All fresh and new.

I bought a pack of those blue paper masks, I have only used 3 so far out of 20. I keep home but there is always that monthly trip that must be made for banking. People are making and selling masks here but they are just a piece of cotton with elastic. It looks good but there is no protection.

I can see the need for masks being a 'must' for a long time to come. They were talking about a recall on some hand sanitizers as well due to poisonous ingredients...has anyone heard of this as well?

Yes, they have an ingredient in them that is extremely toxic even on your skin. I cannot remember the brands or the chemical but I will when I see it again. They are from Mexico and are mostly sold in dollar stores, etc. I'll just stick to known brands.
I am going out today to the bank. After Tangela brings up my groceries. I will be the first time I've been past my mailbox since March first.
We live in interesting times.

Keep safe Tina...and enjoy the drive being out and about.

I picked my tame strawberries today and started making jelly...there were a lot more berries than I thought. They are smaller but more abundant this year.

I did not hear that about hand sanitizer, ladies. Thanks for the heads up.

Yes enjoy you day to the bank, Tina. And if I were you I would think long and hard to see if there were Any place else you had to go to while out. You know since you are already out and all. The less trips out the better.

Sunny..enjoy the berries. A quart of small berries is still a quart after all. You can always freeze berries that you want to make more jell/jam out of, and make more when you find more pectin after all. I would prepare what I needed for Jam and then freeze it until I wanted to make more Jam..it worked well.

On my 3rd load of clothes in the washing machine now.

Methyl alcohol is the bad stuff. I went to one bank and got in line. It was slow going and in full sun. I was frying. Then I crept up in 6 foot increments and got around the corner and realized that was the line to go into the bank. I only needed the atm, a much shorter line. Sigh!
Then to a second bank that I did need to go into. The line was in the shade there. But after a few minutes the manager came out and said the computer keeps crashing and it needs to be rebooted between every customer. I decided to come home.
I came home, put the rest groceries away that the kids left for me. Then grabbed a snack. I got on my computer and methyl- and ethylalcohol popped into my head. Ethyl is used in hand sanitizer. Methyl will make you go blind or kill you. Mexico was told not to export it to the States but it keeps showing up. Bad stuff.
Now I need a nap.

Sorry for the stressful day, Tina. But again thanks for explaining things to us.

I wanted to take a nap, and Rod must not have wanted me to sleep, he kept talking to me for like 5-20 minutes..that man can go hours w/o talking to me..But let me try to nap, and he becomes a chatterbox. Then once I was up, he was done talking..grrrrrr

Hi all,

Happy 4th , even though it will be just us... hubby is cooking out... made a tater salad and cooked beans in crock pot.. will just need to rewarm those for dinner... they say they are doing fireworks here.. didn't think they would with it so very dry but then I don't get a say...LOL!

Hubby is running out of projects ... of course I want my office painted but he hates to paint so is avoiding that suggestion.. someone painted it with 2 stripes , brown and green on one wall... really don't like it... should have made him paint before we set office up but needed the computer up and running ... even if he would just paint the one wall it would help... When he does get around to it I think I will switch my desk area with the sewing area and try and get big wall unit out, even if I have to give it away... to big for the room and all our other tvs are to big for it now... it's heavy though so will need someone to help get it out of here.. hubby said he would chop it up if no one wanted it... hate to do that as it's in good shape , just not big enough for a big screen tv..

Well going to go get busy doing something ... to hot to be outside .... it's 90* and humid... wouldn't mind a little rain to cool down...
Have a good holiday all , stay well.

Nana

This "covid thing" is enough to get anyone down, or drive them crazy..or both. LOL

I am so ready for this to be over myself...I understand that it is probably here to stay, as the flu is, but I would be so happy for those in the medical field to get a handle on it and to find some course of viable treatment and a vaccine would be wonderful indeed.

My feelings are different. The medical people work on the vaccine and roll it out as it is finished and been proven safe, And at this point I would need to hear it from a professional that I trust.
Until that happens I don;t stress about it, I plan. for it I plan meals. And meals that will do when I'm craving something else. And what I can share if things get tough for my neighbors. I plan other things like my funeral. It's all set in stone now. I plan birthdays and things. Planning is a way to channel my worries constructively. I can plan while I'm washing dishes, folding laundry and general cleaning. Planning beats stress any day.

Yes friends, I know it's a mess that we have to deal with but....

My mother just goes on and on about what others are doing. I keep telling her, I don't care if the neighbors are gathering at their house, or if someone is going on vacation or such. We can't control what others do...we have to just be careful and look after ourselves. She just won't let it go....to the point that I am fed up of hearing about it. My mother has always been such a negative, 'poor me' kind of person....and I am at my wit's end with it all. If she can't visit with some common sense then she can stay home. I can't take it anymore.....sorry for the rant, she just get's to me and makes me depressed each time she visits. It is at the point where I have family telling me that they can't deal with her anymore. She has been thrown out of two of her siblings homes already.

Enjoy your coffee and your kid time, Carol.

Sunny, that your mother puts you in that position is terrible for you. You are not responsible for her happiness. Just you own. Tell her and hang up. Or whatever you need to do.

One year (out of many) I was trying to get Jonni to clean her room. She wouldn't. So I said no toys for Christmas. And she didn't. She did get a simple metal detector. And a microscope. And a telescope. An interesting array for a 7 year old. Plus books and clothes. She is still a slob.

We are all here for each other, Sunny. Of course we understand.
Mine were the same..( sloppy) . I am glad to say both are good house keepers today. Not that you would know it..at my daughter's house with the triplets. They destroy as quickly as she picks up But hey, I thank the Lord they are all healthy, so it does not matter.

Hi all,
I hear you all on the kids messes, mine were mixed, son was neatest of the 3 but girls were terrible. would throw a fit once in a while and they would clean up but it would just all happen again... now they are both neat freaks and son is still. except when he is working on a car but he even cleans that mess up... so hang in there it could all work out...

I closed out my facebook for the the time being just got tired of all the negativity... kids can call if they want to talk to me...
It's hot here today , 99* and clouds building so hope it rains but not counting on it... I have an aloe plant to pot but it is just to hot out there till after dark to do it.. will go out then and get it done...

Well off to get busy doing something... got laundry done already and house picked up... been reading a lot ... to hot to do much else lately.

Nana

We gave Colt a metal detector that we never used and he loves it. Keeps him busy for hours BUT he does have a tendency to dig up the yard or wherever he thinks he's found "precious metal." Right now he's not allowed to use because of the digging in the front yard. Found that out when I mentioned us using it on Saturday. They are fun though. Maybe I'll get my own again. smile

Shelley was never a neat person. I once found a slice of pizza in her sock drawer. From the beginning, Ginger kept her room more organized then you can imagine. When she was coaching her boss told me she was the most organized person he'd ever met. If you want it done, Ginger can do it. Now Shelley keeps her house clean but not neat if that makes sense. Her shoes are thrown in the floor of her closet and I don't know how she finds a matching pair. The drawers are a mess but she washes baseboards, sweeps and vacuums, cleans the shower stall until it drives her children crazy. So if you don't open a door or drawer you think she's the cleanest person ever. Ginger's house is spotless and every cup is in a straight line or it's in the trash. The cans in her pantry are lined up perfectly. She has stuff but not any extra. If they don't use it, she gets rid of it. I am somewhere in between. Her husband is the same way. Cleans up as much as she does and cleans up after himself.

Have fun with the kids tomorrow, Carol. Are they opening Val's school?
John borrowed a computerized type metal detector, Sheri. To find the exact location of pipes he buried. It not only alerted to what you found, it would show a picture of it and tell you how deep it was. Horse shoe nail, 6 inches. It was really fun.

I guess we all had messy kids, my daughter could be on hoarders...and she does not clean. I won't even visit her at her house anymore....I have OCD for cleaning(yes, officially confirmed) so I think they gave me the wrong baby at the hospital.

GG wants the detector to go treasure hunting...I told her that if old nails are treasures, then she might get rich lol ~The cheapest one I can find here is $200 plus tax, I might have to get DD to check on amazon or such, that is too much money for a 'childs toy'.

I prepped my back step last night, today it gets it's annual coat of paint. Winter destroys the stain or paint on every step where we live...I keep telling DH that the next step is just getting waste oiled.

Good morning !
Sunnh, can you buy prefab concrete steps ? They are hollow underneath, so are ready/easy to haul and set into place. We had them at our new house in Illinois. If you did I would think they would last better for you.

No, no such steps here...we poured a concrete step 20 years ago but it fell apart so we built the wooden one over it. I'll have a mess to deal with when it is time to take them both apart. egad

I mowed and weed wacked the lawn...somehow I cut my foot as well. Lesson learned on me wearing those foam dollar store shoes.

That is a hard lesson to learn. Rod wears his high top work boots when cutting grass...working outside really. When the girls lived at home and cut grass they both had work boots that they worn when cutting grass as well. One pair would last you a long -long time if you only wore them outside for risky work.

I have work boots but they are so heavy that most times I forgo them for sneakers but the foam shoes were a real stupid idea. DH said that we have to get a new weed wacker soon, the old one is a hit or miss for starting and is falling apart. He said the new one comes with a blade so work boots is a must. He also told me not to worry since it is a longer shaft so I won't cut my leg off, uhmm thanks lol

Heavy rain for today...guess it is a good day to get some baking done.

Try # 2

No, Tina, That was my MIL. She passed away in early June of 2017.

Mom is holding hard to living in her house. My cousin comes into her house 3 days a week and cooks and cares for her.
A lady comes in 2 different days a week and cleans and does laundry for her.
Then there is a lady who is there on the weekends to make her meals.
My sister and brother take care of the rest. I am glad my cousin cares for her -she kinda takes my place and they are good for each other. Especially since my cousin's mom passed away years ago.

Mom will be 88 in December.

My mother turned 89 the 26th of June. She has what is called "mild" dementia but it's more than mild.

Speaking of boots outside, I have been wearing a pair Johnny bought for himself for maybe 10 years and they're still in good shape. They're way too big for me but I love them and wear them every time I go outside. The other day I told Ginger she needs to get a pair of boots for working outside since they have snakes from the lake in the back yard.

Mom "slips" occasionally but for the most part she is doing well for her age.

Yay for having your own boots.

Perhaps you should consider buying Ginger a pair of boots for Christmas this year.

Sweet Dreams everyone. Sleep well.

I guess it is hot everywhere....the humidity is awful as well. The gardens are loving it though.

GB had a 'party' here yesterday and then stayed the night. He doesn't like a lot of people so he is enjoying this Covid thing....he was glad that we weren't allowed to invite anyone. He then had a melt down when we sang Happy birthday because we were told that he didn't want a 'party'...just a cake with garlic fingers haha

No, that was my MIL who lived in an assisted living facility then after a stroke she had to go into a nursing home. She passed away on June of 2017.

My mom is hanging fast and hard to living in her own home. a lady comes in and cleans and does laundry on Monday and Friday. My cousin comes in on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. She does her hygiene and cooks for her. And she takes my place in the family there. A 3 rd lady comes on Saturday and Sunday to cook for her.
My sister does a lot of her errands, and shopping. My brother does the same and also does her financial and medical things. They want her to go to an assisted living but she will probably stay in her home until she is forced to go into a nursing home.

The humidity is killer. We've had plenty of rain so far so that's unusual for us.

Johnny had a an appointment for a scan this morning so we got up early too Junie. Now it's only noon and I need a nap.

Nap..now that sounds good, Sheri. Thanks for the idea.

Sunny..kids and their meltdowns..LOL..He will grow up..Heidi does that as well.

Just a comment: I know I have been complaining about my washer not getting things clean..well today, I washed bed clothes..since they are Navy in color, the DRY areas readily showed up when I was supposed to be putting them into the dryer..... I even put an extra rinse on the cycle!
So frustrating to be sure

I would be better off washing clothes on a washboard.

Ok rant over.

Sorry about the washer Junie, my SIL's is the same....it won't fill to the top. I am so glad that mine does, although I am not happy with the hour long wait for one load.

I have two wash boards hanging in my bathroom....send me your laundry grin

I wish I could send you my laundry maybe then it would get cleaned....I have been wishing all day that I could go back to my house in Illinois and wash my clothes. I would even wash the current owners clothes if I could just wash mine as well.
I get to wait an hour for a load to finish AND they are still are not clean.

Also when I chose high fill ( there is supposed to be 14 inches of water then) the clothes stay in the bottom and the wringer just moves the water around.

I have a washboard as well. It used to hang it in my laundry room when we lived in illinois. Now it is on the wall at the end of the kitchen next to the louver doors that hide my washer & Dryer. But it is very useable. I may yet.

Afternoon all,

I have been awol... hands decided to hurt the last few days, probably should see doc but not going till I have too... the covid is bad here in Az and not going anywhere unless I really have to... am getting a little stir crazy though... even tired of reading and that is really not like me...

I have a new washer too and have to reset it to fill again after it finishes filling the first time for large loads... at least it will fill all the way doing that ... hubby saw it one day on extra large load when it's just us so had to show him how it filled on small and med... 4 inches of water just doesn't work... sometimes new and improved is just dumb and dumber... not saving water if you have to run it twice to get clothes clean or even all wet.... wish I had kept my old ones but wasn't room in truck....so they stayed at the house..

Well going to go find some lunch... after I pay a bill or two... take care all stay safe...
Nana

The arborist came today and we're going to have to cut down a tree. It's not diseased at all but it's around 120 years old and the root system has given up the ghost. I am so sad to have to cut it down. It's going to take away a lot of shade.

I had a long post started and addressed everyone's posts. Then my tablet decided I did not need it, and now it is gone. Sorry everyone.

It is just about noon here. I still have food to put away, well put away more neatly than we do just coming in the door. Repackaging for the freezer and such.

Ah grocery shopping...that is just the beginning of the day.
But then, at least there is food and such in the house.

My SIL just brought me a nice sized bag of sweet corn.
I have already put up 5 bags in the freezer. We will also have some for our supper tonight. Color me thankful and happy.

Sunny. We are not so happy with the weather here in Southern Missouri either. It is much hotter here than we are used to as well. Here the sun is much harsher. We are that much closer to the equator, I guess.

Good morning.
Another hot one, over 100 degrees. I've been wearing a wet t-shirt for awhile. They are heavenly when it's hot because of the cooling affect of evaporation. I ask Teddy for a hug and he begins to then backs off in a hurry to avoid getting wet. For the last couple of days he has allowed me to take his shirt off for wetting down too. You know it's hot when he will wear a wet shirt.

Ladies I am so sorry for the heat...mind you it is not cool here by any stretch of the imagination...but if I stay inside, all is well. I will have to go out and pick berries and water tonight if it does not rain.

Oh! I so wish I had a clothes line ! I surely miss having one. I used to put my blouses & shirts on hangers then hook the hanger on the clothes line, then use a clothes pin to affix the hanger to the clothes line. I had no mis-shappen shirts that way. BUT the fresh smell of my clothes was heavenly!!

I guess we have been busy.

Today I am going to tackle all my windows again....the pollen is so heavy that it is stuck to the screens. I have never seen windows get so dirty in just over a month. It took me over 4 hrs to clean them all just 6 weeks ago.

I know Tina. It was on the news here. They are getting a bit more serious here as well.
Bad news is that a person in a county close to us has gotten the covid virus for a second time. I would like to think that that alone would make believers out of the sceptics.

Well, a few counties dropped the mandatory mask orders early. My county wwas one of them. We had few cases and low death rates when they dropped masks of only 98 deaths out of about 2 thousand cases. That was on May 8. I have watched it climb to a current 307 out of 19,402 cases. And I believe the death counts are under counted everywhere.
Covid causes more than just lung problems. It also causes blood clots so when people die of heart attacks or strokes it is written that way instead of the main cause being covid 19. Even people who recover don't recover immediately from the damage it does to the immune system or kidney problems, nerve damage. We don't know everything it can do to us. It is one scary disease.

The news also stated that a baby in Texas was born with Covid.....passed from the pregnant mom. How scary.

I think we will be dealing with this for a long time to come...even with a vaccine.

Anyone have any advice for me? It seems that I have caught a skunk in my trap this morning, thankfully it was set at the far end of my property.....but it is still on my property. nervous

Leave the skunk where it is until Cary gets home with his truck. cover the trap with a cloth of some sort, put in the truck bed and drive it further into the boonies. Put the covered trap on the ground. We released the wire holding the trap door shut with a string from the bed of the truck. Only one time did we have to show the critter how to get out.

I called the DNR ranger office, they told me to cover the trap as well Tina. I covered it(walking like a child being a ghost for Halloween), waited 30 minutes then slowly opened the door with a bungee cord. It gave a quick scent/pee and I then ran for all I could run. lol I'm not sure if it is still in the trap or not. I'll take a drive by it later on the ATV in case it is still there....it was a young skunk.

The Exterminator wanted $160 to come and release it. I can buy a lot of tomato juice to cover myself for that haha

Rometmber our Dog, Dante came back in the house at 1 in the morning, and luckily I had a very large can of tom juice in the house...I made work but 2 would have been nicer.

The trap is open but I can't see because the heavy blanket has it very dark inside. He'll leave tonight if he is still there...I am hoping.

The rangers office said to use a mixture of peroxide, baking soda and liquid soap. I wouldn't want to put peroxide on hair????? I might use that mixture to clean the cage though.

Well glad I never had to do that for a skunking problem...crossing fingers, I have a feeling my silly dog would go after one if he saw it... he would think it's a cat and he detests cats... people next door have a cat and they let it roam , it tried to come over fence our yard and Milo practically climbed block fence to chase it... they keep it inside now.... don't know why people let them out anyway... to many predators here... we get coyotes wandering down the streets.... not to mention bobcats and other creatures... hubby always takes a big walking stick when he walks him .. We are over 100 today, hubby has gotten up early to do the morning walks.. like at 530. and then evening ones after 8 and it's still pretty warm then... supposed to cool down some later this week..wish it would rain... supposed to be the rainy season but not much of that here...

Well better go start the leftovers dinner warming up... maybe someday will learn how to cook for two... but at least only have to make meals a couple times a week.. glad hubby will eat leftovers, my bil won't eat leftovers , they waste more food... she can't even freeze it and save for later ... he won't eat it... she spoiled him rotten, I am sure as a family of 4 boys and a single mother he ate leftovers.... or didn't eat...

Well have a good evening all . sure glad we have ac and it works... stay well all!
Nana

The skunk is still in the cage and it is 10:00 pm here.

Nana, leftovers are filling to any person....especially if they know what it is like to go hungry.

That is probably why your BIL will not eat leftovers..he had to do it as a chi!d.
My dad was like that about leftovers. Mom would either make whatever was leftover into another type of dish, or put it into the fridge without a cover so it would dry out, then she would discard it.

I serve leftovers if we have them...i should learn how to turn my leftovers into different dishes...I miss some of those that momma would make.

Sunny, what were you trying to catch in the trap? Thankfully I've never seen a skunk around here. We do have coyotes and bobcats. Maybe they keep the skunks scared away.

Sheri, I was trying to catch raccoons. I caught a few plus a few of the neighbors cats and then the skunk.

The skunk was gone this morning so all is well....I will set the trap on a wooden bench this time, hopefully the skunks won't climb. If they do, it will be DH's turn next for the catch and release lol

I just cut back the lupines and bleeding hearts....the spring flowers are done blooming.

Yes Tina, I guess if we all took our temps, put them in a barrel, mixed them up and divided for us all, we would all have much more pleasant weather.

Sweet Dreams..sleep well my friends. Plenty of stormy sounds going on here.....

I hope to get rain this fall, lots of rain. But until then I'll have to live with heat.
