Thanks Tina.

I cut back the rest of the perennials and shrubs yesterday, just a few left to tie up in burlap.

My mitre saw gave out on me yesterday(the bearings are shot), we bought it second hand over 25 years ago but it sure is a pain cutting all those little trims by hand. As of today my flooring renovation is completed.

I did not do a whole lot. And I like it that way..a day (or so) of rest sounds divine.

I can take some pics later today Tina, I have to put my woodstove back in place and set up the pipes....the cold weather is hitting fast.

More rain for today, it will be a good day to get my baking done.

Yay for photos..I cannot wait.

Raining like cats & dogs here...it does make for good sleeping though.

Baking..perhaps I should start my baking soon. But first I need to get my Christmas gifts under control.

I think I will write my Christmas cards early as well.

Good morning !

Do not be too impressed. I start so early to spread out the cost...That and I love Christmas..the longer it lasts, the happier I am.

See, Sheri ...if you have gifts bought, and you do, then that counts.

Does your butcher process meat too, Sunny? Do you get bacon and ham also? There are all kinds of other things that most modern households don't use.

Mid to high 80's tomorrow..then the next day possible thunderstorms.... Ok Saturday..possible storms Sunday..cooler next week...crazy weather for sure.

I dont know about fresh bacon but this great value hickory smoked bacon that I was given when I ordered from Wal-Mart was awful. I LOVE good bacon......but this stuff tastes like fake bacon...and they sent me 2..(great...not)

Better say goodnight now..I have 3% power left.

No, he cuts not processes. The bacon he cuts in back bacon, thick cut with rind on....it's like a crispy fresh pork chop when cooked. We get sliced hocks, roasts, back ribs racks, pork chops, stew meat and roasts. I'll be curious to know the weight so I can figure out the cost to us....pig feed went higher in price.

I buy my processed bacon from our local store, it is a store brand and tastes mildly smoked. It as well has sure jumped in price.

Everything is more costly. I don't look at grocery prices. I don't go to the store. I do get my receipts but they are hard for me to see without a magnifying glass, the print is too light.

Morning,

I agree grocery prices are getting higher, and they say they are going to run out again soon... so glad we hoarded... we are good for at least 4 months or so if we have too.... good cause hubby and I both have to go get glasses soon and eye exams... that will be at least a months grocery money...

I haven't been to a store either... hubby does shopping for us.. we went a couple weeks ago to get flu shots, they said we both had temps.. so no shots, didn't feel sick (either one of us) so we spent the last couple weeks taking our temps.. finally today I was normal.. he was within a couple days... so either I had the virus or something else but never felt sick... weird... haven't been anywhere for months.. and never without a mask...

Well off to figure out my checkbook.. they say I have more money than I think I do so hope that is so.... !

Nana

Yes about needing groceries & such again. I heard it is going to get bad again. I have not ever gotten into some if my " stash" especially the TP, still have some hand sanitizer and cleaners also.. I have been buying new when what I am using runs out. I will see about stocking some more I guess.

It would be nice if you could get an antibody test to see if you had it, Sherri. It would be nice to know that.
I am glad that you are all on top of the need to stock up in case things go south in the supply chains again. I am very glad most are staying safe. It has been a long few months and it looks like another few months but we can do it together.
My county did really well at first. .Although LA, the county next to us, had rising numbers we were staying steady and going downward at just over 2,000 cases and 98 deaths. So on May 8th my county decided to drop the mask mandate and a week later the cases rose. And rose. Our governor took it into his own hands and slapped a statewide mandate back in place about a month later. But he was too late, We went up to 61,550 cases and 1,070 deaths. Our rates are nearly back to where they were before but it didn't have to ever get so bad.

We lose our 'bubble family' tonight.....we are going back a phase due to four groups of community spread cases in our zone. In a few days we might be back to 'no school/medical appt's' again.

GB will be quite upset that he can't come this weekend...and I have no clue what DD is going to do for her job. I was her weekend babysitter.

Oh my ! What will Julie do ? I agree. And of you take him you could well end up keeping him until spring ! rolz shock

Tina..I thought we had options...we can get TV with several services but we can only get internet from the company we are with. AND if we drop TV with our current provider they will raise our charges to meet what we are paying now. We are trapped where we are.

So we will have to cut back somewhere else I guess.

Junie, I love GB but I am already raising one grandchild so I have to stand my ground. She will have to work school hours and if they cancel school then they have to give her a 'lay off' until it starts up again. She would qualify for Employment Insurance then.

Tina, It is going to break my heart to tell him no visiting and no Halloween. He is obsessed with that holiday....they have already cancelled the door to door treating. I will still do my drive by visiting if able...I used to go visit him at the front window and leave treats on the step when we were shut down this spring.

I understand, Sunny... You could drive by his Halloween 🎃 candy..he could dress up to get it then... And you could stand way back and you could both see each other then.

It is finally raining and thundering. We need the rain too, so I guess this is good..but not the cold weather that this front is bringing.

It's cold and crisp outside...I guess it's time to tie up the shrubs and cover the boxwoods. My Fall/Winter 'to do' list is almost completed....DH's is behind though so I'll probably add some of his to mine.

Have a good one.

Good morning. Don't you just love technology, Tina. What happened to the time when if something was not working we all understood what needed to be fixed.....most if the time now, it is a guessing game. I still remember when my internet provider upgraded their systems and the upgrade was more than our computer could handle. After like 3 house calls ( free at the time) and several calls, a kind clerk told me it was my computer..we had to get a new one.... rolz

Weather here is 45*F. I still have to remove my 🍅 plants...but then I am done until spring. I will not do that until after the first hard frost. Which was supposed to be the 15 th I think.

Well, my phone company was a no show. And won't be here on Sunday. So I'll have to wait until Monday.
I'll say sweet dreams now in case I can't get back in again.

Mmmm chicken and dumplings, I haven't had that in forever.

The police are going store to store in our zone and fining people, $250 for not having a mask on, (even if just part of your mouth and not your nose is covered) you are fined....there are going to be lots of unhappy people this week.

Good! They will pay attention now. If they would do that in the US our cases would be way down. And people would still be alive and well.
Now my phone is completely out. Except my internet is still on. I am very confused. But I know it's not my modem now.

Yes Tina, the outbreak where I live is the worst that we have seen in our province. We border against Quebec which has the highest in all of Canada....they are trying to maintain some kind of control. If the cases continue to rise this week then they will shut down our zone completely.

Tina, I have seen us lose different services all through the same modem....they had to reboot it directly from the provider of our services through their system. I hope it is an easy fix.

It is snowing quite heavily at the moment....the first snow looks pretty.

This virus is ghastly. This is the second wave travelling the world right now. Mast countries learned from the first wave and are shutting down the areas where it is showing up. They've got the right idea.
But in the US we have maybe the second wave blending into the unfinished first. I feel so bad for the dead, the sick and their families. I feel for the recovered and the lingering symptoms they often have. And those could be life long or life threatening.
And I am glad the rest of the world sees how we're handling it all and not wanting us to visit. They shouldn't want come here either. I truly hope a vaccine happens next year and we can trust it.
Snow! It is beautiful at first.

I am officially older than dirt. I went to the doctor today so I can renew Levothyroxine and the medical assistant asked me if I've fallen lately or in the last year. I asked her if she's asking me old lady questions now and she just laughed. I told her no, I haven't fallen, but I feel like knocking her down for asking me that. smile

Weather here is still unusually warm. Still getting okra from the garden.

Cold here but not to the freezing stage yet...when it gets there I will pull out u tomatoes plants.

I have been asked that..but since I have broken bones I thought nothing of it..I will next time

Tomorrow is DH:s Birthday. There is will be special meals prepared.

I will say goodnight now. Sleep well my friends

I'm still chuckling over Bestofour's "older than dirt" comment...too funny.

We got over 4 inches of snow last night, it looks pretty but that's about it. They never called in the plow guys yet to start their seasonal jobs so there were plenty of tow trucks on the roads this morning.

Hi all,
Happy Birthday Rod. my youngest's is tomorow... though how she can be 43 is beyond me... wasn't I just 43...? LOL!

Just finished paying bills and finally figured out why my checkbook didn't balance... wrote in a check twice ... was driving me nuts... but at least I know why I was off...

Well if Bestoffour is older than dirt I am really old! LOL! but better than the alternative I guess....

Well off to find some late lunch and maybe dust and vacuum - or get hubby to vacuum... it's leftovers for dinner so don't have to do that at least... did I tell you all we went to get flu shots week before last and they took or temps said we were ill and to come back in 2 weeks... so either we had covid for something... never felt sick... so he quit running a temp in a couple days I had one for a week or so.. low but there... finally ok for the last few days so going again tomorrow... hopefully will get them ok .

Take care all, stay well...
Nana

You know..I think Rod had to have his temp. taken to get his shot, at his pharmacy, .but I got mine when I went for my quarterly check up at the Drs. & while they asked me if I was running a temp, when I checked in, they also took my word for it. rolz why

I will tell Rod you all wished him happy birthday 🎂. He is cooking Brats on the grill for supper...and it has begun to mist... egad

Nana, you'd think they'd give a covid test if they thought you were ill. That's what they do here, if you run a temp...you are sent for a test within 24 hrs. We are on the waiting list for our shot.

Tina, GG is still in school. At the moment there are 4 kids in her class...they said there were only 30 kids in the whole school this week. Parents are refusing to send the kids but not applying for home schooling...this is going to be a mess to sort out.

Junie, enjoy some cake for me.

What kind of cake Junie? Hope the celebration was great.

Tina, that sounds like a great meal. I love mac n cheese and peas and carrots so I'm gonna try them together. Thanks Teddy.

I don't trust the thermometers or the temperature takes or both. When they tell you you're temp is 93.7 so "go on in" ya gotta know somethings not right. When I questioned it, I was told that when it reads that low it's known that my temp is not above 100. I supposed there is a certain logic in that but how do they know the thermometer isn't broken if it's reading that low?

Yes about the temp reading..and what about people like me...on a usual day my temp is between 96.8 and 97.8..so at what point do I have a fever ??...noone seems to care..they gauge me on 98.6.

Rod was pleased with his day, so that is what was important. Sheri, it was a white cake with my homemade chocolate icing. He let me pick what I wanted to make (?)

Emily sent a video of the boys telling Grandpa Happy Birthday ..and Valarie sent a Marco Polo of the kids all saying happy birthday and singing it to him. So that was nice.

Friday night My Valarie and her family will come over. We dont see them much lately but since I had the kids recently we went ahead and invited them over for Friday night. Not really wise, I guess, but since we have been around them recently we went ahead and planned for it.

It will, DH forgot to tell me that he asked the butcher to prefreeze it for us...that will add another two days to the waiting time. It is a big job to keep rotating the meat in our freezer to freeze it evenly and quickly so the butcher said he could do it there.

They just made it against the law to trick or treat or give out candy for Halloween here. We were already told not to do it but I guess some people will refuse and do it anyway.

Good morning. It is sad that they had to make a law for that, Sunny. It just makes sense to stop the spread.

Yes it does just make sense..but it seems some do not have sense.

I have no idea what the rules are around me..BUT I have not put out my electric pumpkin and I will not have my light on. I do have candy bags made up for my local grands and their cousins..but I will give the cousins candy to Valarie.

I mailed my Grands in Virginia theirs several days ago. It was surprisingly cheap to mail. I hope it was weighed correctly.

I hope it reaches them in time and un good shape, Carol. The mail has slowed down so much these days. They set the overflow aside and it can get beat up waiting delivery. This turn of events is not the mail handlers fault.

As crazy as this sounds, our mail has sped up. Everything is automatically put by air travel if possible.

The police have started making rounds this week and checking cars. If you are in a vehicle with others and your address doesn't match on your iid's then you are fined. At this rate...they should have things back in control very soon thumbup

A good idea. I have read stories about mail carrier collecting mail after working hours and delivering it on their own time. The state of the postal service is driving them nuts. Someone needs to be prosecuted for messing with the mail.

Good morning.

Our postal carriers have to work on Sunday also. They are trying to keep up with Amazon's Sunday delivery option.

Finally not raining.

Good morning. Our mail people have always worked on Sundays. Mail is constantly on the move from state to state and throughout the world. Our current situation is a political story and not allowed here.

Our mail was Monday to Friday, then a few years ago they added a half day on Saturday then this Summer they added Sundays for delivery only.

I got my pork, my freezer is so full that I have no room for the beef we were gong to process next month. I wish we could 'rent a freezer' for a few months.

They used to have freezer lockers here. When you had an animal butchered you rented a locker for the end results. You visited every couple of weeks or so to reclaim what you wanted from it. That was before a lot of people had deep freezes and many tiny freezers.

Actually we had.a.freezer and rented.spaxe in the local.grocery locker.for.our deer. You might as the grocery store, Sunny. And if you have a rent to own store they just might rent you a freezer. But have you considered buying a small freezer to add to what you have ? When not in use you could unplug it...and look in the sale.adds..perhaps someone has one to sell cheap.

There are no places here to rent freezer space. My aunt has been trying to buy a second hand freezer since the Summer, she gave up last week and bought a new one. It is moose and deer season so freezers are in high demand. I might have to make a deal with a family member (that I can trust) to share their freezer in trade for some meat. DD's and my moms are full(they only have the smallest ones that you can buy).

I just got in, we had the septic man in to clean our tank. We get it done every two years as maintenance...I've seen what failed tanks can do and it seems it always happens in Winter.

I might get my groceries this afternoon if my pick ups are ready...it is hard getting three pick ups in line within the same time frame.

I hope you can get everything you need in one trip. Sunny.
You've made me think of food preservation again. What we did before electricity.
Good morning. I am a little saddened this morning. We topped 100,000 a day in new corona cases yesterday in the US. And that is only Covid 19. The new strain known as 20A.EU1. that's ripping through Europe hasn't even reached us yet.(I think). It looks like it's more easily caught than the old one. Lord help us all.

Thanks Tina, I heard about that corona mutation yesterday, they say that it was found from a particular farm that was located somewhere in the north of Spain. I fear it will be never ending for us. I am often reminded of my grandmother's bible teachings and stories of past pandemics.

We did get our call for our regular flu shot for Monday afternoon.

Good gracious..the new strain of Covid ??? Just Great ! NOT what I want to hear.
And I sure DO NOT look towards a virus more easily caught. I guess all us old people just as well die now, huh ???

People in the neighborhood are getting ready for trick or treaters. Since we do not get a paper unless we hear it on the news, we have no idea about it. I would have liked to think the town would have cancelled it for this year

Christmas...I just made out 2 orders with a mail order catelog...one will be sent to my DD in Virginia...the other will come to me. If I am to be charged for shipping, I do not want to pay it twice. .........

on other news and notes, I hate this virus....

Hi all
For the record I hate this virus and all it's mutations too....we tried to get our flu shots 2 weeks ago.. took our temps and we both had a fever... so we came home... took our temps for a week and a half - hubby cleared in a few days , took me almost 10... so went back and finally got our shots... so at least we are good with that now... weird thing is we never felt ill at all.... so who knows maybe we had it? won't go out and test - don't quite see the point.. still going to isolate either way.... at the rate we are going it will be another yr or so..... sure glad I like to read...

Well off to get dinner started and see what else I can do..

Nana

The kids came by..Mom & Dad had planned in staying a bit..but the kids thought they were getting to go trick or treating...but they were just going to a small family party...but that worked for them so noone stayed much...I watched Alton Brown's Halloween show. The ending was surprising I must say.

How was yours, Sunny ??

Our Halloween was just laid back. Jonni had control of the tv so she had on Goosebumps movies and I relaxed with my computer. Reading news bits can be a horror show of it's own (but it's real so not a show).

It was strange not having kids at the door....close family dropped off treats for the kids on Friday. I made myself nauseated by eating too much fudge, lesson learned on me....usually I give most of it away to the treaters. lol

Catching up on laundry today while DH finishes up some tractor work.

When Brian' s sister brought by her kids ( I had bought them treats but thought Val would give it to them) about 20 kids, ran up to them..thinking this was their house and they were finally home...but they told the kids I was not open tonight..so they left.

Good morning. Do you have a specific time for your shots today or just today, Sunny?

Aubry was our only trick or treater. Where we live isn't conducive to trick or treaters in a good year. Aubry's 12 so this will probably be the last for us. Colt went out in their little town and people slide candy through pipes and down slides. It was different and exciting.

Johnny's sister has been in the hospital for over a week now. I think tumors are growing instead of shrinking and now she can't eat or breath. It's sad.

We both got our flu shots.....thankfully....at least that is one less thing to worry about.

We had a freeze last night. I tried to save one of my tomato plants by putting it up against the house and covering it with 2 blankets. This week is supposed to be our Indian Summer so perhaps I can get 1 or 2 more tomatoes. I am asuming the rest are done for.

Sorry for your SiL, Sheri.

4 pm Tina, it is 3 pm now and the snow is just beginning to fall....GG gets home from school in 25 minutes. It is only a 8 minute drive though.

I am so sorry about your SIL, Bestofour.

The weather was awful outdoors today...it was a good day to catch up and get the mopping and such done.
