Yea, I would be happy if my mental planning projects were in fact finished ones.

My computer decided to install a new version of Windows....then get stuck in the installation. Lesson learned...if it ever happens again, one just has to take the battery out for a few minutes. Once the battery is reinstalled it 'unsticks' itself. smash

I had muffins for breakfast yesterday to celebrate Mardi Gras. The school does not have their cafeteria anymore, they always did a pancake meal for the kids. Ash Wednesday today....in our area that means a 'fish day'...no meat is to be consumed.

GG's school hosted a basketball game yesterday and they won so that means another two games today after school. This simple after school program is getting out of hand, they wanted us to travel 4 hrs one way to attend games in another city. Thankfully a few parents were on my side when I told the coach that I wasn't travelling anywhere but local and on good driving days only. Parents have started taking their kids out of the program already. Where are the days of fun and exercise and not competition?

I hear you on selling competition in schools. So your kids pack a lunch to school every day, Sunny?

Yup, we pack lunches Tina, they also have a few microwaves out for students to use as well...with the help of a teachers aide.

They are calling for a big storm tomorrow, I need to pick up a few groceries so I'll do that after the basketball games.....the store is a minute drive from the school.

Sweet dreams, Carol.

I'm making arrangements to go banking with my eldest on Saturday. And I'll send her into the grocery store to get a (possible) pandemic larder set up for herself. That's at least two weeks of food stored away in her freezer or shelves in case there comes a time in the next few months when it is not a good idea to go out among the heathen.
Are you preparing for a pandemic?

School has been cancelled and we are preparing for a major blizzard. I hate that my husband is out when the storms get this bad....they'll probably have to pull the plows off the road tonight with the extreme winds.

Tina, I have seen on the news that people are stocking up due to the fear the corona virus, they said that it was hard to find bleach in a lot of places. I remember one year when Junie sent me hand sanitizer because it was impossible to get in our province....I keep prepared now. Keeping everyone in my prayers that it gets under control soon. I am glad that you are able to stock up...financially it will be hard for many to do and that makes me sad.

I have an yeast mix setting to make bread, cold and stormy days are great for baking....well, as long as we keep our power. wink

I hope you keep your power, Sunny. What do you lose, other than your lights? Does your oven work when there isn't power?
I feel bad for people without, too. I was one in earlier times. And why I give regularly to food banks, etc. I remember how hard it all was. I still have some of my monthly menus from days gone by. I still cook the same stuff these days but use less meat than then.

Tina, I have a small generator now for lights, fridge and freezer but I lose the use of my electric stove and water(submersible pump). We bought the generator for use in the Fall when the hurricanes go through....in Winter I always put the food in hampers in the snow but in the warmer weather we lost too much food too many times.

I do have wood heat and am able to cook on the wood stove and we keep a propane camping stove for use in the shed if needed for boiling water quickly. I keep gallons of store bought spring water for drinking. We can melt snow in an emergency and I have access to river water just a walk across the road if needed for the animals and such.

I am always prepared to go a week without power if it happened....down to having old time wash boards for washing clothes lol

Well, I am nudging. I want yell from the rooftops. Not in a panic though. Just to make people hear. Covid 19 may not come to pass but.... If it does come I hate thinking about those I can't help. I already feel bad for those ill already and I can't help.
I was just on another site where they were talking about the costs of the medical masks going up. I said I bought a couple hundred of N-95 masks a few years ago for wildfires/smoke. They sent me Ebay pictures of how much people were paying for them now. I do not have them for profit but for my family, friends and neighbors. I plan on sharing them if the need is there. Thar's why I bought a lot.

I have an old propane stove that I don't use due to age, mine and the stove's. But I have purchased two butane stoves that can be used indoors, right on the kitchen counter or on a useless stove top. That gives me four burners if I need them.

In IL we had a week's worth of MRE's and several gallons of water in the basement. Along with towels, washcloths, and soap. That is also where we kept 2 emergency first aide kits. Rod may have one first aide kit in the basement here now. Tomorrow I will begin to build up my non- perishable stores......I bet the face masks are out of sight now. I only have a few of those as well.

Yes, my emergency supplies are mostly for earthquakes and their aftermath things in mind. And I do buy extras for neighbors. But that will help cover all kinds of other problems. Right now I'm geared towards a pandemic keeping me and mine indoors and away from others. That means I probably don't have to worry about electricity and the stuff in my freezer. Or water supply or propane for cooking. Food that we like to eat for a couple weeks or longer is what I'm aiming for right now for my house and my oldest daughter's house.
They've had the first confirmed case of covid-19 that isn't from a known source.here in California. The person has not traveled out of the country nor knows anyone who has. Is also a rather rural person that doesn't go out often. Like me. Where did he or she get it? They have 75 confirmed cases in the states. But they are quarantined. Where did this one get it? It is loose out there somewhere. That is how it starts to get away.

Yes Tina...I believe it can travel through the air like most virus's can. It is scary. An elderly lady in Ontario only showed symptoms 9 days after coming home from Iran...and now her husband has it. How many people did she visit, how many stores has she shopped at????? I can see more cases in the next few days.

There is good news with this virus. It doesn't show signs of targeting children. The kids who do get it, react mildly to it for the most part. So it acts as a mild flu. It spreads more easily than flu. You can have it and spread it for two weeks before your symptoms even show up. We're still learning about it all.

Val did say that she was not worried about the kids. And while I would like to be around a while yet, I have lived a long awhile already. I listen when I hear anyone talking about it on TV.

Goodnight and Sweet Dreams to you all.

Really? No one is giving that information here...thanks Tina. thumbup

It is still storming...Day 2 with no school. They had to shut down all the roads last night and of course people do not listen, so today there are cars/transports caught in snow drifts everywhere making it impossible for DH and crew to do their jobs. I have to head up to do the barn work in a few minutes.

I agree with Sunny. I had not heard that any children either. ( although Val was not worried) , so perhaps it is just me not knowing...but either way, thsnjs, Tina. The more information we have the better.

Cold here..but at least I do not have to go shovel snow...so there is that.

I hope the people get out of the drifts safely, Sunny. And your barn work goes easily to you this morning.

Now, I'm just spouting the bits I've heard about the covid-19 thing. They may or may not be accurate. So get your info from a trusted source, It reminds me of the chicken pox. It reacted differently among each of my children Ipre-vaccine days). Some really badly and some with a couple of pox.

About chicken pox..my sister's kids each got it 3 times...and with having their vaccinations.
Not any of the 3 were very severe to either of them, though.

Every time you're pregnant in California, they check to see if you have the measles antibodies. And several times I was tested for jobs and things. I don't have them. But my mom swore I had measles as a child. They would tell me to stay away from Children while I was pregnant because I had no antibodies in my blood. And then give me another vaccine when the baby was born. I've had so many MMR shots and they don't take. I won't have another.

I hope you did not pass that ridiculous gene into your kids, Tina. That must have been / be scary for you. I do not blame you for not wanting to take another such test. IMO there would be no point.

Sleep well Everyone. Sweet Dreams.
