Hi all, DH has to make a run for supplies this morning so I get to follow, only so that I can go to the bank and give the government all our extra money for land taxes. egad

Oh well, at least I get to pick up my seed potatoes today.

I didn't get the kind I wanted...almost every store was out of seed potatoes, even the coop feed store. I found one store that had one bag of red left and three bags of russets, thankfully I only needed two bags but they are a different variety than what I usually get. This pandemic has everyone trying to grow gardens....I hope they fair out well.

The line ups to get in places was ridiculous. I didn't go to any big stores....it's not worth the trouble.

Well, at least you got potatoes to plant...I consider that a win !

Oh my about the stores...does one have to stay 6 ft apart while in line ???

I have only been out twice...once to lowes, and it was so early, no one was around much...and to a curb side pick up to get groceries..so I have yet to experience lines....oh my ! I am not looking forward to that...

Good afternoon. I am late again today. No particular reason.
Land taxes. I just did that last month. On the other hand, seed potatoes! Yay!
I would like to say that if you have vote by mail options apply to do that soon. Voting in November could get tricky. If half or more of the country is still holed up (or again) you may not want to go wait in lines. And a lot of polling places might be closed for lack of willing workers so they will condense the ones they can open. With fewer poll workers and long, long lines of voters.
That's what happened in Wisconsin for their primaries a month or so ago. A lot of their polls weren't open due to staffing issues. So the ones that were open were crowded with 3 or more hour waits. Last count I heard was 57 Covid cases among voters and staffers and rising. Then it fell off my news. .
So do this if you can.

I hope everyone can vote my mail Tina.

Yes, there are only so many people allowed in a store at a time(usually 10) so all the rest must wait outside 6 ft apart until it is your turn. I have no desire to wait over an hour to go to a big store. The line up was as long as the parking lot.

Tina, that was for everything. I had to wait in line to go to the bank(I had checks that had to be cashed that were here for months), then wait to pick up my door, then wait to get the potato starts. It took longer to wait in line then to get the actual shopping done. It took 4 hours to get less than an hour of picking up items. I gave up....the necessities were bought and the rest can wait.

People were out as a family with kids, no gloves, masks or anything...I was shocked.

We went to Lowe's today. Rod needed some supplies and so I went flower shopping.

Some people had on masks including us, but many families were out just enjoying the day. And some were social distancing and some were not. I got too close to someone at one point but it was unavoidable. There were none of the flowers I wanted..lady said they were just coming in...and all of the herbs I wanted were gone. So glad to be home and showered. I do have the last of my soil though.

I will let things sit until tomorrow and then put them out.

Pictures or it didn't happen. Really, I'd like to see your birdhouse.
I was thinking of getting out to my restaurant supply place soon but the more I hear the stories of shopping trials from online friends the less fun it sounds. I think I will just continue on at home and sort through my food stores here.
My county dropped the requirements for masks. So it's optional. But still required for many stores. They would have to make masks against the law for me not to wear one. And then I won't go out at all.

What does Tangela say about restrictions where you live, Tina ?..a safe trip out might be good for you.

Yes, I would like to see photos as well, Sunny.

I will have to see about photos myself...perhaps I can try to post some after I plant what I had bought today.

Yup, photos tomorrow. I put it on an old 4X4 post...it should be taller but it was all that I had to use. Oh well, once I get flowers in it...it will look better.

I am heading out to my local grocery store tomorrow....the delivery system is getting ridiculous with swapping all name brand for store brand and veggies and fruit that go bad in a day or two. We have no active cases in our province and are over two weeks with no new cases but I'll still cover and glove up.

Tina, even a drive around town might be a good break for you...or get Tangela to make the run for you.

My restaurant supply store is where I buy things like 20# bags of sugar and large supplies of trash bags and paper plates, etc. I haven't been for a couple of years now as it is out of my way since I don't have to drive Teddy to school anymore. They were busy rearranging their store when I last went in so I couldn't find everything I wanted that trip.
I am kind of eager to see how the pandemic has affected them. But it may be kind of disheartening to find them depleted too.If I go, I will go with Tangela for sure.
But I am not itching to go out in general. I mostly want to go and show Tangela what I want there.

If you can go out safely, Tina, I think you might be happy you did. I know I was...even if I felt the need to shower and wash my clothes when I came home...both times.

DH has plenty of farm work until the next job starts in a week thumbup

Grocery shopping was a headache but it was cheaper since I found out if you put substitutions allowed....he is putting the more expensive stuff in.

This is the birdhouse, painted and glazed. You can put flowers in on either side.

Beautiful bird house/planterSunny.! Seeing it makes me smile. Pretty colors as well.

Sounds like the grocery store is taking advantage of it's customers. Glad you were able to go out and get your own groceries.

Sounds like with the rains that are predicted we may do our grilling in Honor of Memorial day on Saturday instead of Monday...

Nice birdhouse/planter, Sunny. Now I want to see it planted. I cannot grow anything like that in my area unless I could water it three or more times a day. Plants would fry.

Yup, you'll see it planted in a few weeks Tina, it gets morning sun then late afternoon shade in that corner.....every shrub that I've planted in that spot gets destroyed from shoveling the roof off, even with bracing. So from now on a birdhouse will be put out from spring to Fall.

Grill some for me Junie.

After two weeks of no Covid cases we have one. A 6 yr old boy who started back at a day care on Monday.....and so it goes. There is going to be a lot of local cases once again(the child lives a 15 minute drive from DD's).

We are planting a field of oats today...it will be a busy but productive day. thumbup

Good morning.

Are the oats to sell, or for food for your animals, Sunny? I too hope your field does well.

Thanks, they are oats for feed for the horses...then we keep the extra to reseed again for next year. People have been calling all week because they can't find oats to seed their fields this year. We have none to spare sadly.

Today I got my veggie plants on the same trip to make a drop off at DD's. I got cherry tomatoes, cukes, peppers, lettuce and cauliflower along with marigolds and lobelias(GG's flower request). You call in your order, they pack it up and bring it out to your car. thumbup

I hope people learn to plan ahead from this as you and your DH do, Sunny 🌞.

Yay for veggie and flower plants. I wish we had that service here. Even the stores with curbside pickup will not being out plants.

I planted out my last flower for this year...well Unless another one jumps into my hands...lol and I had picked up just enough soil to finish filling my pots..Carol is happy.

Junie, we plan ahead due to finances....we just can't afford to go out and buy what we need like others do.

I didn't get any flowers for myself except the marigolds for the garden but I'll get a few petunias to put in the birdhouse in two weeks. I was just worried that the veggie plants would be all bought out by the time the frost is over. It is a family run nursery, so that is why they do curbside...they are scared that if one gets sick they'll have to close and quarantine.

Well still planning ahead is a good thing, Sunny. And people know you have things or else they would not call you asking if you had extras.....The reason you plan is not really at issue...things are easier for you because you do plan. I think that is something to be happy/ proud about.

You have lots of time to treat yourself to a flower or 2. Besides they may run a sale.

Love the birdhouse Sunny. We had storm that blew over a tree and blew my vegetable garden to who knows where.

I think haying season is almost over here for the winter. Fall through spring is the feed grasses season. Some of it doesn't feed any domestic animals. The farms are owned by the Saudi's, etc, for export.
I'm so gglad you've got your veggies, Sunny, Planning us everything.
Do either of you know the plans for your schools this coming year? Last I heard my state was looking at a July opening but that may have changed. It was weeks ago.

Thanks gals kissie

I hope you can replant Sheri...that is so discouraging.

Tina, we are on hold here for September for the new school year. We still have two hrs of online/project work at home until the third week of June to complete the year. They are working on a new plan in case school is closed longer. If so, we will have special booklets and such sent to us with plans to open in January of 2021.

Your seasons are so different Tina, here we are just prepping for hay, oats, barley and such. Wheat is not a main crop here though because our seasons are so short.

We are putting out the oat seed today, it was too windy yesterday.

I am sorry I didn't see your post last night, Sheri. That's awful about your garden. Hurricane Arthur has a lot to be answered for.
Yes, our temps are very different than yours,Sunny. Fall, winter and spring bring out the cool crops like potatoes, onion and leafy greens.spring, long summer and Fall bring out bring our warmer crops like beans cukes and various fruits. Although if I grow tomatoes here they will burn on the bush and slow to a stop in summer if I don't throw shade cloth over them. I can grow squashes of different varieties year round. And citrus etc.
The only down side I can think of our weather is that it attracts lots of people. People that need housing and they are using up farmland for the housing. We have 39.5M+ living here in California. That is a couple more million than in all of Canada.
I can remember when the area was filled with orange and citrus groves. And olive groves and grape vineyards. Huge herds of sheep were brought in to clear the land around to mitigate fire danger. I miss it all.

Mmm, beef in the crock with onions, carrots and potatoes. After your meal the leftovers are great with a dusting of chili powder and shredded for burritos or tacos. My favorite use for it.

Pork chops for supper here....I need something quick and easy, DH is finishing up the rolling of the field at the minute....we look like we have been in a 'dust bowl' lol

Tina, is it still rural where you live or has that grown a lot as well over the years?

Sadly the only leftovers were carrots and gravy. Which is sad..Rod loved the gravy. He said he even liked the beef roast..he normally does not care for roast....so now I need to see what I can come up with to serve the rest of the gravy with.

I have some pork chops in the freezer..perhaps I need to make them next...

Well, l live well out of town and the basic rule is you can't build on less than 5 acres where I live here. So it is most;y horse properties around me. Not growing farms. With a few emus, llamas and such around. It's not farmed, There is barely enough water for people, pets and fruit trees that people have. Other valleys near me grow apple trees and cherry orchards. Those areas are not so desert-y as mine. Mpst of my grasses are drying up now.

We had that 5 acres thing back when we.loved out in the country. But too many developers wanted to sell smaller lots so it was changed to 2 screws when out of town/ city limits. I have no idea what the rules are here in Missouri.

Sorry about the water issue. That can be tough.

At least you do not get freezing winters , right, Tina. ??

Tina, I don't know how many years ago you bought up a bunch of different types of seeds and planted them for erosion control. Did that work out? Also you were making a cross country trip and were stopping by. Is that still on the bucket list?

How do you guys cook pork chops. Unless I do mine in the oven they're always, and I mean always, tough.

Pork chops:
My thin breakfast chops, I fry.

Regular chops I often brown and then put them in my slow cooker. Then I mix a can of cream of mushroom soup with 3/4 can of milk.. I have also added a pkg of dry onion soup mix.

Really I usually mix all of the above and pour it over the chops. Then cook it all day or until chips are tender (falling apart)

You can mix rice with the soups as well.

I guess then Tina you are as rural as rural gets in California thumbup

Sheri, I bake my porkchops on low heat in the oven...sometimes I put them in a casserole dish and smother them with applesauce and slow bake them that way.

The only rule where I live is that you have to have one full acre to build a house.

Well, that rule is only for this area. You get across the freeways and the houses are much closer. They didn't want to see anyone crunched together over here, like the campground next door that has turned into a trailer park over the years.Up the road from me is another campground where they beefed up the fencing with razor wire and moved in around 20 trailers and started removing the homeless from town who are covid positive to recover. It looks like a prison. And the patients are not free to leave on their own. So far it has worked out without any notable problems.
This is the first year of not going to the cemetery in May. Maybe we can make it next month for John's birthday. Teddy loves the ducks in the lake.

Yes, I think not many people are going many places, Tina...I really do not pay much attention to it all as if this pandemic would not have happened, Rod would still be wanting to stay home. The next time that we got " home" I will be going to the cemetery to "see" my family there.

It is starting to be overcast here now. I will say the house is beginning to be too warm to be comfortable. Just like Illinois was..you have a jacket or more in one day and are roasting the next day.

The weather is just as strange here...it is freezing today then it is calling for extreme heat later in the week with a chance of severe thunder storms.

Oh well, we can't change the weather so we will all wait it out for nicer days.

We had a very strong rain storm here complete with thunder...now the rain has stopped and the thunder is in the distance. For now I think we can settle down and sleep peacefully.

Fresh biscuits here this morning......they are DH's 'go to' when he has to get up very early.

Do you use a regular bread recipe for a butter braid, Junie, I have tasted one before and it was sweeter than normal....like honey was in it.

Today is a clean and mop day....followed by a 'catch up on laundry' before the rain as well lol

I love bakery items with honey. There used to be a sliced bread available made with honey. Then they began using fake flavoring and lost me as a customer.
Good morning. I have no plans today. .

I was in after Sunny, and posted...honest I was...let me try again.

Good Morning, and Happy Memorial Day !.

Sunny. I personally buy a braid. It is the "Butter Braid". Brand. You buy it frozen and you set it out on your counter for 8-12 hours to thaw and double in size and then bake it. It has a packet of glaze to use when cools as well.

I do have braid recipes. in the recipes that I have you use puff pastry for the bread part, so no sweeter than usual.
The filling does really not have much sugar in it either. Perhaps a braid with a potesa dough would be sweeter, depending on the type of recipe.

I wasn't sure if one said Happy Memorial Day or not so I awaited someone else to do so first. lol

GG is getting on my last nerve today, she was outside and waited until I mopped myself out the door....then ran through the house with her dirty shoes on the wet floors. If I had done that as a child I'd be wearing the mop handle on my shins.

Well, I didn't know if one said that either, Sunny, given the reason for the holiday but I did anyway..I wanted you all to know I was aware of the day.

Oh my.....yes, I would have been in pain as well, if I had done that, back in the day, Sunny. And she is not new to your routine, she should have known better. Did you make her clean up after herself ? Perhaps doing that would help her "remember" not to do that in future.

She knew better but did it anyway. She cleaned it up and made more of a mess in the end.....sometimes I wonder if the old way of bringing up kids is better than this new 'talk only' routine.

She is really being a handful today...she is punished right now for refusing to do her schoolwork. How do I punish her? I make her do twice as much of it lol

That is so true about how we have to raise kids. The old way was.much better. First, there is a difference between a spanking or a slap on the face and a beating or mistreatment.

My girls are 6 years apart. My oldest got spankings and was made to behave...she was a well mannered polite girl and is the same today. My youngest was raised at the beginning of this " new" way of raising kids, where if the child went to school with whatever happened at home (truth or not) the parents went to jail. She was rude, smart mouthed and generally an honery child who thought nothing of smarting back to me. She is a bit better today, but still nothing like her older sister. I am so glad I not raising children today.

I think you came up with the perfect punishment ! Good for you.

Ok yesterday and now this morning, I post..but when I come back in it is not here... it is me or what ??

Anyway, it was supposed to be overcast all day, but was sunny until a few moments ago.
We went out to get my blood tests, I had my shower and I am now drinking coffee and eating butter braid.

I set up my air conditioner Tina, I just got back from the barn, so my animals are hydrated.....my turn next with a shower and orange juice.

Junie, my posts go missing often. I noticed that I forget to hit 'post reply' lol

Good Afternoon all,

I am in to finish paying bills and balancing check book... it did so that's always good, now to finish remaking my table cloths smaller.. have a about 6 of them that are to big for the table we use here, they were from the one we had in Az before we went to Colo.. used plastic ones there with the kids but now I like would like to use my real ones again... so am going to cut and sew today... there will be enough leftover from them to make runners to go on my island in the kitchen.
I really need to do my filing too.. I should do it as I go but it just piles up.. will try and make myself to it after I sew will have card table up so can use it to sort stuff on... better than the floor with my old body that doesn't like to get up after getting down... LOL!

Well have a good day all... stay well and safe.
Nana

Yes about kids and tablecloths. I use plastic place mats for the kids I have cloth ones for " nice". I have several holiday cloth table cloths. But since I rarely have need for them, they are on shelves in the basement.
Busy is good, Nana. You take care and stay safe as well.

Yes, I try to look at the rain here that way too, Sunny. Well that an it is water for my plants. I put my front porch flower pot, and Valarie' s lilac bush out at the edge of the porch so that they can get rained on as well. Less watering for Carol.

Tina, so you get many biting flies there? They were awful this morning.

Junie, fresh water for plants is a good thing.

I just made a pan of brownies...I hope they last until tomorrow lol

My..so sorry for the flies....

Yes fresh water is good..it is a pain to fix up my water system to be able to water plants with water that does not have softener in it.

I am making tapioca pudding now it will be dessert for tonight. Brownies do not live more than a day here, Sunny..good luck !

Brownies and tapioca both sound good, ladies.
I was interested in watching the space launch but it has been scrapped until Saturday now. Too much weather.

Well the disaster part is possible. If I remember right, , they said he could afford to build 3 rockets..and the first 2 blew up in testing. The 3rd was ok in testing...that is the model they are using.

Three weeks ago we were under a snow fall warning and today we are under an extreme heat/thunderstorm warning. touched

I don't have much planned for today. I have to do the barn work in an hour then call in an order at the pharmacy and hardware store for tomorrow. Curbside pick up is a normal routine now. It does make it easier when I have to take GG with me.

DD ordered GG a new tablet last night(the battery died completely in hers and we couldn't find a replacement)....she was so excited that she couldn't fall asleep lol

Yep, the weather is crazy. Welcome to my world Sunny.

Apparently we are making bread. Then I need to change over DH's closet, and make my order for groceries. I was going to go to the bank (one needs to make an appt.) but I guess that will have to wait until tomorrow.

Tonight I may order cards. I found a place I can order from and have them mailed to the house...I used to buy Hallmark from the Dollar Tree, but these are not much more, and I will not have to go into a store. I have just about depleted my extras that I keep onhand.

I hope you can find cards that you like Junie, I remember before one could buy mixed boxes of cards.....that was a smart idea.

I went for a quick run to the grocery store while my mother was 'outside visiting' with Madi. I loaded up on milk and fresh vegetables and fruit.....I limit my trips to once every 10 days. The delivery grocery service was too expensive with them substituting name brand items and worthless money wise with the too ripe fruit. The only thing name brand that I buy is peanut butter....even then I buy the store brand for baking lol

Tomorrow they'll put my order for the hardware store and pharmacy directly in the back of my truck thumbup

I was afraid 😨 to not say substitutions were ok when I ordered groceries last time. I will this time. For now the supply seems to be ok. So I will when I order today.

Glad you were able to go out alone today, Sunny. That makes the trip faster and easier.

Yes, I have a box of kids cards as well as a box of well cards and some small thank you cards. I used to buy them at Wal-Greens 2 boxes for $3.00. But the Walgreens here is not easy to get to plus the parking lot is an accident waiting to happen. IMO they had parking along the store and enough area to safely back out and keave...but then later decided to put an extra lin0e of parking in the area that once was for driving...now one has quite the time backing out. I only shop there if I have to..and then park in the next stores parking lot.

I agree on all counts, Tina.

I just ordered groceries from Wal-mart. I spend a whole lot less money than if I went myself, that is for sure.

I wish all of you a safe & fantastic day. Stay safe, Sunny

I'm home safe and sound...sometimes curbside pick up is a great thing.

Here in Canada due to Covid we are not allowed to cross into another province...if we do(for absolute essential reasons) then one has to self isolate for 14 days. Well, a doctor from our region crossed the border to Quebec.....and did not self isolate and continued to see patients. He now has Covid, as well as his wife, kids and parents. They have closed down the hospital and have to test every staff member, patient and patients that were seen in the past two weeks. Then they have to test contacts and bubble families. They said that we all will have to go get tested in our zone in the next few weeks due to not knowing who has it now. We can't travel out of our zone(it's about an hour drive from point A to B), or be in contact with anyone. We just got the news that he has been fired and the police are now looking into charges being laid....what a mess.

We just ordered from Uber Eats for the first time last night. Jonni was so excited, like little a kid at Christmas. I don't like to use my card for such frivolous stuff. I watched someone (or read someone) say to never use your credit on things that will be gone when the bill comes due back in the 70's. And mostly stick to that ideology 50 years later. But we live in such interesting times.

Ouch, Sunny. I hope he didn't start a real hot spot and deaths.
Yes, Carol. It used to be you could rent a car or fly on an airline with cash. Not any more. Plastic money rules the world. But for those of us that don't trust it, life gets tricky. We'll not be ordering regularly on this format.

When we opened an account with the bank here when we moved, we were told that the debut card is even safer than a CC...now Both my girls outmost everything on their credit cards.
My one DD puts every thing on hers then uses her accumulated points/ cash to go on her trips all over the US with her college friends. They both watch their cards very closely...and when they either have a problem, one phone call and their problem is fixed.

John used his CC for most things. But he never charged more than he could pay off when the bills arrived. Not food for the most part but everything else. Those cards were cut up and discarded when he died.

We primarily use our debit cards...I really do not like it. If Rod passed away tomorrow I think I would do as my girls do..use my CC then pay it off monthly. Or else write a check...I really prefer using checks but a lot of places don't like them anymore. Time will decide what we do.

For online I use a PayPal type of thing. But my bank acct. Is not connected to it.

Goodnight all sleep well.
