thumbup

We are getting heavy thunder all day....it sure is grey and dreary out there.

I just looked through my leftover paint cans and see that I have enough from GG's room to paint my closet. It is a light blue-green and my room is a light brown so it'll work. I have a picture in there with blue green birds in it as well already. There is always a place to put leftover paint thumbup

And Sounds pretty, Sunny.
I guess our fire is at least 25% contained. And is no danger to us any longer. Breathing easier now. I have a house full of lovely things to eat.
I watched John Lewis' funeral today,. It was heartwarming.

Yes that sounds very nice, Sunny. Glad you had such an agreeable color of paint on hand. I can see you smiling when you are done painting. Yay !

Glad things are sounding better with the fire Tina. You sure will sleep well tonight.!
Enjoy eating your new foods.

Very tired...waiting for the dryer to finish then I will go to bed.
( Cora has told me she wants pancakes for breakfast. So you all know where I will be at 8 am!)

I am glad to hear that the fire has reached a higher containment Tina, and I wish I could share my rain.

I'm going for pancakes at 8am with Cora grin

I'm not sure what today holds. I need to paint the closet, I also need to call in a grocery order, I need to do the weeks baking and I need to hide and do nothing haha

I never found it haha Grocery order has been placed for pick up tomorrow, cookies are out of the oven, bread is rising and brownies are being mixed. Laundry is going and I'm taping off areas for the closet painting. Maybe I'll find that hiding place tomorrow.

Hey..where.are you Sunny ?? Your pancakes are getting cold.

And when you find a hiding place, do let us know where it is. I know I too would like to hide and do nothing.

Raining off and on here now.

I’ve been wanting pancakes for over a year. I need to breakdown and do it.

Speaking of paint, can it be used in cooking meth? One of the guys who works for Johnny sometimes is a meth addict and always wants any leftover paint we have. He’s mostly homeless so I wonder.

You can buy premade pancakes, Sheri..they are in the freezer section at Wal-Mart. And you can buy boxed pancake mix that you just add water to. So there are options to get your pancake fix. . ..You to not have to make them from scratch.there are other options.

haha I'll never ask for old paint again.

Just did my grocery pick-up....with the store brand that I demanded(I knew they were scamming people). All one has to do is say, 'no substitutions' and like magic every item is store brand like I asked for.

Good for you, Sunny. I wish I could order from wal- mart..I have no idea why they do things like they do. To go get my groceries and not get out of the car was ao nice...and safe.

It's nap time Junie lol

It is HOT here and humid. We are under heat warnings for two days followed by a cyclone/hurricane advisory for after that...yup, it is August.

I filled the clothesline with towels, made a big breakfast and am hiding from the heat. Any takers on doing all the dishes? haha

I bet it's hotter here, Sunny. I kept waking to turn a different side to the fan.
I see Isaias is going your direction to fall apart. I hope it is just gentle cooling rains by then.

93° here. Hot.

Junie you inspired me. I made myself pancakes and topped them with blueberries I had frozen. Delicious and I’m stuffed. Why are you up so early?

Did we decide it’s nap time?

Rodney wanted to get up early so he set his phone for 5 to beat the heat.
I thought that I would simply roll over and go back to sleep, but I was wrong.

Glad you had your pancakes, Sheri. They sound delicious. I just saw a Pioneer woman where she added shopped strawberrirs, and a few other things to pancake mix. Gonna try that for the kids next time.

Sorry for the heat ladies, Yesterday and today it was and will be cool here. High 60's & 70's yesterday..very low 80's today. Carol is happy.

Wow Junie those are cool temps for August. Are you expecting storms? I think it's supposed to be 79° here tomorrow but it's because of Hurricane Isaias.

Wish they'd come take down this tree before we get much wind.

We'll get rain and winds from Isaiais and storm surges along the bay. This weather has been drawing in lots of sharks to our waters.

Don't see many sharks here in the desert. It is one of the few perks of living here.

I'm here.

I went out early to start the lawn work...I started at 9 a.m. and just got done at 2 p.m. It is cooler today because of the fore coming weather. I will be gone tomorrow for a bit with the cat's surgery appt....I will be fine though because DH has the day off and he is driving. We are supposed to only get heavy rain. I'll check in later tomorrow afternoon.

Good morning.

It is like a beautiful fall day today. The weather forecasters say by this weekend the heat will be back.

Tina, the storm went more West than planned. We were spared the worst but Quebec was not...they have broken lines, trees and no power.

The cat will never forgive me for his visit today. Neuter and eye surgery at the same time....he is so sedated that he cannot even control any part of himself.

Anyone know if they put out a link to the hand sanitizer recall? I heard that the list is growing fast.

I hadn't heard about more than 2 before. Until you asked. But now there are over 100. So here's a start for you.

I too have purell, germ-x and the Sam's brand. I have looked for more brand name hand sanitizer in the last few days and nope none anywhere.

Most of the banned ones should be off the shelves. But some sneak in mostly in dollar stores. So there is that. I was wondering if Sunny got some off brand and was looking to see if it was safe.
What have you been up to, Carol? You've been very quiet.

My sanitizer is 'One Step' and 'Isagel'.....both from a pharmacy(Walmart and local) but my mother bought a load of different brands from everywhere. I heard there was a recall of 51 in Canada but I am going to double check the link you shared Tina because I know she bought some from the dollar store as well. Thanks.

Today is the first day of haying season, we spent a lot of time servicing equipment last week but now starts the real work. It is calling for 5 days of hot, dry weather....the farmers are out in full force this morning. grin

Good morning ! I wish I could go out shopping today.

Lord Christmas is going to be sad this year. I can buy online..but I love walking around the stores seeing what there is to get ideas...

I hope your haying goes well, Sunny.

Dollar Stores are great for a lot of things but when I worked at the HD, where we did lead testing so we got all the call backs, and Mexicans would come in all the time with lead containing bracelets on their babies that they'd just bought at the Dollar Store. Of course babies chew on things that you put on their arms and when they're tested at age 2 a lot came back positive for lead. You can tell a parent and tell a parent and tell a parent but they just don't believe it and since symptoms take a while to show up they don't believe it until it's too late.

Junie, Christmas won't be sad. It will be happy because you and yours will be safe and sound.

We're all a little freaked because Colt's school opened today.

It's interesting to me that people didn't clean with Lysol and Clorox before it became a matter of life and death. I've used both all my life.

Christmas will have the joy that I bring to it. When things look bleak I get reading. I see how Christmases were in hard times and am thankful for what I have to give. I remember how hard things have been in my own Christmases past. I give to a local drive for the less fortunate kids. It is what I make of it. And it is in my heart.
Have a great haying harvest, Sunny. That's Christmas for your horses and cows.

Thanks all, the harvest will be sparse....the weather did not cooperate. We will be o.k. but there are already farmers in a panic. I can see a lot of selling and downsizing this year....it is the third year in a row where the feed has gone down.

I use Lysol all the time as well Bestofour...it was always a staple in my household. I won't let GG wear dollar store jewelry due to the lead either, and of course the other 'moms' think I am crazy.

Junie, we put too much pressure on ourselves for holidays. I think this pandemic might be worst gift wise but in the long run, maybe it will show us another way to celebrate. We had poor Christmas's over the years...but those are the ones I remember with the fondest memories. That being said...I'd still like a day out to roam and look at the stores as well lol Maybe everyone will get Lysol in their stockings this year.

LOL about the Lysol filled stockings, Sunny.

I gave the wrong impression, ladies. Valarie was saying IF they are still in school at Christmas time, they will on!y have 1 week off. And she feels she would have to be at home for at least 14 days before she and her family saw us and my family for the Christmas holidays. I can always ship gifts, or leave them on their porch steps but it is the being together that I will miss.

Sheri: Keep us posted on Colt's school year.

Yes, we should be good....we only keep half the animals that we did before.

I understand what you mean now Junie...it's hard to split time with so many family members.

Tina, it is going good so far...well except for my green peppers. I only have 6 peppers growing and that is on 4 plants. It is always a hit or miss with some things, GG lost her cauliflower to cabbage worms as well. Fingers crossed that the potatoes are growing well in the ground.

The hay is drying out in the fields, so today will be a 'calm before the storm' rest while you can kind of day lol

Resting is a good plan, Sunny.
My first gardening experiment I grew summer squash when I was about 6 years old. My older brother grew corn and radishes were my sisters. Anyway, we had more squash than we could handle so I piled it up in my big red wagon and sold it all to my neighbors. After that we put in fruit trees. Pleasant memories.
Good morning all.

Good morning.

Sunny, can you try to leave the peppers in the ground later than the rest of the garden ? Back home when I did that, if I could keep the plants alive, they would put on peppers in the fall.

My SIL is putting in fall garden. But then they have 4 small kids and themselves to feed.

They have been canning pickles, tomatoes, spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce to mention a few. It has been very helpful that he is now working from home. His "office" is his garage..
He put in a one room A/C unit there. It seems the internet serves him better out there.
Plus since he is not in the hospital to stop and help people with their problems all day he geta a lot more of his work done and so has free time he would not normally have.

Sunny, I've given up on growing things like cauliflower and cabbage because of those worms. My sister in WV has an enclosed greenhouse and the worms still got on their plants. You'd think your cold temps and her cold temps would kill off the stupid things.

I remember years when our farmer friends were making trips to Texas and places to bring back hay for their animals. Now Texas has been in a drought for so long I'm sure that's not an option. I haven't heard that NC will have a problem this year. We've had plenty of rain and then plenty of hot dry days so I hope it's been favorable for farmers. I drive by big fields with bales sitting all around us. Makes a beautiful picture. How many animals do you have Sunny?

Junie, Shelley was saying the same thing about Darbi. Her university will start as normal and Shelley was saying if they quarantine her at Christmas in grandmas house (which has sat empty but kept up for years now because father in law is weird about it), it would mean it would be time for Darbi to go back to school before they got to spend any time with her. Shelley's house is big enough they could social distance with for her to come in but it's not a great plan is it. We've had Christmas day temperatures as high as 55° in the past, which would be lovely for an outside Christmas day picnic, and this may be our answer. Now that I think of it that might actually be fun. We could decorate an outside tree and put presents under it. Aubry would love it.

Hi, Sheri..yes with good temps that might just be your answer. I think we will not be so lucky..but that would be fun I agree. I will hope for a warmer Christmas here.

I hear my niece is going to keep her kids home this year and have them taught virtually . problem is they are 10 and 12 and so they will have to be at "Grammies" 5 days a week. That is going to be hard I think. We will see what transpires. I am sure glad that my kids are not of school age.

Home schooling is hard work....GG was the only one to complete her year online from her grade(the teacher emailed me about it). The rest of the parents in her class gave up because they were completely lost. I have no idea what will happen this year because online work will be mandatory. They will have to have online schooling for the parents as well lol

Sheri, I have 2 pigs, 3 horses(one out on loan) and 7 cows...it's a small hobby farm but still a lot of work.

I'm smiling at the image of little Tina pulling her wagon. smile

Little Tina was put to work pulling her wagon a lot. My brother, 4 years older, would need money and decide to sell something and send me out because I was good at it. I was cute. I also sold lemonade to the workers building my new school more than a half mile away. Then the kids that lived closer found out and my business tanked. But it was a great summer to earn money until then.

Gosh, I remember picking and peeling beaked hazelnuts as a kid. We'd sell them by the cup to people driving by...I'd be terrified to let my grands do that now. How times have changed.

I'm concerned about the population from Mexico in our area who have parents who no hables inglés. Many of these parents have no schooling at all because the schools in Mexico may be a long walk from the villages and for many of them education isn't a priority anyway. Sometimes children aren't put in school for months and it isn't known until their mother shows up at the HD pregnant and a truant officer is called. I hope there's a way to keep these children from falling further behind than they are when they come to Monroe.

Shelley called me today and I could hear Aubry and Colby arguing in the background. He was supposed to be helping her with her math. smile

Yes, that was one of the arguments for opening schools that I heard. It said kids did not learn much last spring while home, and so now the powers that be think in school is where they should be.

I watched the best movie on Netflix, The Bookshop. It's based on a true story. No blood and guts and just plain acting. Nice.

We've had so much rain our yard is like a jungle. I trimmed one shrub last night and it took forever. It's just too hot to try and get it done during the day.

Well shoot. I don’t often watch TV so I’m not sure it’s worth my money but it’s nice to have a choice.

Happy birthday to GG.

Reading is good Tina, I wish the library in town was open...I get books there often in Winter.

Thanks for the birthday wishes for GG.

I have to take GB home later....it is so hot outside that we can't even go out to play.

Yes, I wish I could.go.to the library. We are due to pay for a new new one in Cape.that Valarie goes.to ..but unless we are going to the weekly children's program it is not worth it to me. Perhaps I will see if the local town has one. That should be free to me.

I just got 1 gallon of water from last night's rain. And a big bowl of tomatoes from the vacationing neighbors. A few if my tomatoes should be ready to pick tomorrow.

Hey ! I posted in response about 30 minutes after you asked, Sheri....
I will try again !
,......,....................A library card would cost us $60.00 a year, as we do not live in the city limits of Cape Girardeau. To me that is a bit much, esp. since I would be the only one using it.

I will say sweet dreams now. Sleep well.

So true Tina.

I hope those curtains last forever...they are the easiest 'wash and hang' that I have ever owned(they came from Zellers, $15 for a two pack). I have had them for about 15 years and they get washed every few months and are still like new.

I forgot to add that this year we only got 34 large round bales from our fields(the lowest amount we have ever seen)....I remember that over five years ago we used to get 60. Global warming is having an extreme impact on everything.

Good morning !

Wow that is a big difference, Sunny . and there are people that say global.warming is not.a.real.thing...SMH

I had, have curtains like that..I had 3 colors..white, blue and rust orange. The white ones washed and came out white as snow....I have had them.for years..... I just mention it so you know that I understand how wonderful that is.

Gosh $60.00 is a lot. Could you use Valarie's?

Sunny is the hay problem because it's so hot the ground dries out that when rain comes it doesn't absorb? I can't imagine your bug population lives through your winter, which is my problem. Winters don't get cold enough to kill off bugs.

I have 1 double window over the kitchen sink and I got curtains at Family Dollar for maybe $6.00 and I throw them in the washing machine, then the dryer, than hang them back up. Love it.

She usually does buy the library card Sheri, but, with the corona virus there are too many people around in the library so no going to the library for us this year. Or I would have a library card.

Hard to believe but I have 2 windows and a door with a window in my kitchen. Mind you it is a tiny galley kitchen...But anyway,.I have a valance sized panel on the window iver the sink...Then on the other window and on the door windiw, I have white Cape Cod curtains.

TIna, I think we must have. Heat warnings today, and then storms and rain tonight.

Sweet Dreams everyone

Yes Sheri, the ground is so dry that even when it rains...it is not absorbing down far enough. The heat is too hot....and believe it or not, the cold does not kill the bugs. Although this heavy heat has kept the mosquitoes all at bay.

Oh well, the heat will be gone soon enough and I'll be complaining of snow before you know it. lol

I'm going to open a new coffeehouse for us.
