We had a nice Sunday..we went to my oldest daughter's house for Brunch, and then when we came home, our youngest called Rod and then she sent us supper from Applebees, (Rod picked the restaurant). So nice I benefited by association, huh???

it was hot and humid here as well.

Good night everyone..sweet, dreams

Not raining now..But it is supposed to later. Rod said around 1 or so. I am guessing I may only have to drive home in the rain... Mother nature knows that I hate to drive in the rain.

Got all my cards ordered last night......all up until April. .well except for Christmas.

Kids may not get Halloween cards this year, though.

Morning all,

Well got bills paid and checkbook balanced finally.. don't know why I write in a payment I didn't make and didn't have to make... at least it was in my own favor... better than spending money I don't have I guess... it's hot here already... 87* and supposed to hit 97*, at least with the patio ceiling fans it is comfortable out there in the late afternoon..

I need to dust and vacuum today... at least it's on my list … and mop my tile floors... hopefully my hands will hold up for that after the Tylenol takes effect.. it's no fun having aching fingers all the time.. but it takes my mind off my ankle... getting old isn't for sissies! LOL!

Well off to accomplish something .. have a good day all , stay well and healthy.

Nana

Sherri I gave up dusting years ago. I've always hated it so I decided to not to do. I might run over stuff with a damp cloth once in a while but I don't move everything like I used too. It just comes back anyway.

We were supposed to get rain today too but it didn't happen. It did cool form 90 to 73° in a short amount of time though so that was very nice.

I pretty much have up dusting furniture with any regularity myself. I used to weekly. But even if so dusted for a weekend BBQ party on Thursday, by Saturday it looked like I had not touched anything...So since "the farm", I just dust when I get the time..real or perceived time. LOL

I would Love to know what to clean my wood floors with though. I have tried endyst, it makes this surface slick like p!edge woukd. Ammonia or vinegar and water, just makes the floor dull. Right now I have a cleaner called Bona. .not real happy with it either. I just want a shiny but not slick floor.

There are cleaners meant just for wood floors, Carol. I think one's called something like Mre, Meyers or something. It is even made for a swiffer wet jet. People I've known with hardwood floors swore by it.
Sweet dreams all.

I woke up today to find GG's two chicks 'gone'....and a sickly looking raccoon sitting in front of the cage. I am declaring war on every animal in my yard. I called DH and told him that I am ordering a 'live animal trap'...and then I am taking care of business. Rapid raccoons are a danger to everyone and everything.

I have never in my life seen the amount of wildlife roaming like this year. I know I live in a rural area but it is getting ridiculous....and no bear traps are being set for home owners anymore I was told. I guess once again people will do what needs to be done then.

Oh, I am so sorry, Sunny. I hope you get that racoon before any other animal or person gets hurt. Sometimes I wonder what this world is coming to. I mainly just shake my head and am glad that I am as o!d as I am. Hopefully I will not have to see what will become of it all.

DH is picking up a 'live trap' on his way home from work...he said he passes a hardware store about a two hr drive from here.

The bear tore the lid right off the neighbor's garbage can last night....and it was one of those big heavy duty ones. That was $200 down the drain for him.

Sunny, I bought a spray called Critter Control in an attempt to keep bunnies, squirrels and deer out of the garden and away from the sunflowers. So far so good. Wonder if it will work for the raccoon. Doesn't seem to bother our cats. Just occurred to me that the squirrels haven't been bothering the bird feeders either. Wonder if you spray Lysol or some type of disinfectant spray all over your trash cans if the bears won't like it. I'd be scared to death to go outside if I thought bears were in my yard.

I ordered groceries 3 times but our stores are stocked and open regular hours now.

We eat a lot of apples and bananas around here. Blueberries in season and oranges once in a while. Not much other fruit. We have 2 plum trees and one pear tree but the deer or neighbors beat me every year so I don't get much fruit from. I didn't get one plum this year but I'm not sure they even made. The pears are bitter for some reason so the deer can have them. I don't know much about apple trees but the apples have always been bitter.

I have a fig tree that produces cardboard tasting figs, even when they are ripe. The mother tree produced lovely sweet figs. It was a cutting.

My chickens are 'gone' as well this morning. I have been crying for the last half hour....I shouldn't have made pets out of them. How a raccoon can tear apart a wire cage baffles me. I know most people would think I am crazy but they were a highlight to my every morning. tears

Oh my goodness...I am so sorry! Oh! I just thought is there an agency you could call out to trap the recoon.?? You should be able to have your chickens. And yes, I too am surprised that the wire was peneratable.

Drinking coffee ☕ now.

No, there is no agency...we don't even have so much as a dog catcher anymore. I set up the new trap DH bought last night but it didn't do any good. It tore through the chicken wire......it was devastating

Neighbors or not.....I declare war on all nuisance wildlife in my yard.

I agree..it is your property, and your livestock...and on top of that, you are not in the middle of town. Good for you !.. But now you will have the expense of a new co-op and new chickens....so sorry.

Honestly, after this....I might not even get any more next year.

We are awaiting our thunderstorm at the moment. I hope it isn't as bad as they are putting the warnings up for. We got a bad one last night...it sure gave the new eavestrough's a testing.

GG is outside taking pics with my phone again...I hope she gets some good ones of the flowers so I can share a few.

I guess it would be simpler and less risky to not have chickens..But I bet you will miss the eggs...if course you could always find a farmer that sells fresh eggs.

Our rains are beginning again tomorrow. I sure wish I could get more mulch today so as to finish the job. Perhaps I am done... why

Oh Lord no ! We went thru the drive thru. The workers had masks and gloves. We brought it home and ate here. It was bad enough we had to go into Lowe's..they will not do curb side pick up for mulch.

Sorry I scared you.

Tina, have you been out anywhere at all since this pandemic started? I have been but for curbside pick ups, once to a local grocery store and once to a bank to set up phone banking. It was a scary outing, people just refuse to social distance it seems. I'll be so glad when our local pharmacy opens...it is where I buy most of my gifts for people. They don't have online shopping set up so it's a pain to try and order beyond the necessities.

I am glad you got your mulch Junie...how is everything coming along with the landscaping?

I am hoping to get the grass or I should say weeds cut today. It has gone out of control with all this heat...my yard is a mess.

I need to get a battery for my watch. The jewelry store where I have to go to get it is small but I am hoping there is not a run on jewelry at this time.

I could really use another bag of mulch, but I will rake grass for the rest of the line.

I wil! Add to the mulch next year. Then from then on I can add as I need to. I do wish roundup was not a contact herbicide. Sad thing is I lost 2 of my 3 new blackberry plants that I had added. Rod's weed eater got one, but the 2nd one just died.
Good news is after this next rain, I should have lots of berries to pick.

I think I wil! See if there is some grass to rake tonight.

Yay for berries, sorry about the loss of the two plants though. Honestly Junie, one could always use another bag of mulch...no matter how many bags you buy lol

I got the sit down mowing and the hand mowing done...I am trying to convince myself to start the weed eater in a few. I really need a big one with a blade for the main ditch, it is too long and steep to mow and too grown in for a string trimmer. The deer flies are awful but the mosquitoes are hiding.

My rugosa rose bush is so overgrown, I cut it back but now I can't get in between it with my hands to trim the grass. I wonder if vinegar sprayed around it would kill the shrub or just the grass????

I don't think I would try vinegar. Can you trim back the Bush some so the grass could be killed. And is it really weeds , because if so, you could try to buy a small amount of weed and feed then next year put landscaping paper over the grassy area there ( or a closed black garbage bag) with mulch over top.

I've never tried vinegar for killing grass. Did you try it?

I'm going out tomorrow to pick blackberries maybe. I noticed yesterday that they're just about ready. The deer usually have them by now so I guess the deer repellant is working.

I keep saying I'd love to have chickens but don't want the work that goes with them. As long as I can buy farm grown eggs I'm gonna try and hold off.

Do you guys like rutabagas enough to grow them?

Rutabagas... they are sorta like a turnip, right ? And no, I do not like them well enough to grow them...But if you served them to me, I would eat them.

Sheri, I plant turnips but they need to be planted from seedlings here...sadly there were none this year. I could not find any beet seeds either...so I will have to buy a bag of beets to make a few bottles of pickled ones for Winter.

I have been getting calls all week to sell beef and pork this Fall. I am not allowed, I can sell to a butcher who can 'test' the meat but not to the public.....it is hard to make people understand how things have changed over the past years.

Yay! I'm glad they plan on doing something with your bear. They do move them from peopled areas here. But it's kind of sad. Like deer crossing signs. It's not the deer , it's the road crossing the forest..
My groceries are magically appearing today!

I checked...only two today.

My tame strawberries are going to be small this year, well water isn't the same as rain water...the wild ones burned up from the heat in the fields.

OMG smile I should have checked in here earlier because it's 7:49 PM and just finished storming and NO I didn't remember to check the blackberries. I forgot to go to the library too. And yes, I do have these things on my list BUT I don't know where I put my list. I need to back up and reorganize.

I'm sorry, Sheri. I tried.
Here they actually grow strawberries in vast fields under shade cloth for the heat. And a few other vegetables as well.

No, they have bread and molasses inside of it....it works like a small animal trap. They walk in to the end to get the food, they step on a plate and it slams the door shut behind them. It is a pretty cool set up...I just hope it works.

The shade cloth is usually on wires and can be pulled back (like a horizontal curtain) on non sunny days. Yes, rain goes right through although we get very little rain when our sun shines. Our berries are usually laid out with drip lines and weedcloth. And there's also different ways to discourage birds and other foraging critters.

I'm not so sure, Carol. I didn't need that when I lived back east. It is a desert SW thing. It can be too much sun for somethings sometimes.
Sweet dreams all.

I have used bird netting before but the shade cloth sounds awesome...a lot of work but one does what they need too. I am learning so much from you Tina thumbup It is so cool.

Still no bear this morning...he might have moved on already.

It rained all night and it was much needed....well water and rain water are so different minerally.

Good morning.

I was awakened this morning around 4 am by the weather radio...telling of an impending flash flood. I have been awake since. Coffee should help.

There are parts of the country expecting lots of rain and possible floods, Sunny. I'm not sure exactly where Carol is but it's obviously in one of those areas. Keep safe, Carol!
I'm sorry you haven't caught your bear, Sunny. How long will they leave the trap? Did the bear do any damage to your garden"

Carol lives in Southern Missouri just above the boot heel. Between Cape Giaradeau and Sikeston. Just north of where I live between Scott city and Cape it floods often. But if it rained a lot, it did not do so here.

The way I heard it is that it doesn't matter how much rain you got as how much fell further up stream. Do stay safe, Carol.
We all live with possible disasters. So much to plan for.

Yes I have heard that as well, Tina. We live really close to the river. Cape Giaradeau has flood gates along the river right next to the old part of Cape. They are closed more here than they are open.

If I am not around tomorrow for awhile, I have a Drs. Appt..

I may be back in yet tonight, but I will say goodnight now. Sleep well, and stay safe.

Thank you all. I checked the blackberries and they are still bitter. A few more days needed.

The last 2 years I've put shade cloth over the tomato plants. They were getting scorched. I ordered it from Amazon.

No bear yet Tina, I only get the cage for a week.

I did catch a barn cat this morning in my raccoon trap though lol He enjoyed the sardines but not the 'waiting to be let out' part.

It is Canada Day here...sadly there is absolutely nothing going on because of Covid though. Oh well, GG will wear her special t shirt and DH has the day off as well. We'll put the day to good use with chores and the 'to do' list.

Happy Canada Day,

Wish I could cool off.. hubby decided to turn off ac last night and when I got up it was just to hot... humidity is coming in for our rainy season so UGH! need the rain but so far none happening..
Its bedding laundry day so washing sheets and remaking beds... even doing the mattress covers... must be bored..LOL!

Did do my office chores.. redid calendars, made a budget, wrote in auto crap in checkbook... hope I caught them all.. so of the abbreviations the bank uses are mystifiying...

Az finally went back to masks in stores are mandatory but people here just don't... here we go again.... hospital if full here again and they are sending people on to Tucson... crazy, lady next door in her middle 70's was exposed and had a test but she is ok so far... her sil is working and someone he worked with has it.. so could have brought it home... getting to close...

Well better go change washer loads... gotta make more poop bags for Milo and hubby's walks... that should take a while have lots of grocery sacks to use.... take care all and stay well...

My DH hardly ever turns the fan on in our bedroom. I can't come in late and do it in the dark as there is one switch. So you would have to pul! The correct chain to turn off the light..Then you could go over and flip the switch for the fan to come on....too risky for me to turn off the wrong thing...so I just roast.

We are home and we had Tacos for supper

Thanks for the Canada Day comments...it sure was a quiet one.

It is hot and sticky outside, chances of showers every day for a week here. We need the moisture but it is impossible to get anything done.

I forgot to buy pectin to make strawberry jelly(this not going into stores is making me so forgetful). I hope I can get it at the local store....I need to call and see if they have it. I need to save every berry I get for preserving.

Good morning.

We are having a lot of rain as well...as much as this makes things hard, really it is preferable to the terribly hot weather I think we will be having when it stops raining here.

I'll pick you some pectin up when I am at the store today, Sunny.. bow

Well, I didn't get you pectin, so I will not be over, sorry. All they had was pectin for low or no sugar recipes. I have never heard of such as that. I bought 1 box, anyway..gonna give it a try with sugar...I hope you have better luck. I missed your post, Tina..But if you are in need I can send you 3 pkgs...

No yeast at my local store Tina but they did have some liquid pectin surprisingly. Carol, I never heard of no sugar pectin...does that mean it uses artificial sweetening instead?

I put in my grocery order for tomorrow but was told that I could pick it up in an hour since they were not busy. They only had one box of pectin, thankfully it has two pouches inside...so some jam will be made tomorrow, hopefully.

It has Fructose as the first ingredient...I don't know what they are saying..I do know it is sweeter than sugar. I will have to check when I open the box...surely the directions will explain more.

I think it is naptime...towels are in the dryer.

Oh, Thank you for the offer, Carol. I actually have yeast in my freezer. An one pound package and a jar of the stuff. I was just teasing.
My masks that I ordered a week or so ago are in the mail. That means I will have 30 cloth masks and my N95 masks for the next year. or so. I see that Texas is now requiring them and shut their bars and restaurants back down. I feel bad for them and Arizona and Florida as well.
I will be happy to have those masks.

I know you were teasing, Tina..I just thought to offer. We are all having a hard time finding stuff, and it is good to help.

Masks..I have several. One with a filter sewn in...2 that I can wear with or w/o a filter. I have 2 more of those and a pkg of filters coming to me yet. And oh, I have a set of the blue paper masks that my niece, a Nurse Practitioner, recommends. I wish I had some N95.. But I will wear the masks with filters to the places I worry about the most. I am glad you will have all of yours soon. We all need to be safe, for sure.

I just heard that starting tomorrow, St. Louis will require masks.

The N95's I bought for smoke in case of fires. I find them very hard to breath through. I really have to suck in hard to get a full breathe. I could not wear them and do a doctor's or nurse's job. I'd faint. But breathing smoke and ash is a problem too, so....
The quilting fabric masks are easier to breath through. There are lots of filters you can use in masks with pockets sewn in. Hepa filters for vacuums is one. Coffee filters are another. But I heard also the blue papers shop towels that are sold at places like Lowes are good if cut to fit. All of them need to be cut to fit. But I've been told the plain double-layer fabric will suit my needs as I'm not spending time indoors with crowds.

My boughten filters are something called PM2.5
I have no idea what the homemade ones my sister sent are made from..But not the blue shop towels or coffee filters.

I found out that I get to have most of the kids next week. That will be a fun day.

Night night 🌙 everyone. Sleep well.

Well, the next one, 2598, won't let me in. Must be a hinky thing happening somewhere. Maybe your spammer.
I am going out today to the bank. After Tangela brings up my groceries. I will be the first time I've been past my mailbox since March first.
