Happy Thanksgiving kissie

I'm not sure what today holds but we are under a freezing rain warning for this afternoon.....we are getting such mild temps this November.

Good morning. We started of this month with a splash of rain and that gave me high hopes for more. But it has been bone dry the rest of the month and nothing in the foreseeable future.
I am very thankful for all of you, my not-so-imaginary-friends.

Aw Tina kissie That is so kind to say.

I just got back from my grocery pick up....and the bananas are green this time around. It is the cheapest fruit that we can buy here so I always try to keep it stocked. It's not my Thanksgiving but I am still thankful for fresh fruit today(clementines, apples and bananas).....and my DH will be thankful that they had his favorite mixed Christmas candy as well. (I told them as soon as it came in to put away three bags for me) lol

So, every time someone mentions the lack of fruits and veggies in winter, I go back, mentally, to our before times. The pioneers right through the more recent times like my grandmothers. The pioneers went out and harvested everything they could. And spent copious time preserving it all for winter. Following that is trains and truck transport all of our needs all over the place, but the smart people still preserved as much as possible for their winter needs. Canned goods came about and we sacrificed some nutrition and money for cheap convenience and time. Refrigerators in homes, bread and milk deliveries on your doorstep. I love historical stories.
Have a happy Thanksgiving all.

So true Tina, I preserve what I can as well but I still crave fresh fruit. I remember my grandmother said that in her day that they'd give kids tea brewed from rose hips in Winter....to keep rickets away. She said that canned apples were a staple as their only fruit in Winter besides the bottle of jam for bread.

Hello.

Yes ladies you are right..my mom " canned" tomatoes, tomato juice, beets, green beans, various pickles, and she even put up jelly....but that never seemed to last long. My aunt dud the same. I also remember my grandmother turned her closet into a preserved food pantry..and it was always full. My how things have changed. I still make some jam, and I freeze a lot...but I do not trust me with preserving.
Tina, we eat mainly frozen veggies here..I lime the convenience and nutritive value of the frozen.

Pies and cranberry salad done... " chicken" in the oven.....giblets and chicken odds and ends simmering on the stove with veggies to make gravy with. In my 2 nd hour of roasting I will make the potatoes and green bean casserole.

Thanks Tina..it did turn out nicely..and there is enough left to eat tomorrow. That is the best part.

The whole Dudley family will have a Zoom date tomorrow at some point. My sister is going to let us know the time. I tried to call Valarie..but no answer. I left a message...Then in the early evening we called Emily. We had a nice visit with her.

I am looking forward to the zoom call tomorrow.

Did you get to "see" any of your family ??

Well, I've got Jonni and Teddy here with me. And I did talk to Tangela today. That is about all I wanted of the day. Hopefully next year would be better.

That is good Tina. Are all of your kids living in the same state as you now?

I got some of the outdoor decor up...I snipped a few branches of greenery from the backs of the evergreen trees in my yard. It was too wet to go back in the woods lol

Our nativity is put out and lit, my living room is decorated, and my small tree is up and has lights. I will finish putting ornaments on tomorrow.

Did anyone get any good Black Friday deals ?? I did not, sad to say.

Goodnight sleep well my friends

I got one without even knowing it. DD's work place had picnic hams at 75% off and they were only allowed one per customer. She bought me one and had the stock boy put one through for her as well. I was Black Friday shopping without even shopping. haha
