No snow here. Just very windy and has been for weeks. A breeze is nice but this wind is getting old.

I picked up Colt yesterday. Maybe I'll just keep him.

Good morning. I hope to stay awake today and get a few things done.
How does Colt feel about that, Sheri?
I hope this is your last snow, Sunny.

Nothing like a grandkid to keep you on your toes Sheri lol

GG is doing a school STEAM project at the moment....rock candy. I hope it works, I hate to waste pantry staples....it uses two cups of sugar.

I cleaned and mopped today...the snow has finally stopped.

It's hard to mess up rock candy, Sunny. But I agree to the food waste when times are so iffy.
May your snow be over until next season.

I'll take some coffee.

GG dumped a 500 piece puzzle on the table then looked at me shocked by how much work it is going to be haha

Wow Sunny... sounds like my grands, they begged for a 1500 piece puzzle last summer and then had to go home before it was finished,,, hubby finished it and said he would put it out again this yr for them but looks like it may be next before we get another visit... who knows maybe the heat will kill the virus but sure not counting on it... at least I have a portable table
(was my Mom's) that we can do puzzles on to keep it out easily.

Well not much happening here in sunny AZ.. it's really hot and I told hubby I needed air on if he expected any cleaning or cooking done by me... over 100 and I don't move much....
He turned it on and now I can breath , even mopped my kitchen! LOL!

Well off to make a couple more masks and then put my machine back together... it's 8 ft wide when I open it all the way so takes up a lot of room in my ofc space... I will have enough masks made that we can wear and wash in between … or go out a couple times if we have to....

Stay well my friends....

Nana

Yes, We have a box of disposable masks in the house, but I would like some that I could throw into the washing machine. If I could ever get out to buy a sewing machine, I would make my own...my cousin says it is not hard...

The sun is shining and today will be a melting day. I am going for a window visit with GB today......I have to make a pick up at the hardware store for DH, so both will get done on the same trip.

They are calling for a snow storm for Mother's Day here....it never ends.

I move to make Tina the new Mother Nature lol Any one second the motion?

We found out that our local hardware store is closing at the end of the month....for good. It has been passed down through 3 generations with no one wanting to continue it. It's a sad day for us all.

Oh no ! I am so sorry. I know how you feel though, growing up We had a local hardware store that had plants, seeds, and kitchen items one could buy for shower gifts and such...the father passed and it closed...

I have seen so many stores of many kinds close over the years. It is so sad. Every time.
I also think that ours stores and restaurants, etc, will not all reopen from all of this. It will be interesting to see our world post-covid.
I am not running to become Mother Nature at this time (or any time). Too much responsibility.

Oh my that does not sound good. I hope the legs improve, Tina.

Yes, Sunny, bare spots are good. A nice start to your spring/ summer.

Rainy here but as I hear birds, I guess the rain has stopped for a few.

Good Morning.

yea, Tina,,there is a lot of that getting old stuff going around....I pulled a huge flower pot around outside and my back was hurting for 30 minutes...This aging thing is sure not for sissies that is for sure.
Perhaps when the weather gets dry and hot your legs will do better....take care.

It's been over 100 degrees for the last couple of days and cooled down to 91 today. Heat is not helping.
Actually it does help better than cold weather. Just a bad day.

Good morning.

I hope today is better for you, Tina.

Here is a cool day but I will go out and uncover my plants in a few ..it was sure easier to do last night since I had the Really large pots. I hope we do not have anymore if this after I plant the tomatoes out....

I will go out and work on the grass under my blackberries today. I sure hope it warms up.

Well it is in the 50's. But no grass to rake..and the BlackBerry edging I have already done, looks as if I did not touch it..I need to go back to the drawing board...perhaps paper or cardboard as a barrier before I put down grass clippings....humm!.

Your grass is really invasive isn't it?

Tina, yes My grass is very invasive. A lot of it is Bermuda Grass, with a root system that can go down a least 6 inches...so keeping the grass out of anything garden is best ..So pot farming it is.

It was Sunny who asked, Carol. I couldn't figure quite what you were talking about and didn't want to expose my ignorance.
Sweet dreams all.

Good morning ! Happy ☺ Mother's Look to all the mothers.

Look at it this way, Sunny. This is one Mother's Day that you will not forget, and Tina is right...you will need the leaf take soon enough.
I just got Breakfast delivered to me from my DD that lives in the East coast. From Paneras..it was wonderful...and such a surprise !

Yes, it was a perfect gift !
There was 2 breakfast sandwiches, a fruit cup, 4 large bagles, cream cheese, and coffee.
Tomorrow we will have the bagels for breakfast...so really I got 2 breakfasts from her...

This afternoon, Valarie came by with her kids, with a picture the kids made me (hand prints that make a flower.) A window planter and a little swing/ perch for my hummingbird feeder.
AND THEN Rod took me to the local ice cream shop for a treat.

Happy Mother's Day to me !

I love Panera Bread. The closest one now is about 30 minutes away but I've heard one is opening up in my town.

The sun is shining and these baby chicks are getting noisier by the day....I've learned my lesson on this experience lol

They are slowly lifting some restrictions here but I am still scared to go out anywhere. I am glad that we can still order by phone and do curbside pick up at the local stores.

Good morning.

Yes us too, Sunny. Wednesday we have a time to go pick up an order from Wal-Mart. They ask if you can substitute what you want to get I get great value brand in everything I picked out ???..mind you if I get things in the first place.

Not to worry about the chicks..soon they will be able to go out with the others...too bad you did not have a place to keep them outside.

Drinking my coffee.

Good Morning All,

Was happy to see everyone had a nice Mother's Day... I did too, hubby made all the meals and got me a beautiful card and bubble bath stuff... kids all called and sent cards and gift cards.. was a happy day.... was rather warm but we cooled off nicely in the evening … ac will be on all the time soon enough...

My grandson significant other graduated from college, she was the speaker too, online graduation,, we got to watch it... they just moved to so she can go to the School of Mines to continue for her degree.. closer to my dd's family which is making her very happy , she will get to see the baby much more often... they live just a couple blocks away now instead of 50 miles one way..

Well off to get some stuff done while it's cool enough to do it... have to de dog hair the carpet and furniture, he sheds a lot and should be bald at this rate...LOL!
Have a good day all, stay well and safe... we are still isolating here... would rather not get this virus, if we haven't already had it... and there are only tests here if you have symptoms.,
Nana

It never melts in November lol

They say it should start warming up in two days....the weatherman must know something that we do not. I hope it is a quick warm up....I am adding a small section to my garden for GG and another for myself. We are now expanding on both sides of the swing that is in the ground next to my garden.

Good morning !

Yay for extra garden space Sunny. I hope your weather people are right. I will say though, we get a few warmer days then a few colder dsys, then even a few hit dats...but nothing constant. I hope that is not our new normal.

Today's forecasted rains have not started....yet.

Yra, I was watching that..then IMO they began slinging innuendos so I turned off the TV...getting me upset will not change a thing.

I am going to plant flowers today. Even if it is raining....I will be doing it on the porch which has a roof, so no worries.....I cannot wait to get started.

Tina, the news is depressing these days with so much conflicting info I find.

Rain or shine, there is never a bad time for planting flowers.

I don't get depressed watching the news. I get sad sometimes about the things that happen. But I also look for the good things in the news and there are lots. It keeps me on an even keel.
But the interviews I was watching weren't news. It was history happening. And I listened to the supreme court's live audio too. Although I listened to it recorded because it was happening at the same time. More history.
It all keeps me informed on how we're doing as a nation. And where we are at on the pandemic. To know how to react to it.

I would love to be informed as to current events, but it seems to me that most of what is heard on the news is not exactly correct...no matter which side it is coming from.I
Soj I listen to facts, such as if you must go out, wear a mask..etc.
This is how we will begin to open things back up, this is where we are at with developing a vaccine or treatment for the covid 19 virus...

Anyway...goodnight to you all. Sweet Dreams. Sleep well.

Tina, I was watching the news the other day and within the same 15 minutes we had them stating to wear masks if social distancing is unsure, then an interview with an Epidemiologist stating that the use of masks is dangerous giving people a false sense of security and with proven facts that the masks can collect bacteria and other viruses. It sure is confusing.

On a brighter note, the sun is shining and we have some great melting weather for the next few days thumbup

Yay for great melting weather, Sunny. I hope it continues.

We went today and picked up our first grocery order from Wal-Mart. It went very smoothly. And I found they had a phone number to call them direct if you had trouble contacting them with your phone or did not have a smart phone. I may use it a lot...

Good morning ( it is before noon here yet)

Nutrition is also high on the list for staying healthy. I'm thinking of meals also. I figure BLT's And bean salad for dinner tonight.

OH that sounds good Tina, I made a big salad yesterday for my dinner.. rest will be lunch today... trying to eat as healthy as I can …

Woke up early today, made a big breakfast for us... my potatoes are getting soft so will peel a bunch and make mashed and fried from them... makes it so much easier to make meals if it is ready to go in the freezer... and I have the room … I am making masks today , finishing one and making a couple more.. lots of places require them here now that our gov is allowing places to open, we intend to still quarantine.. high risk group age wise , want to see my grands grow up...

Hubby worked on the yard yesterday, mowed, fertilized, he trimmed some of the bushes too... made Milo happy he can get under them now to investigate all the new smells... they are out on a long walk right now... it's cooled off nicely so they are taking advantage of it...will be to hot again soon enough..

Well got to clean this office up some so I have room to make a new mess sewing … have a good day all and stay well.

Nana

My county stopped requiring masks on Friday. But most stores still require them so you might as well. I will wear one if I go out. I don't go out. The next wave is going to be worse than the first.

Yes, I think you are right. I just had an argument of sorts with a cousin of mine...( She lives in Illinois) says it is all their governors fault and he should just shut down the northern part of state and let the people in the rest of the state get back to living...says small businesses are going under and he is making more out if this that is necessary
That was just part of the conversation......we finally began talking about other stuff.

It only takes one person to start the wave again...anywhere. I don't know how any 'normal' will be seen anytime soon....staying home is our best option if we can.

Tina, is Tangela still running your errands?

I am not making this up. I ordered a $600.00 camera for our church. I received a baby monitor. I called customer service at Amazon, got a recording saying "sorry because of the virus no one is available to talk to me." I downloaded the app on my phone so I could do a "chat". Explained to Monika what happened. She responded that boxes aren't being checked before being sent out so she's not surprised I received a wrong item." She sent me a label and I'm taking it to UPS tomorrow. I didn't order another one. I'll try BestBuy instead.

So happy that your Daughter is doing all of your shopping, Tina.

If my DD did not only shop at Sam's they would probably still be doing ours as well. But with the curb side pick up at our local Wal-Mart we do not have to get out so it is still good... My DD said if we ever wanted a lot of something, just to let her know.
We will be only going out for Drs. Appts for a long while to come...and yes the state is beginning to open up, but we are not.

My, I didn't realize it was so late. I will wish everyone a good night.

Hi all, another melting day ahead here....I rake the snow to melt it then rake the ground underneath it lol

Sheri, DD bought GG a new bike last week, when we opened it...there were no pedals. Thankfully the manufacturer said they'd send them in the mail. No one is checking boxes anywhere.

Dark chocolate goes great with salty caramel.

I got some bags of seafood compost today....my veggie garden needs it badly. You just call in your order, drive to the store and they put it in the back of your truck. No contact whatsoever.

Yes ..we you are lucky my local box hardware store will not do curb side pick up on things like bags of soil and such or plants.

I think I need to call a few more places and check what they offer.

Home Depot and Lowes here will do that too, even before the pandemic. Also home deliveries for a charge.
I like fruity stuff when I'm thinking about baking, Cobbler type things.

Good Afternoon ,

I had a good morning , was able to move without hurting to much so juiced my bag of lemons... now in ice tray to make lemon cubes for lemonade... been wanting it for a while now... cleaned up my office yesterday.. after I finished up another mask for hubby,,, this one has ties , made out of shoe laces... governor has opened up stuff here but I agree,, in two weeks people will be sick and dying more than before... we are staying in … keeping busy with projects... I have a small decorative shelf I use for my coffee station, want to stain or paint it darker to match the cabinet it sits on , so hubby said he would get some stain for me next time he hits Home Depot.. we are having house stucco repaired and repainted next week too, sure hope the paint doesn't set his allergies off worse than they are now.. he hates taking meds but really needs to take them this time of yr...

Your cobbler talk made me hungry too, have a bag of blueberries in freezer may have to make one now... even if I have to make 2 small ones and freeze one for later...this cooking for 2 is hard for me... Well off to get my sheets out of dryer and start another load.. always something to keep me busy, just not always something I want to do! LOL!

Stay healthy and safe...
Nana

Cooking for a small family is hard, Sherri. I gave up trying. It is better having leftovers in fridge or freezer anyway. Two or more meals for pretty much the same work and time.
Stay safe!

Nice to see you, Nana...I may have to make a cobbler in a few days as well. I have these little 6 - 7 inch pie pans that makes enough for 1 dessert. I have one for each of us. I must say though..I am like Tina..I enjoy leftovers. As she says...more food for the same work..

Supper is done here...with enough left for tomorrow night...yay !!!

Sunny, wonder where in the world those pedals went? Gotta be hard to ride a bike without them smile

Tina, I made cupcakes yesterday. I've eaten 2 and now will have to take them to Shelley's because Johnny won't eat them and I'll eat all the rest if they're left here.

I want to talk about something I'm worried about. States are opening too early. A bunch of people are going back to work. The stock market is getting back at least on it's toes. The economy is still tanked though. The unemployment rates are still dropping.
Even if we don't get a bump in the numbers of covid cases just from opening up (which we will), there is a second wave on the horizon for the fall. The experts are predicting. Like the Spanish flu of 1918, it is expected to hit harder.
I am expecting our supply chain to be badly disrupted, worse than it has been. More than it has been. I expect us to have a very depression-like event, if not an actual Depression.
My suggestion to all is to prepare for that eventuality. Get food now while it is still available. I know that things have gone up, meat in particular. I know that our stores still have a hard time getting in paper goods, dry beans, rice and pasta, etc. But if you can get it, do.
I would really hate to see any of my friends suffering any lack of needed things. There is no better time.

I am thinking like you are, Tina. I had originally thought things would go back to normal this summer and then we would return back to ( things) this fall at some point.

Now I wonder if we will ever get back to " normal". Whatever that means.

You had some good advice there, Tina. I for one, thank you.r

Good night, Sweet Dreams everyone.

Well, I don't expect normal at all as we know it. Things like shaking hands might not come back, for instance. A small thing but it will change I think.
Sweet dreams, Carol.

Amen. Even when this is over, taxes and 'clawbacks' will hit us even harder financially.

I am thinking like you, Tina. At one point I was looking for the virus to go away, and then come back say in the fall of winter...now I wonder if it wil! Ever go away..and so I am thinking of preparing for it myself.

Good morning !

I have already washed dushes, washed my hair and cleaned most of the bathroom.
Now to drink coffee.

Good morning.
Wow, I am unable to do all of that before coffee, Carol.
Yes, Sunny. You understand what I am talking about. Our whole basic financial structures are endangered. A trillion here and a trillion there and pretty soon none of it matters. It's just paper spread around the world. Like a virus.

I am with you Tina.. we have our stash put away... hubby still buys extra when he can find it, he went yesterday and couldn't buy any beef except steak and found one big family size ground beef pkg.. he said most of butcher cases were empty... got what he could and our freezers are full … this isn't over by any means... maybe I read to many end of the world books but I would rather be prepared than not.

We will be isolating here at home for the foreseeable future... prepared as we can be in this small town...

Well hubby will be back soon walking Milo.. have to go out early before the heat hit's... so better get breakfast started... and then get the meat he did get sealed and in freezer.. may cook so of the burger for spaghetti sauce then seal it , we don't eat that to often.... but nice to have it ready to go when the desire hits..

Have a good day all, stay safe and well... coffee is on and making bacon and eggs... sautéed mushrooms to go with... orange juice and tea too!

Nana

Sounds good, Sherri. I have some bacon here to either eat or freeze, too.
I like reading. And some of my reading has included the stories that came out of the Great Depression. I find them really compelling and uplifting.
And cookbooks are wonderful too. Food rationing during the great wars and such. What you can substitute for what when cooking or baking.
These are things that make me think good things of our chances in the future.

Nana, so very glad that you are prepared. I am somewhat, but if course I would be happy to have more on hand.

Beginning to get cloudy here....

Junie, you can get books on the great Depression that has a lot of recipes and home remedies in it...and what they used to substitute. Just do a search on a bookstore site thumbup

As much as I complain about the work in a hobby farm....there are many people who wish they were in our shoes at the moment. I am so thankful that I have always been a frugal person.

I hand tilled my garden today(meaning I spent hours turning ground with a shovel), I'll rake it out tomorrow....got to get it ready to put the potatoes in, in a few weeks. With the addition I added this year, I can get in an extra row of potatoes.

Thanks, Sunny. I will look it up.

Yes about living on a farm even if it is a small one. I know there are many benefits.
My mom lived in a farm during the " Great Depression". They were much better off than people that lived " in town"...I am happy for you, Sunny...I wish we still lived on our little 5 acres back in Illinois.

Extra potatoes...yay for you !..potatoes keep well if stored in a single layer not touching.

I remember the elders talking about the booklets with stamps in them that allowed them a certain amount of necessities and no more. I can see it happening again.

Yep, food rationing during the wars. Ration books.
My favorite cookbook is out of print but I was able to find it on Amazon. It is: Good Recipes For Hard Times. It has quite a bit of nutrition info in it that fascinated me when I borrowed it from a friend back in the 70's. The proteins particularly interested me.
Ancient people sowed and saved things to eat. But if they ate beans for every meal every day they would slowly starve, fall ill and die. The same if they stored only grains. But if they mixed them, they thrived. So mixing legumes and grains gives your body what it needs. The indigenous (Indians) came up with succotash; beans and corn. Incans came up with beans and tortillas, corn or flour. Beans and rice, peanut butter on bread are more examples.
We know now that these are incomplete proteins on their own but mixing them completes them. Toss in veggis on the side and now you're cooking. Animal products have all of the amino acids that make up complete proteins. So meat, fish, milk, cheese , yogurt, eggs and even butter have your needs in them. T
I didn't mean to write a book here. Sorry. It is a subject I like. That book lives next to my computer with another I love: The Junk Food Alternative. Not a depression era book but how to make fun foods healthier.

My Valarie has some of those ration stamps that were once her Grandmother's. (Rod's mom)

Tina, I went on eBay and looked at the book you were talking about. Looks like it is a nice book. Good for you.I

I ordered a few books today to entertain me. I also need to buy more soil to plant my last 2 🍅 plants..I think 1 or both may not make it, so I will put them together..if they both make it,oh well, they will have to share the pot.....if they do not, I will buy myself a zucchini plant for that pot...I love Zucchini bread...

Afternoon all,

First day of the stucco/painter doing our house.. had to get up at 6.. so tired already....LOL! they washed the house and filled holes and cracks today.. guess previous owner either never did anything to it or had a lousy job done on it... at least 3 more days of them working... poor Milo just wants to go out and have them pet him... he watches out the windows and whines under his breath to go out... he "talks" a lot when displeased...
I think our next beg purchase may be a water softener , water is really hard here in town and I itch constantly... no matter how much lotion I put on... driving me bonkers... we were lucky in Colo.. water was fairly soft and out where my in-laws live they have a well and it is soft too...

Well now that I paid bills and came here to visit I think I may go rest some.. made enough food last couple days to last us rest of week for meals... warm here today but not as warm as tit will be later in week.. ac will go on then... weather person said we are going to have 100's soon daily.. so glad for the ac here.

Well better go and see what else I can do not to nap to long or at all... maybe read some more....

Have a good afternoon and evening all.. stay well.
Nana
