Good morning.
It is like a beautiful fall day today. The weather forecasters say by this weekend the heat will be back.

Tina, the storm went more West than planned. We were spared the worst but Quebec was not...they have broken lines, trees and no power.
The cat will never forgive me for his visit today. Neuter and eye surgery at the same time....he is so sedated that he cannot even control any part of himself.

Anyone know if they put out a link to the hand sanitizer recall? I heard that the list is growing fast.

I hadn't heard about more than 2 before. Until you asked. But now there are over 100. So here's a start for you. https://www.fda.gov/drugs/drug-safe...hand-sanitizers-consumers-should-not-use

Most of the banned ones should be off the shelves. But some sneak in mostly in dollar stores. So there is that. I was wondering if Sunny got some off brand and was looking to see if it was safe. What have you been up to, Carol? You've been very quiet.

My sanitizer is 'One Step' and 'Isagel'.....both from a pharmacy(Walmart and local) but my mother bought a load of different brands from everywhere. I heard there was a recall of 51 in Canada but I am going to double check the link you shared Tina because I know she bought some from the dollar store as well. Thanks. Today is the first day of haying season, we spent a lot of time servicing equipment last week but now starts the real work. It is calling for 5 days of hot, dry weather....the farmers are out in full force this morning.

Lord Christmas is going to be sad this year. I can buy online..but I love walking around the stores seeing what there is to get ideas...
I hope your haying goes well, Sunny.

Dollar Stores are great for a lot of things but when I worked at the HD, where we did lead testing so we got all the call backs, and Mexicans would come in all the time with lead containing bracelets on their babies that they'd just bought at the Dollar Store. Of course babies chew on things that you put on their arms and when they're tested at age 2 a lot came back positive for lead. You can tell a parent and tell a parent and tell a parent but they just don't believe it and since symptoms take a while to show up they don't believe it until it's too late.
Junie, Christmas won't be sad. It will be happy because you and yours will be safe and sound.
We're all a little freaked because Colt's school opened today.
It's interesting to me that people didn't clean with Lysol and Clorox before it became a matter of life and death. I've used both all my life.

Christmas will have the joy that I bring to it. When things look bleak I get reading. I see how Christmases were in hard times and am thankful for what I have to give. I remember how hard things have been in my own Christmases past. I give to a local drive for the less fortunate kids. It is what I make of it. And it is in my heart. Have a great haying harvest, Sunny. That's Christmas for your horses and cows.

Thanks all, the harvest will be sparse....the weather did not cooperate. We will be o.k. but there are already farmers in a panic. I can see a lot of selling and downsizing this year....it is the third year in a row where the feed has gone down. I use Lysol all the time as well Bestofour...it was always a staple in my household. I won't let GG wear dollar store jewelry due to the lead either, and of course the other 'moms' think I am crazy. Junie, we put too much pressure on ourselves for holidays. I think this pandemic might be worst gift wise but in the long run, maybe it will show us another way to celebrate. We had poor Christmas's over the years...but those are the ones I remember with the fondest memories. That being said...I'd still like a day out to roam and look at the stores as well Maybe everyone will get Lysol in their stockings this year.

LOL about the Lysol filled stockings, Sunny.
I gave the wrong impression, ladies. Valarie was saying IF they are still in school at Christmas time, they will on!y have 1 week off. And she feels she would have to be at home for at least 14 days before she and her family saw us and my family for the Christmas holidays. I can always ship gifts, or leave them on their porch steps but it is the being together that I will miss.
Sheri: Keep us posted on Colt's school year.

Do you at least have enough for your own stock, Sunny? Yes, we should be good....we only keep half the animals that we did before. I understand what you mean now Junie...it's hard to split time with so many family members.

I'm so glad your animals will not starve, Sunny. Did your garden do well this year? Tina, it is going good so far...well except for my green peppers. I only have 6 peppers growing and that is on 4 plants. It is always a hit or miss with some things, GG lost her cauliflower to cabbage worms as well. Fingers crossed that the potatoes are growing well in the ground. The hay is drying out in the fields, so today will be a 'calm before the storm' rest while you can kind of day

Resting is a good plan, Sunny. My first gardening experiment I grew summer squash when I was about 6 years old. My older brother grew corn and radishes were my sisters. Anyway, we had more squash than we could handle so I piled it up in my big red wagon and sold it all to my neighbors. After that we put in fruit trees. Pleasant memories. Good morning all.

Good morning. Sunny, can you try to leave the peppers in the ground later than the rest of the garden ? Back home when I did that, if I could keep the plants alive, they would put on peppers in the fall. My SIL is putting in fall garden. But then they have 4 small kids and themselves to feed. They have been canning pickles, tomatoes, spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce to mention a few. It has been very helpful that he is now working from home. His "office" is his garage.. He put in a one room A/C unit there. It seems the internet serves him better out there. Plus since he is not in the hospital to stop and help people with their problems all day he geta a lot more of his work done and so has free time he would not normally have.

Sunny, I've given up on growing things like cauliflower and cabbage because of those worms. My sister in WV has an enclosed greenhouse and the worms still got on their plants. You'd think your cold temps and her cold temps would kill off the stupid things. I remember years when our farmer friends were making trips to Texas and places to bring back hay for their animals. Now Texas has been in a drought for so long I'm sure that's not an option. I haven't heard that NC will have a problem this year. We've had plenty of rain and then plenty of hot dry days so I hope it's been favorable for farmers. I drive by big fields with bales sitting all around us. Makes a beautiful picture. How many animals do you have Sunny? Junie, Shelley was saying the same thing about Darbi. Her university will start as normal and Shelley was saying if they quarantine her at Christmas in grandmas house (which has sat empty but kept up for years now because father in law is weird about it), it would mean it would be time for Darbi to go back to school before they got to spend any time with her. Shelley's house is big enough they could social distance with for her to come in but it's not a great plan is it. We've had Christmas day temperatures as high as 55° in the past, which would be lovely for an outside Christmas day picnic, and this may be our answer. Now that I think of it that might actually be fun. We could decorate an outside tree and put presents under it. Aubry would love it.

Hi, Sheri..yes with good temps that might just be your answer. I think we will not be so lucky..but that would be fun I agree. I will hope for a warmer Christmas here.
I hear my niece is going to keep her kids home this year and have them taught virtually . problem is they are 10 and 12 and so they will have to be at "Grammies" 5 days a week. That is going to be hard I think. We will see what transpires. I am sure glad that my kids are not of school age.

Home schooling is hard work....GG was the only one to complete her year online from her grade(the teacher emailed me about it). The rest of the parents in her class gave up because they were completely lost. I have no idea what will happen this year because online work will be mandatory. They will have to have online schooling for the parents as well Sheri, I have 2 pigs, 3 horses(one out on loan) and 7 cows...it's a small hobby farm but still a lot of work. I'm smiling at the image of little Tina pulling her wagon.

Little Tina was put to work pulling her wagon a lot. My brother, 4 years older, would need money and decide to sell something and send me out because I was good at it. I was cute. I also sold lemonade to the workers building my new school more than a half mile away. Then the kids that lived closer found out and my business tanked. But it was a great summer to earn money until then.

Gosh, I remember picking and peeling beaked hazelnuts as a kid. We'd sell them by the cup to people driving by...I'd be terrified to let my grands do that now. How times have changed.

I'm concerned about the population from Mexico in our area who have parents who no hables inglés. Many of these parents have no schooling at all because the schools in Mexico may be a long walk from the villages and for many of them education isn't a priority anyway. Sometimes children aren't put in school for months and it isn't known until their mother shows up at the HD pregnant and a truant officer is called. I hope there's a way to keep these children from falling further behind than they are when they come to Monroe. Shelley called me today and I could hear Aubry and Colby arguing in the background. He was supposed to be helping her with her math.

Yes, that was one of the arguments for opening schools that I heard. It said kids did not learn much last spring while home, and so now the powers that be think in school is where they should be. Sweet Dreams :
