I just got a mandarin orange tree and a blueberry bush planted, and got my seeds started for carrots, peppers, romaine lettuce, and butter lettuce.

We just had a couple of random 90 degree days, but it'll be only in the 70s for the rest of the month so I can till some land to plant the starts later.

Today I bought and planted flowers for my large pot on my front porch. Then while buying the flowers (did you know that wearing a mask fogs up your glasses?). I found herbs. All I bought was sage. But good luck for me, there were 2 plants in the pot. So now I have one outside, and one inside. Yay for Carol. I was in and out pretty quickly, and there were not many people at the nursery, which was nice...I was easily able to keep more than 6 ft. away from other people.

Junie, do you use sage in your Thanksgiving stuffing? I've never grown or cooked with sage.

I've been eating radishes and lettuce out of the garden but it's supposed to warm up and what's left will bolt. I have a few squash and tomato plants coming up but it's been cold. Supposed to get very hot very quickly though. Not so sure that's a good thing.

I love sage in my stuffing; it just doesn't taste the same without... But I don't think I've used it in much else...

Our weather has already teetered; a week of 85-90 followed by two weeks of 60-70 and heavy rain.

Yes, I use sage in my dressing..would not make it without it.

Try this...I buy turkey legs, wrap them in bacon and tuck sage leaves under the bacon rashers..then baste them with the sage flavored bacon fat that drips into your pan. It is yummy. I do it with chicken legs too.

I really can't think of other things right now but I must use it a lot, I seem to run thru a fair amok over the course of the winter.

Yes, I am worried about the weather as wel!...it is wear your sweater here for a few days the in the mid 80's for a while and then we have a storm and then we begin again.
My basil and sage is barely coming up so as I said, I bought the sage plant.

86° today with no breeze. Hot! I pulled up some of the older lettuce and put it in the compost pile and pulled up some for a salad. It's going to bolt soon. Also pulled up most of the radishes. We had a nice salad for dinner.

86*...wow, it is 32*F here this morning lol

Yesterday, I broke up the clumps from hand tilling the garden. I really need to get a small tiller...these bones aren't getting any younger.

I had a small tiller once. Do you have a resell it site where you live, Sunny. I think it would be a good purchase. New or used.

I have been searching the used sites for a few years Junie, and I just can't justify $600 for a new one. They are so expensive here.

I might just rent one each spring starting next year, there is a place by DD's where they rent it for $50 for a day. I can afford the $50 but not the $600.

Yesterday I put in my new birdhouse on a post, fertilized the lilacs and mulched the last of the beds(I need 2 more bags of mulch though). I have my potatoes chitting as well, slow and steady.

Wow ! That is a lot for a small tiller..and yes, $50.00 to rent one is doable. Plus you would not have to store it or have the upkeep.

I have a question: what kind of mulch do you put on your beds..I am assuming your flower beds..right ?? I am looking for some type of mulch for my blackberries.. I have read that shredded pine bark is ok...

I picked up my Sun Joe TJ600E Tiller [amzn.to] for $85; they have all sorts of models below $600 [amzn.to], why so much for your big tiller?

I need a larger gas tiller, those little ones would never work here James.

I use mulched cedar for my beds and berries. The bugs don't like cedar.

My little tiller won't work. I'm going to have to take it to a small engine repair place I guess but it might cost more to repair it than to buy a new one.

I hope you get another Sheri, our ground packs so hard after the Winter's snow that those little tillers would burn out trying to dig.

I will be breaking up clumps today in my veggie garden and adding my compost. Maybe next year I'll prepare and rent a tiller for the day...the rental shop is closed due to the Covid virus.

We had a horrible storm last night and a tree went down. What a mess.

Today I planted cucumbers, bolita beans, and okra. Tomorrow if it's not too hot after church, it was 86° today, I'll finish planting the beans, plant black eyed peas and get rid of some weeds that showed up since we had 5 inches of rain since Monday. BUT the ground is still dry. Go figure.

Almost forgot. I saw a YouTube video from someone called Alabama Gardener who swears that wrapping the stem of squash in foil will keep the SVB out so I'm gonna try that.

Yesterday I got all the clumps out of the veggie garden so it is now ready to be planted. potatoes can be planted here at the end of the month once they have grown their eyes....GG and I also composted and fertilized the blueberries and raspberries. We also moved a few strawberries around that grew to close to the edge.

DH said that this Fall we are going to move the kids swing so that I can expand my garden to double it's size....if so, I will definitely have to get a tiller next year thumbup

Oh how wonderful for you, Sunny !
I still miss my dad's huge garden. Plus over the years he would add smaller garden sites dedicated to such as asparagus, redicio, and other lettuces. It was grand. He would plant and mom would can. Well, dad would help her make tomato juice. He drank a lot over the winter months. He had built her shelves in the cellar to store it all.
I think they put in beets just so they could pickle some for me. shewinks
In the 10 years since he has been gone, it has grown into a nice grassy yard area. badday

Today I will put a few more potatoes out in my last big pot. The potatoes I bought a week ago must not have been treated as they are growing eyes galore. I am taking the nicest eyed to plant.

I planted black eyed peas after the 24th and they're already up 3 or 4 inches. I'm taking that as a good sign. It's been sooooo hot and humid though I can't stand to go out there.

Yes the heat is like that here as well. You need to go out before say 7 am or after 6 pm. Only way to do it. When Valarie was a baby I would put her to sleep at ,7 pm and set up the baby monitor and take the monitor out to my garden and do work then. To my notion it is the only way...

I'm guessing that there is no need for a greenhouse where you live Sheri.

My drills are all made in the garden but it is calling for frost this week. I did re-edge all the flower beds though yesterday.

I have a little greenhouse and one year I grew lettuce all year round. If I plant lettuce outside, I have to plant it in February and hope for the best. Then it all comes up at once and it's too much to eat before it gets a million degrees and it bolts. Same with green peas.

We've had gallons of rain and I'm having a problem with slugs. Ever heard about putting out egg shells to deter slugs? I tried it. I have a few squash seedlings in pots on the back walkway that are just barely breaking the dirt so, I put egg shells all around them. Walked out last night and a gigantic slug, maybe 2 inches long, was crawling across the shells heading straight for the pot. He didn't seem to mind them at all.

I've heard about the beer too but then I read that some of them aren't affected by it. Colt and I went to Lowe's looking for Sluggo and it was sold out. All the rain has caused a slug pandemic in my area.

My dad used to use beer as well. While wading some lettuce tonight that my SIL gave to me, I washed out some slugs..yep, you need to wash leafy greens really well.

I'm planting my lettuce this year in a long planter box that I bought last Fall at the dollar store. I hope it works out better than in the ground....at least with the box I can move it around on hot days.

Bean and carrot seeds are going in the garden today.

I planted lettuce in a long box one year. It worked well but my box was narrow so I couldn't plant as much. Of course, our lettuce is long gone by now. I'm not sure what would happen to the seeds if I planted lettuce seeds in this heat. Let us know how it turns out Sunny.

I brought in more squash today and everything else is looking ok. The okra seems a little slow growing this year though.

My SIL's okra is slow growing this year as well

Next year you need 2 boxes, Sheri. You can plant lettuce in one, then wait a week or 2 and plant lettuce in another box.

Junie that’s a good idea. I’m making plans for the fall. I’m not planting green peas anymore. They just don’t do well for me. Kale does great but we don’t like it. Maybe plant and actually harvest and eat beets. I’ve planted them before but never use the.

Today, I made a decision about my gardening.

I want 4 cubic square raised garden. 18 inches high. Then I want a rocked area along the one side of it to put my pots on it. Rod will not have a lot to trim around, and If anything will not grow wel! In a pot, I will have a small raised bed to use.

Thank you for listening.

Sheri. Why don't you pick your peas as they are ready, clean them, and the put some on a lipped cookie sheet in a single layer. Put them in the freezer. 24 hours later take them out of the freezer, put in a zip top freezer bag and return to your freezer. You can use them as you would frozen peas from the grocery. Since they are loose, you can just remove what you need for a meal or recipe.

If you would like, you could Blanche them for a few minutes before you freeze them the first time. But if you do that drop the blanched peas in an ice water bath, coo!, Remove and pay dry before putting on the tray to freeze them the first time.

Sunny the lettuce here has been way gone. Hot weather ya know.

Junie, my peas never do that well. I don't harvest enough to freeze. Our farmers market is year round and I've never even seen any to buy there. We're just not the right place to grow green peas and Lord knows I've tried. But thanks for the thought. Sounds like a great plan for your garden.

That's a great plan Junie...I do hope that it comes through for you thumbup

Last night I planted the peppers, cukes, tomatoes and watermelon(we did that this year because we couldn't get pumpkin seedlings). GG planted her cauliflower and flowers. So, the garden is in...now to hope that it grows. I only got a few marigolds for the garden and a couple of flowers for a pot. GG planted flowers in her garden and in my flower beds. She got three packs ~unmarked for .99 cents, I think one is petunias but I have no clue what the others are. lol

I wish our local grocer got in more annuals. It was nice to be able to walk around the parking lot with GG and pick and choose a few, the big nursery was online shopping only due to the fact that it was a family business.

Sheri, this year I am hoping to get a better lettuce crop by being able to move it around. I can put it in the shade or even the shed on the hotter days.

What type of beans Sunny? A bunch of my beans never germinated. I'll have enough to eat for the year if I'm careful but I'll save to make sure to save some for planting. Not sure what happened.

The squash is doing great, brought more in today, but everything else seems to be slow producing. The cucumbers have fruit but it's still very small.

Never did get any potatoes to plant. Fry some up and invite me over Sunny smile

I have a good mind to see if I can find some beans and plant them now and see what happens. You never know.

I looked at last years info and by this time I was getting tons of cucumbers and no squash. This year things are reversed.

I began to put down the mulch under my Blackberries. The weather made me stop. We got 1 and 1/8 inch rain from last evening to this morning.

I started a second little chicken coop(I have to give back the animal cage I borrowed by the weekend), then finished the weeding in the flower beds. I also planted a few perennials in some bare spaces.....the deer flies chased me in though.

Sunny I need you to come visit and make me 2 little window boxes. I've got the wood but not the tools and to buy them online is over $100.00 a PIECE!!!

I would love to have chickens but I'm trying not to get myself into that.

I'm on my way Sheri lol

I need to redo my window box for my garden shed, I had made it out of pine....the next one will be cedar. Pine does not last here due to the harsh Winter.

Is that a Sedum, Junie?

The carrots are poking through in a few places.

I split and moved a hosta last night...it is calling for rain for a few days so it was a good time to do it.

I've got some type of sedum growing out front. I can't remember the name but it's been there forever. I want to say Diane Williams, remember her, sent it to me.

Got my first tomatoes and cucumber today. Salad was for dinner. !

Yes, I wonder how Angelblossom is doing? My SIL law has LOTS of sedums....it is not something that I ever planted here.

Salad is good Sheri, enjoy for me as well.

I planted some 'Grand Rapid' lettuce this morning...what I already have is a Mesclun mix.

Ladies. Back in the day, Plants & Pots sent me some sedum...the Autumn Joy. I am pretty sure she got her plant start from Diane. So, Sheri, Unless Diane had several varietirs, I bet that is what you have too.

Why do cherry tomatoes do so well so fast and the big ones take forever to ripen? Squash is doing well but the okra is s l o w growing.

Everything is producing except the okra which is still only a few inches tall. It was the best producer last year and the year before. We got sick of eating it and I got tired of freezing it. I have one pack left in the freezer so it better take off soon.

I have no idea but those little tomatoes are the only ones that will ripen on the vine due to our short season...I gave up on planting other varieties.

I picked a small bowl of strawberries last night, they are only half the size that they should be....not that the strawberry shortcakes tonight will notice thumbup

My plants are two years old Sheri, I need to take baby plants from the mommas soon and start new. I hill with dirt...we traded all our straw for silage with a farmer over the Winter.

Sounds good, I am only getting cuke flowers now. The climbing beans have started to climb. The carrots will be the thing not to do too well this year, it seems this heat is stunting them.

I pick potato bugs daily but just a few.

Your garden is beautiful. It's too late for me to plant potatoes this year and no I couldn't find certified seeds anywhere. I waited too late. I'll know better from now on.

I've got so many cucumbers I might try making some pickles. We don't eat a lot of pickles so I'm not sure it's worth the time and effort. I do like bread and butter pickles but not enough to eat them every day.

Tonight for dinner we had squash, tomatoes, and cucumbers from the garden. Still waiting on the okra and beans to be ready. I love eating from the garden.

We had some kale from the neighbor's garden. I put it in our salads tonight. We are not big fans but it is really good for a person.

I did put up a new tray bird feeder today. Then I added some tomato cages and also some clips to my tomatoes. Then I had to put some small mini fences as to seperate my sage from my basil.

Junie do you make pesto with your basil? My sister loves kale and plants lots of it. She makes kale soup. We've tried it in salads and in soup and just don't like it. It is nutritious so we've tried lots but just can't do it.

no, I do not make pesto. I cook spaghetti, and put a bit of butter, chopped up garlic, cut up tomatoes, and chopped up basil in it...makes a heart healthy meatless meal...that I usually have for lunch. Pretty tastee to my notion. I do not care for Kale either..we have a bit left and I will add it to a salad b/c as you say it is good for one,,but I would rather eat spinach.

I had my tomato today--it was wonderful.. I made a tomato sandwich.

Glad that you snuck in the photo of your garden Sunny. THAT is a wonderful site to behold...You have a very nice looking garden indeed.

I picked blackberries (only found about a cup) this morning..then I cut out some one inch berry branches..they were in the way of Rod cutting grass. I also cut out some dead branches on my Azalea bush. The cutting of branches was tonight's chore but I was out so I just did it this morning.

I agree...pickles, pickles and more pickles. I only planted pickling cucumbers this year....I need to trellis like you Sheri so that I have room for more varieties.

Don't get trellis's like the ones pictures. The openings are too large and too far apart. I've used tomato cages in the past and will go back to those.

I'll probably use chicken wire for my trellis when I make one Sheri, I already have extra on hand so I'll just need to make a frame to hold it. Maybe you can staple some to yours??

Don't feel silly. You're not the only one. There are people who won't even taste them because of how they look but they're one of my favorites. I think the darker the tomato looks the sweeter it tastes. They do go bad faster than the all red ones though. You can't leave them in the bowl on the table for weeks smile

Last night I trimmed back my blackberry canes that bore this year. We have no place to get rid of the cuttings at so i scatter them around the back yard and Rod cuts them up with the mower. Yard looks a mess right now...

Could you root them Junie?

You know how squash plants will lean over? Well this one decided to lean off the straw bale onto the ground and most of the squash has been molding. I tried to lift it up by putting straw under it. It’s so heavy so it’s not totally up. Hope it works.

My husband wanted me to root them also. If I kept the ground wet I could root them now. I will try to root some next spring when it is wet outside. And I will not root what has already bore.

The best way is to bend a cane over, plant it in the ground and make sure it is wet most of the time. When it is well rooted, you cut the newly rooted part from the original plant. And now you have a new plant. Better than having to buy new plants. Plus it will be the same plant.

Good luck with your squash Sheri. And thanks for the picture. I always wondered how you planted in the hay bales, so to see them really helps.

Sheri, get your DH to put a few sticks under the squash...it will allow air to flow.

Junie, are you allowed to rake and throw your debris out with the trash?

It has been so wet here that all I can do is look at the garden.

No we are not allowed to do that. When I rake grass I put it under my berries...the other stuff either get taken to my SIL's burn pile or Rod cuts it up with the mower.

I picked a few cucumbers...it has rained every single day though this week and will rain like that for the full week ahead. I can see that the cabbage moths have eaten all the cauliflower heads already so they are a loss.

Oh gosh I never thought about getting them out of the soil. My sister in West Virginia mostly keeps stuff covered in a greenhouse but they got in there too. It’s like they were waiting for her to open the greenhouse door so they could run in.

Propping up the squash plant worked. Just needed a little air circulation.

I haven’t been able to get to the garden for three days so I thought it’d be scorched but no!

PS. My daughter said grated cucumbers make an amazing zucchini bread...You know, you take the zucchini bread recipe and you substitute grated cucumber

I'll have to try that recipe because I've got so many cucumbers and my sister told me if they aren't pickling cucumbers they'll come out soft if I try pickling them. I've given lots away.

Last night I went out, dug up 2 volunteer tomatoes and replanted them much deeper than they originally came up. One us doing well, the larger one not as well. But this cooler weather and the rain should help them both.

I would love to have a big greenhouse to have fresh vegetables all year. I can grow lettuce and I might try radishes this year but I've never been able to grow tomatoes. My sister says they don't taste the same anyway. Maybe not enough sunshine maybe?? They still have trouble with white flies and things in their greenhouse in the winter.

That is a good dream to have Sheri, I always thought about having one someday but it would do little good here unless it had a heat source....too much work I think.

Have you ever tried to plant some in pots/buckets Sheri, that way they can be moved around if you need to?

If you do that..make sure the pot is at least a 20 gallon pot. I have done it with smaller and while the plants did well, I did not get much fruit. In my 20 gallon pots, the tomatoes would have grown well, if they did not have this fungus. Still getting some tomatoes though.......Gonna be quite the job to disinfect the pots this fall though, I must say.

But, Sunny is right..planting in pots would solve your problem.

I have shade cloth but never could figure out how to keep it fastened to the poles in a way that the wind wouldn't tear it up. Ordered if from Amazon. . Last year or the year before I put a tent, like a softball tent, over them. But we live in a wind tunnel and even being anchored in the ground it was a constant battle keeping the tent in place. When I planted on the back 40 they were shaded by the barn. But the barn got hit by tornados 2 days in one week and we ended up taking it totally down. I just need to find a totally new spot.

I'm going to watch the sun and build a raised bed. The beds my childrens class built a few years ago at church gets exactly the right amount of everything. They never get watered and the tomato plants produce and don't have any, and I mean any bugs. I figured the bugs would find them after the first year but this is the 3rd year and still no bugs.

I spent the evening dealing with bugs in my garden as well. potato bugs, raspberry weevils, earwigs, etc... It has been a horrid year for the gardeners and a feast for the insects.

Junie we got some treated wood and nailed them together. I think 4 x 6. We made 3 of them and filled them with bagged potting soil. I added more soil this year. Johnny went by and brought home 8 tomatoes yesterday and they're beautiful. No blemishes or bug bites. I'm happy about it but can't figure out why the bugs haven't found them and how they've stayed so pretty when we've had some scorching days. I haven't watered once. They're in a bricked in area beside the church where there are no other shrubs, trees, or flowers. Just grass. Wonder if having other plants around causes the bugs. I'd thought about planting squash there this year but I'm afraid to introduce anything new.

I've tried to attach a picture showing the space. I'm gonna watch my yard for the same sunlight.

Looks really nice, Sheri. Thanks for sharing this. While I would think the brick would give off heat, perhaps that area is protecting from direct/ harsh sunlight? I have no idea about the bug situation. Glad that area is doing so well though.

I guess it could be that you have some type of plant that draws the bugs to your yard, and the church does not ? Just guessing here.....

Sunny, I once saw a horror movie starring Vincent Price and someone put an earwig in his ear and it drove him crazy. That's all I know about earwigs. What type of damage do they cause?

Wow Bestofour, tomatoes sure grow large where you live. They never past two feet high here...and that is with the largest variety one can get. Thanks for sharing the pic.

Earwigs eat everything, they infest the ground and even eat the roots of the plants. They just look disgusting so they creep me out with the fact that they are crawling on things. The bugs are awful this year...my take on it is that they love the heat that you all have. This is the hottest Summer on record here.

I didn’t realize your plants stay short. Do you get lots of tomatoes? The plants around here get 6 to 8 feet tall. We cage them then stake up the cages because they’re so heavy.

1-1/2 inches of rain yesterday. I didn’t go in the yard.

We get lots of tomatoes but only the cherry type ripen on the vine. My mother plants beefsteak/scotia/roma but they are still hard and green at the end of the season so she has to ripen them in the house...they just do not taste the same. I have given up and now only plant the smaller variety. You need a green house here to ripen peppers as well to their true colors.

Johnny went by the church and the maintenance guy told him there were a lot of tomatoes ready and went and picked them for him and put them in a bag. I couldn't believe it when I opened the bag. They're greener than grass and hard as a baseball. That crazy man picked 8 beautiful tomatoes but they're too hard and green to even slice and fry up as fried green tomatoes (which we don't like anyway). Johnny says he didn't ask him to do this, he just did it. Some people have no sense. Maybe he's color blind.

Sunny, I like the cherry tomatoes. I leave a bowl on the counter and eat them all day long.

I guess the maintenance man has no idea about tomatoes...jeepers. They'll ripen on a windowsill though.

They did ripen but not before become soft and one actually rotted.

I pulled up the cucumber vines today because they started looking yucky. It happened over night so I'm not sure if it's from the rain or something else. There were still a few blooms but I didn't know if they'd actually produce so I pulled them. Also pulled up a few tomato plants that looked spindly.

Hi !

Yes, my tomato plants are about shot as well.
I will leave them alone for a bit yet to see if the few green tomatoes ripen.
Good news is I have 2 volunteer tomato plants in my one flower bed.

If i am lucky they will make before the cold weather hits.

Last night I planted some blackberry tips. When they root I will cut them from the mother plant. More blackberries for Carol thumbup

I have already pulled the cukes, tomatoes, beans and peppers here due to frost. Only the potatoes, carrots and a few small watermelons left. I cover the watermelon plants with plastic because they are GG's and are not ready yet(probably never will be but I am trying).

Yup, at most we might get 75 days if we are lucky....this year it was 69 days without frost.

Pulled up the rest of the tomatoes and a few squash plants. No squash vine borer though. I added fertilizer to the straw bales and plant to plant a few fall crops in them. Not yet though because if the seedlings come up they'll scorch for sure.

Looks like my tomatoes are going to bear a bit more in the fall. That will be nice.

What will you plant this fall, Sheri ?

Junie I went to the farmers market this morning and one of the farmers told me he has tomato plants that are about 2 feet tall right now and he thinks it will be warm enough for them to have ripe tomatoes before it's too cold. So I came home and put out more squash seeds smile We shall see.

I readied the bed for beets and radishes that I'll plant in about a week - still too hot. I'll plant lettuce then too. I'm going to plant carrots in the straw bales where the squash used to be. The carrots won't be ready until spring though.

There is a guy who works at a hydroponic place a few towns south of us. He says they will have jet stars and celebrity tomatoes in a month or so. Right now they are getting cherry tomatoes.

Indeterminate tomatoes can grow up to 10 feet high..and will produce fruit until the plant is killed by frost...mine are about a foot higher than usual tomato plants. One is so tall it is leaning over onto and across my azalea bush.

Sounds as if you are going to be busy planting my friend. Take it easy.

The church garden is doing great. Lots of tomatoes just about ready to pull. Maybe I should just plant there next year.

The camellias have buds on them. They'll bloom all winter unless we have a really hard freeze. Guess that leaves you out Sunny. frown

lol Yes, even mild is severe. Although last year we only seen one day dip below minus -40. That was a pleasant surprise.

I dug up a few potatoes, I am not impressed with the variety (that I had no choice in) this year. Next year, I will be calling everyday to get my seed as soon as it comes in. thumbup

Remind me Sunny. I need to get my order in early too. One year I ordered potatoes and none of them came up. I need to remember where I got those.

Radishes, beets, lettuce are looking good. No carrots yet but it will be spring before they pop up. Interesting how seeds do that. My sister in West Virginia has planted carrots and will have them before their ground freezes. It takes months here for them to even break ground.

Sheri, here carrots and potatoes are the first seed to go in the ground....they seem to like the cold start. We have had very heavy frosts, every flower and garden plant is dead but the carrot tops look as healthy as they did a month ago. why

Sunny do you plant shallots or onions? I'm thinking of planting shallots because Johnny won't eat onions and I'm thinking he might eat something milder.

I'm hoping to get some seed potatoes this year. They're so cheap to buy at the farmers market but I love having my own.

I've never planted leeks and I'm NOT going to plant shallots. I thought they were milder than onions and I could sneak them in to a few dishes but I got one today (for free) at the farmers market and the smell was so strong I threw it out.

WOW, I always thought they were milder..I think they usually are. As are leeks. But Sheri, what you need to do is get a mini food processor, grind up the onions, and what us left will cook up in a dish and Johnny will never know you added them, but you will have the flavor for your dish

That's strange...I find them milder as well, with a garlicky taste. It might have been a bad shallot.

I love the taste of leeks in soups....mmmmm.

I am growing some purple potatoes. Moved them into my greenhouse last month, as they still have more than two months to mature. Are there any other tips for growing them, since this is my first batch? Do I need to monitor the weather on sites like Climacell or NOAA? Please advice.

Just make sure to cover them a few times with extra soil while they are growing. Do you have them in buckets or growing bags?

Hello:

Thus afternoon I dug up my suprise lilies...mind you I just found half of them.

Then I raked back all the rocked area around the bed.....then we poured lots of dirt into the area so as to level the bed. (it was very low). Watered it down and.now I am.waiting.for.the dirt to settle. And oh I pulled out all my tomato plants but one...and put away my gardening tools...

Here is a photo of the work we did in the landscaping...inside the rock circle is my surprise lilies...from what I read they may not bloom for several years but I can be patient.

And here is my one tomato plant that still has green tomatoes.

It looks great Junie, I love colored pebbles....mind you, I have told you that so many times grin

Junie, you should put a few daffodils in with the lilies...they'd bloom in the spring.

Ah I have daffodils..and they are from the farm when Valarie asked me to plant flowers when she was 3 years old. I did not care for flowers back then. That seems so silly now.
They are around the corner from where my lilies are planted.

Next year When they come up I will take a photo for you.

Today I cleaned up the garden and covered it with leaves. We got plenty of fall radishes but no beets at all. I've decided not to plant beans or black eyed peas next year. We just don't eat enough to fight the bugs. I can buy dried beans for cheap so if we want them I'll buy them.
