely.

I'm such a dumbo. It occurred to me last night that chicken pot pies are meat pies and I can buy those at the store. Not as good as Sunny's homemade but better than nothing and the crust is pretty good.

Junie wonder why you can't sleep. Wonder if warm milk really works.

A lot of people have sleep issues these days. It is such different times dealing with this pandemic and such. When I start getting messed up in my sleep patterns, I work really hard at curing that.

Sheri..The main reason that I cannot sleep is that when the kids were growing up, I did mist of my scrubbing and such late at night, so I would not be interrupted......and then it became a habit..
I do the largest part of my physical work at home here after Rod and has gone to sleep....so I begin after 8:30 or so. As I age it does not serve me well to get all busy and then expect to be able to go to sleep after several hours of work one would do during the day. Not complaining, just explaining.

I remember 18 year old Tangela calling from home while I was at work to tell me she wanted to mop the kitchen. I was thrilled and began telling her where the gear was. She said she had that but she didn't know how to use it. I realized I had always done it at night or when she was gone to school. She'd never seen me do it.
Funny memories.

We are going for our tree today, we aren't able to cut our own anymore but the place that has them has a parking lot set up like a forest. You pay for a ticket(a tree) then you get 5 minutes to walk around to pick one out. I am so glad that they came up with a good way to social distance to at least get some fun in the process. Then we'll take the kids to a drive thru bakery for a special treat.

My mother used to do all her cleaning at night, my father worked the night shift. I certainly learned the way of it all though at my grandmother's, she never stopped all day with her brood of kids, grandkids still living there back and forth.

Good morning. I think we learned a lot from our grandmothers if we had them. There is so much more I'd like to learn now that they are all gone.

You are SO right, Tina. I so wish I could ask my grandmother and for that matter my MIL many things yet today. I used to call her with what I termed stupid Daughter-in-law questions. She taught me a lot. It was free to call her and it cost money to call my mom. So most of the times I called her. Emily still texts me with questions. It is nice to get those questions. Makes me smile.

Have fun at the tree p!ace, Sunny. You get a treat too, right ???

5 minutes to find a tree. I don't know that I could do that. Ginger took the first one she saw and it's beautiful. Shelley bought the first wedding dress she tried on. Obviously they don't take after me.

I didn't know either of my grandmothers but I did learn a lot from my mother and mil. Ginger called me last week to ask how long to microwave a potato for a baked potato. It made me laugh because she cooks all sorts of exotic dishes and uses all sorts of spices but had a question about a plain potato.

It's noon and I've been pretty much worthless this morning. Gotta get going.

Sheri, Hi !!

You should have told her what my mom always to!d us kids. " you cook it 'til it's done "!!.

We 3 still laugh at her about that !

5 minutes to pick out a tree..I agree, that is not very long. But I will say, when we were kids, there was only about 10 or 15 to pick from so it did not take long. Mind you?, mom did the picking and we kids were just happy to have a tree. If there was a ugly part, it was put to the back so we would not notice it.

Finally got motivated, went to the grocery store, library, filled up my car with gas, fried chicken, made a salad, baked potatoes, AND a pumpkin pie. So good. Now to get motivated to clean the kitchen.

I'll be over in a few, Sheri, I love fried chicken. And oh, you need to save me some pie as well!
Now I feel like a slacker. We had burgers, tater tots and green beans.

We got our tree. The kids argued about the first tree they seen but it was 12 ft so I had to explain that it was too big. They had the 12-14 ft ones in the front parking lot, 10-12's in the middle and the 8-10's in the back, 6-8's on one side and the 4-6's on the other. They made it easy for the adults but kids want the biggest one they see lol

5 minutes wasn't long but it was so nice not to have to worry about distancing oneself or the kids from others. We wore masks and walked around freely for those 5 minutes.

Then we got cookies, donut bites, muffins and milk and cappuccino from the bakey....it was a fun trip, with a little bit of normal.

Good morning ! Well, Sunny..even kids arguing is a bit of normal. So happy the trees were divided by size. That did make it a lot easier to accomplish in the allocated time, I am sure. Sorry they began with the larger trees. So is the tree decorated yet ???

Pics are here. Yes, they put the biggest trees in the front to make it easier to carry them to the vehicles.....I am sure there were a few kids wanting the ones they could not have. lol

Thanks all, they sure had fun decorating....and I only had to move a few around because they couldn't reach the very top.

My mild weather and green grass has gone through the night, we are in the middle of a Nor'Easter at the moment......it is horrid out there. The power has already flickered twice. Oh well, when it is done....outdoors will certainly look like a Christmas card tomorrow. lol

Tina, You'd think I'd learn my lesson after doing 3 times already over the years. My husband is ready to throw the table and chair set outside....we just can't keep it tightened no matter what.

Junie, There will be a new set in the horizon if I find a good deal on Kijiji/resell site...the old style kind that has high back, good chairs. These new table sets are just thrown together(as seems to be all furniture these days). I even used Gorilla glue/screws on them and still, it seems that the pegs aren't even long enough to fit into the holes that were made for the legs.

My leg is aching today.

It is still snowing, what a storm. The bus's are running an hour late this morning because of the roads.

Good morning ! Sadly, I have been up for an hour.
It is going to be a long day.
Yay for new, sturdy table & chair set. I wish you luck. Be patient, THE set will show itself, even if you have to wait until spring. I have found when people are moving they tend to sell the nicest things just to avoid moving them.I

Today is order groceries day....Yesterday I ordered non perishables to be delivered to the house. Now today it is food ordering.

I'll be patient...and yes, I can see many going for sale in the new year if people bought new for Christmas.

It is 10 am and every school bus is either in a ditch or stuck in a drift...and they still called leaving a message to be patient and wait for a bus because schools were still open. touched Who'd send a kid to school in this weather????

Good afternoon. I've been hung up getting a computer thing fixed this morning. Not general computer but problems with one site I use.
It's pretty much fixed now.
I'm thinking I wouldn't send my kids on a bus either, Sunny. Not in those conditions.

good afternoon.

I agree...it is not the risk or the worry to send any child out in a bus in bad weather such as you are having.

Good morning. Glad the sun is shining, Sunny. Sun does sparkle ❇ on a new snow.

Today we are going to pick up our grocery order from Wal-Mart. And then Carol will begin making cookies.

Evening all,

Just finished my bill doing .. balanced the checkbook.. gotta remember I can't subtract well so better use the calculator... least I figured it out and now it balances...LOL!

Won't tell you all it was 75 today and beautiful... supposed to rain tonit though ... if that makes it easier... snowing in Denver so glad we are here... my daughter's second oldest had the covid... he is ok now but she waited to tell us till he was over the worst, so glad I probably would have worried myself sick.... they all had to quarantine , so grateful he is ok... got it from someone he worked with that knew he was sick but went to work anyway... he works at target now... they started taking temps when they come in now... her store has been doing that since the beginning...
Well have to go and finish up dinner making... hubby grilled... have a good evening all.... stay well !
Nana

I'm glad that your family is doing well, Sherri. That is awesome news.
How did you break a broom, Sunny? I have broken many tools, shovels, rakes, etc. But I have only worn out brooms. They start out fresh and new, in a few years I get a new one and the old is relegated to the brick walkway outside.
What kind of cookies did you bake us today, Carol? I don't want to eat them, just smell them.

Tina, the death count rises daily....it is devastating.

My broom has a plastic handle, it broke where the handle goes into the broom head. It was loose since I bought it....I guess it was a defect. I put my wooden painting handle in it for now.

It snowed a bit through the night....just enough to make the roads slippery.

I am glad that your grandson is o.k. Nana.

I am waiting until Rod has to get a smart phone..( I believe he has to stop using his regular phone next fall) .He is on his tablet a lot in a day..well, I am too, but he says when he gets a smart phone he does not need a tablet...well IMO you can see and do a small amount on your phone..then you see more and can manage to do more on a tablet...and then you can see the most and work the best on a computer....Here is gonna be a fun place to be (not) next fall.

Good Afternnon all,

Slept in today -- until 5 am .... could not go back to sleep for anything so will hopefully be an early night for me.... hubby went to store to stock up some stuff we are almost out of and put gas in one of the vehicles... mostly he is bored... staying in is really hard on him... he is much more social than I am...

My goal for today is to send off the gift cards to the kids and kidlets.. did do my pick up and dust what I can around the house...

Have a good day all, stay well.
Nana

Ah that is why 2 of my frozen veggies were " out of stock" after ordered them as in stock, huh ??
But they were called " out if stock" the day we picked up my order....

I have not used hardly any of my canned.goodsThat I bought in the spring...I figure better to have it on hand than to go hungry. My plan is to only use it if I have no choice if we want to eat.. Or if life goes back to some semblance of normal. Not to worry, I am watching the expiration dates.

Yes Tina....and the prices of 'in stock' are climbing crazily. They were behind with my orders today...it made for a full day of waiting around to get things. I wish there was one store to get it all but with the prices I have to make a few smaller orders at different stores and try arrange them a half hour apart for pick up.....it certainly didn't work out today.

I was just reading the solar light topic and wondering whatever happened to Shirley and angleblossom.

Thank you for the card Junie. It's so pretty and made my day.

I went to the post office today to get stamps and the line was out the door so I didn't get any.

We put up our outside lights this afternoon. I love Christmas lights.

I am sorry, Sunny. I don't shop so I don't see the prices. But I know everything is going up. I just hope the extra money is going into the workers pockets. I wish I could do so much more for them.

Yes I know things are going up...and it is depressing. The amount I spend is one thing..but since I only order every 3 to 4 weeks it looks even worse than it would. I agree with one of Rod's friends who said "This Covid crap is getting old. Good riddance to 2020.

Bestofour, I wonder about our 'lost' forum friends as well. Hope you get your stamps soon.

Tina, I shop the weekly flyers and stock up on what I can, turkeys are regular $4.50 a pound here.....I had to wait an hour yesterday to get one on sale half price. I used my Air Mile points at a certain store for it, so it only cost me $3.45 out of pocket. They were so behind on curbside orders that what should have been a three hour trip was over five hours.

Junie, I agree I hope 2021 is better for everyone.

I think it will be over six months until we're back to near normal. In the news they said even Canada wouldn't finish their vaccine rollout until next fall. And then they don't know how long it will last. Will it be a yearly thing like the flu shot?

Well yes didn't Fauchi say it would be like fall before we all had a chance at getting the vaccine ?? and I think since this is a virus, we will likely need to get vaccinated yearly but oh well, so we do.....

I honestly don't know if we will ever see 'normal' again.

We are supposed to get a bad storm tonight into tomorrow so if you don't hear from me it will be a 'power outage' thing.

Stay safe, Sunny.
Yes, I think we will have to find a new normal when this shakes out.

The only missing forum friend I know about is Dodge. She and I are occasionally in contact with one another. She is doing well. She even sent me some of her wavy hostas like I had in Illinois.

I talked to dodge by phone not too long ago. Wish she'd sign in once in a while.

I did get my stamps. Johnny went to the UPS store and went right in and got them.
