Yea, I would be happy if my mental planning projects were in fact finished ones.

My computer decided to install a new version of Windows....then get stuck in the installation. Lesson learned...if it ever happens again, one just has to take the battery out for a few minutes. Once the battery is reinstalled it 'unsticks' itself. smash

I had muffins for breakfast yesterday to celebrate Mardi Gras. The school does not have their cafeteria anymore, they always did a pancake meal for the kids. Ash Wednesday today....in our area that means a 'fish day'...no meat is to be consumed.

GG's school hosted a basketball game yesterday and they won so that means another two games today after school. This simple after school program is getting out of hand, they wanted us to travel 4 hrs one way to attend games in another city. Thankfully a few parents were on my side when I told the coach that I wasn't travelling anywhere but local and on good driving days only. Parents have started taking their kids out of the program already. Where are the days of fun and exercise and not competition?

I hear you on selling competition in schools. So your kids pack a lunch to school every day, Sunny?

Yup, we pack lunches Tina, they also have a few microwaves out for students to use as well...with the help of a teachers aide.

They are calling for a big storm tomorrow, I need to pick up a few groceries so I'll do that after the basketball games.....the store is a minute drive from the school.

Sweet dreams, Carol.

I'm making arrangements to go banking with my eldest on Saturday. And I'll send her into the grocery store to get a (possible) pandemic larder set up for herself. That's at least two weeks of food stored away in her freezer or shelves in case there comes a time in the next few months when it is not a good idea to go out among the heathen.
Are you preparing for a pandemic?

School has been cancelled and we are preparing for a major blizzard. I hate that my husband is out when the storms get this bad....they'll probably have to pull the plows off the road tonight with the extreme winds.

Tina, I have seen on the news that people are stocking up due to the fear the corona virus, they said that it was hard to find bleach in a lot of places. I remember one year when Junie sent me hand sanitizer because it was impossible to get in our province....I keep prepared now. Keeping everyone in my prayers that it gets under control soon. I am glad that you are able to stock up...financially it will be hard for many to do and that makes me sad.

I have an yeast mix setting to make bread, cold and stormy days are great for baking....well, as long as we keep our power. wink

I hope you keep your power, Sunny. What do you lose, other than your lights? Does your oven work when there isn't power?
I feel bad for people without, too. I was one in earlier times. And why I give regularly to food banks, etc. I remember how hard it all was. I still have some of my monthly menus from days gone by. I still cook the same stuff these days but use less meat than then.

Tina, I have a small generator now for lights, fridge and freezer but I lose the use of my electric stove and water(submersible pump). We bought the generator for use in the Fall when the hurricanes go through....in Winter I always put the food in hampers in the snow but in the warmer weather we lost too much food too many times.

I do have wood heat and am able to cook on the wood stove and we keep a propane camping stove for use in the shed if needed for boiling water quickly. I keep gallons of store bought spring water for drinking. We can melt snow in an emergency and I have access to river water just a walk across the road if needed for the animals and such.

I am always prepared to go a week without power if it happened....down to having old time wash boards for washing clothes lol

Well, I am nudging. I want yell from the rooftops. Not in a panic though. Just to make people hear. Covid 19 may not come to pass but.... If it does come I hate thinking about those I can't help. I already feel bad for those ill already and I can't help.
I was just on another site where they were talking about the costs of the medical masks going up. I said I bought a couple hundred of N-95 masks a few years ago for wildfires/smoke. They sent me Ebay pictures of how much people were paying for them now. I do not have them for profit but for my family, friends and neighbors. I plan on sharing them if the need is there. Thar's why I bought a lot.

I have an old propane stove that I don't use due to age, mine and the stove's. But I have purchased two butane stoves that can be used indoors, right on the kitchen counter or on a useless stove top. That gives me four burners if I need them.

In IL we had a week's worth of MRE's and several gallons of water in the basement. Along with towels, washcloths, and soap. That is also where we kept 2 emergency first aide kits. Rod may have one first aide kit in the basement here now. Tomorrow I will begin to build up my non- perishable stores......I bet the face masks are out of sight now. I only have a few of those as well.

Yes, my emergency supplies are mostly for earthquakes and their aftermath things in mind. And I do buy extras for neighbors. But that will help cover all kinds of other problems. Right now I'm geared towards a pandemic keeping me and mine indoors and away from others. That means I probably don't have to worry about electricity and the stuff in my freezer. Or water supply or propane for cooking. Food that we like to eat for a couple weeks or longer is what I'm aiming for right now for my house and my oldest daughter's house.
They've had the first confirmed case of covid-19 that isn't from a known source.here in California. The person has not traveled out of the country nor knows anyone who has. Is also a rather rural person that doesn't go out often. Like me. Where did he or she get it? They have 75 confirmed cases in the states. But they are quarantined. Where did this one get it? It is loose out there somewhere. That is how it starts to get away.

Yes Tina...I believe it can travel through the air like most virus's can. It is scary. An elderly lady in Ontario only showed symptoms 9 days after coming home from Iran...and now her husband has it. How many people did she visit, how many stores has she shopped at????? I can see more cases in the next few days.

There is good news with this virus. It doesn't show signs of targeting children. The kids who do get it, react mildly to it for the most part. So it acts as a mild flu. It spreads more easily than flu. You can have it and spread it for two weeks before your symptoms even show up. We're still learning about it all.

Val did say that she was not worried about the kids. And while I would like to be around a while yet, I have lived a long awhile already. I listen when I hear anyone talking about it on TV.

Goodnight and Sweet Dreams to you all.

Really? No one is giving that information here...thanks Tina. thumbup

It is still storming...Day 2 with no school. They had to shut down all the roads last night and of course people do not listen, so today there are cars/transports caught in snow drifts everywhere making it impossible for DH and crew to do their jobs. I have to head up to do the barn work in a few minutes.

I agree with Sunny. I had not heard that any children either. ( although Val was not worried) , so perhaps it is just me not knowing...but either way, thsnjs, Tina. The more information we have the better.

Cold here..but at least I do not have to go shovel snow...so there is that.

I hope the people get out of the drifts safely, Sunny. And your barn work goes easily to you this morning.

Now, I'm just spouting the bits I've heard about the covid-19 thing. They may or may not be accurate. So get your info from a trusted source, It reminds me of the chicken pox. It reacted differently among each of my children Ipre-vaccine days). Some really badly and some with a couple of pox.

About chicken pox..my sister's kids each got it 3 times...and with having their vaccinations.
Not any of the 3 were very severe to either of them, though.

Every time you're pregnant in California, they check to see if you have the measles antibodies. And several times I was tested for jobs and things. I don't have them. But my mom swore I had measles as a child. They would tell me to stay away from Children while I was pregnant because I had no antibodies in my blood. And then give me another vaccine when the baby was born. I've had so many MMR shots and they don't take. I won't have another.

I hope you did not pass that ridiculous gene into your kids, Tina. That must have been / be scary for you. I do not blame you for not wanting to take another such test. IMO there would be no point.

Sleep well Everyone. Sweet Dreams.

Good morning. I'm going banking and shopping today. I've got a list. But need to see what's available today. It could get interesting with much fewer goods coming out of China. There are interruptions in our supply chains beginning to show.

Yes, Tina. I forgot to look for Hand Sanitizer yesterday. I have 2 half full here but no extra. Mind you it is on my list, but Rod saw the size of my list and freaked out. Long story short, I want to go Monday but we are supposed to get a heavy rain then. I may have to wait until Tuesday..

I hope you gals get your shopping done.

Tina, my DD had chicken pox twice...one with just the pox, the second with seizures. The doctor said that the virus lingered in her body between the two episodes.

I am going to go Get my second shot for my new version of the shingles shot. I plan on doing that on Monday or Tuesday.
Today I went to the dollar store (Dollar General) and got some of what I have on my
Wal-Mart list. I found 2 Purell bottles...that was all they had. There was GermX but I didn't know if that was as good. Val says the Hospital uses Purell.

It is looking like I will finish my stock up shopping on Tuesday.

We went to my mother today. She's declining fast and my step dad is still trying to prove he should be able to drive. At this point I'm not sure what to do. As long as my step dad has someone to make sure he takes his medication and doesn't drive, he's ok to live on his own where he is. My mother needs someone to force her out of the bed every morning and into the shower. Once she's up she can dress herself, even to putting on her jewelry and make up. She can fix her own coffee, toast with jelly, and whatever else she wants to eat. He just either can't or won't help her.

It's 50° here but the wind makes it seem so much colder.

I'm sorry, Sheri. It sounds like your mother needs more help than she'd getting there. I hope you can find a way to thread the needles that you have to thread.

Oh Sheri, what a situation...I pray that you and the family can sort it out soon.

Tina, my SIL has shingles at the moment...she is scared because the last breakout was when they found out she had uterine cancer. She is waiting for an appt later this week with another doctor. Until then she is confined to her home to not risk the spread of chicken pox.

It is snowing again....only a few inches though. I'll be glad to see the end of March so that spring can try make an appearance, even if it will be a very slow appearance. grin

I'll be glad to see the end of snow tor you, Sunny.
Our temps are dropping as well. It is going to rain today (I think) It rained very little in Feb and not at all here. I think we are setting up for quite a bit in March and I'm not objecting. We need it.

Valarie and I went shopping with just Henry this afternoon. We did most of our Easter shopping in case we are not able to get out in April. And, if we can, we will be that much ahead.
I could not find any It things like Calcium but oh well...I have some for now.

It is raining here.....with a bit of thunder. It is supposed to rain tomorrow with thunderstorms. Carol will be staying home tomorrow.

Enjoy it from a window, Sunny. Do you have your grandboy this week?
Good morning. I live with sunshine most of the time. And most of the time I love it. But I'd like to see rain once a week all spring, summer and fall. That would perk me right up.

Morning all,

I am with you all on not panicking about the virus but we did lay in some extra supplies , hubby did the shopping as my immune system is not very good anymore... we filled up the freezers and got extra staples and powdered milk , extra dog food,,, and we keep bottled water too.. wish I could do more but we did get enough to share with neighbor lady, she is a widow and her kids are not much help to her, she is always doing for them...my extra bedroom (ie storage room) is now full of stuff.. got Clorox wipes and extra bleach too.. if it does get bad we have enough for a month or so.. longer if we ration it... I worry about my sil , she is diabetic and needs insulin daily... guess we will see how it plays out...
My Carrie's boys did the same with chicken pox shots.. never took... gave them mild versions of the pox but they never show antibodies... after 3 rounds of shots each we lied and said it worked.. since only one attended public school we figure they weren't exposed to it much anyway... never could give us a reason why they never build up antibodies to it but would have a fever and the spots every time they got a shot... I never had them either as a child … even though I remember my sis having them and me having to stay home too .. and my older kids had them too.
Well off to figure out something to do... wind is blowing like crazy so not going outside today..

Nana

Hello, Nana. Sounds like you got it right. I was trying to do an early warning for my friends without panicking anyone. It's people's meds that have me most worried.

Yes, I am worried as well. At " home" my Pharmacy people knew me and knew my mom before me. THEY would have taken care of me. Here I am viewed as a druggie ( my opinion) See, there are a lot of druggies in the town where the Pharmacy is located. And we are new in town.
Back when I fell and hurt myself, my Dr. Finally gave me pain pills. Enough to take around the clock for a.month, so I could heal. This Pharmacy would only give me 1 weeks worth, and then I would have to go back to the Dr. And get a new RX made. I made the pain pills last...as did the pain. Oh how I wish I were home when it comes to healthcare. ..But yes, I am concerned abt. my medications as well. I will call them tomorrow see how soon I can fill them, and What will happen to me " if" there is a shortage.

Nana, I am glad that you are prepared. As I told Rod. We are buying nothing we will not use later. Sounds as if it is the same with you. Keep healthy.

I wasn't feeling well either...and I have been covered in hives for no reason.

I hope you feel better soon Junie. Tina, I agree with the warning others without the panic....they have already sold out of the special masks here and no one in the Maritime's has even been affected although there are cases just under us in New York. That's where 'plants and pots' lives.

Good morning. I am still sick but feel better. Sorry you are sick too Sunny.

I did not look for masks. So I don't know if we have them here or not. I bought flour, sugar, pancake mix ( the type that just needs water to make) oil, shortening, and cleaning supplies. And Hand Sanitizer. Some canned extra canned goods, and my pantry cabinet is full. We will see what happens. Oh, and paper goods..

I'll be back in later..

And I see that Carol is a little better today. We posted at the same time.
I have masks and gloves and hand sanitizers galore. But the masks are not a good idea for general use. I am watching where more and more people are getting tested positive for the virus all around me. I am glad that I can stay in and away from people for a long time, if needed.

You do not need to use gloves in your everyday stuff, Carol. Mostly if you're dealing with someone who.s ill. But they are very nice to have. I mostly get boxes of them from Harbor Freight.

Yes, I understood that, but it just made me think. I may buy a box for my daughter to have.
The quality of gloves from Harbor Freight is good ?

the quality is good for nitrile gloves. They are not sterile surgical gloves but good enough to clean up after a sick kid and then toss. It is what I was looking for. Finding them these days can be tricky. I know they are sold out locally.

Tina, I always keep those gloves on hand for painting, oil changes and stuff....I buy the powder free ones from the pharmacy. They are handy to have.

We got a nasty storm yesterday into this morning...the wet, heavy kind. DH's work place is in a mess....the boss never showed up for work yesterday, he wouldn't answer his phones. They sent someone to check on him and found him dead. Now they are waiting for word on what happened. He was only 61..no wife or children.

Hi all,

I agree with the not panicking , but I think stocking up for a quarantine is a good idea.. we aren't going crazy but we have the room and will use it no matter what... hubby went out and said shelves are emptying of a lot of stuff here already... keep in mind , very small town... mostly retired and military , only 3 major grocery stores and Walmart for food supplies .. would much rather be prepared and not need it than the opposite... hubby is much healthier than me so he does the going out for stuff,,, I go once in a while but doing want to chance getting sick either.. a cold can knock me down for a month! But I am taking my meds and my doc already sent out a voicemail to everyone on daily meds that she will get the pharmacies to issue extra meds if it is made official , she said most insurance plans and medicare will allow it if a quarantine is in place.. that's good to know I take 4 scrips daily... have plenty right now but you never know.. hubby takes one too .

I talked to my youngest today, she is a bookkeeper at her grocery store now so less interacting with customers but they have enacted rules about cleaning the registers and not touching others... so glad... really glad her two youngest are home schooled too.. especially the youngest , he catches everyting… she said she makes sure the 3 of them that go out to work daily take showers the minute they get home... I sent her enough money to get extra cleaning stuff too... helps she works in a store, gets what she needs that way...
Well better go.. hubby made us burritos and Spanish rice for dinner... have a good evening all...

Yes, Nana, I agree it is only.prudent to stock up. Even if we are not quarantined, we may think staying in is the better idea. Not to mention the possibility of price gouging.

I am going to talk to my Pharmacy and see what their stance is. I need to fill my meds tomorrow.

It is so quiet here. We had the kids until 6:30-40. Val, came to pick them up. They are gone. Rod left to help Brian at a bit before 6. I am loving the quiet.

So we're all in agreement. No panic. Do prepare for a possible quarantine. Be prepared for self-quarantining if it is politically necessary because it's all around you. I am very glad we are in the same club here.

Yes, I am glad as well. I will need to go out again tomorrow to check on the Pharmacy as I said. I may also buy some OTC items while there.

I wish us all a safe and healthy upcoming year.
Sweet Dreams to you all.

Amen to that. thumbup

They tested a few from our province yesterday...we are waiting on the results.

The sun is shining, so that means it is cold outside....I need to do the barn work in a few minutes. Someday's I wish the animals could feed themselves

I think I need to reevaluate what foods I have need. I think I need to stick for more than the few weeks I have. A new list is being prepared. I thank the Lord we all have each other to talk this out with.. Praying for the people they tested in your province, Sunny.

Rod made coffee.

Good morning. I've got some chicken and cheese and tortillas to fold into burritos for my freezer today. That is about all I may get done towards pandemic supplies this day. But every little bit helps.

I love chicken fajitas.....especially when I overload them with cooked green peppers.

I got out to the local grocery store and filled up the pantry with non perishables....they'd be used in the coming months anyway.

I am all well now, but my stomach still does not want food in it. When I eat, it stays down, but my stomach hurts for hours after I eat now. why

Yup, soup is a must have when you have a stomach bug.

It is freezing outside today, it seems the harder the sun shines the colder it is touched

Bless you all for being so kind. I will try to be watchful. Already I should not have had the coffee. It tastes wonderful, stays down but tears up my stomach.e

Sorry for the cold, Sunny, but glad you have a warm and toasty house to stay in.

I will wash more clothes today. I wish I could be alone in a room for 10 minutes with the man that designed this HE washing machine. He does not deserve to live. I washed 3 loads of clothes yesterday, it should have been 2 but The water level is so low that I have to put in small loads, then 3 loads was all I got washed. I finished the last load at 6 pm. I should be done. Back at the farm and in town, I could wash 6 or 7 loads in a day..And they would be CLEAN.

Rod is sick, the girls are sick, and Val is sure that "all the hand sanitizer and soap in the world will not keep me from getting this virus".(It is a 48 hour stomach flu kind of thing)

So I said that I have already had it, So if she gets sick I will come and take care of you all...And I will.

Goodnight, sweet dreams wavy

Thanks to both of you.

I changed what clocks I had to as well. I love Daylight savings time. Light at evening time is the best. Now my mind is on planting. I hate Burmuda Grass. I would have had the planning done last year if not for that.

Good morning. I slept in late for me. 5:30. It feels otherworldly. I will get use to it soon enough.
But it was just 4:30 by yesterdays standards so... And I got to watch the sunrise.

You make me smile Tina.
I Love to sleep until like between 7:30 and 8:30 in the mornings.......mind you on at least 3 mornings a week I get up at 6:30....
While I too like to see the sun rise, I love my sleep more.

Spent the afternoon and evening at Val' s. Careing for the kids so she could sleep with her stomach flu.

I am going back tomorrow to continue.

I set the clock this morning so we wouldn't be late for church. I took an hour nap this afternoon. Changing time is exhausting.

Cooking ahead is something I used to do when I was working out...it sure made things easier in the rush of the afternoon.

Today is a clean and mop day...we are getting another big storm tomorrow.

I am home and I am soon to get in the tub. I think that is called for.and

I will head back to Val' s tomorrow to finish her dirty clothes. Boy, 4 children can sure make a lot of dirty clothes. But I also washed Val' s bed clothes and all the blankets that are used on Brain's double person chair.

Thanks so much, Tina. I am glad too.

Rod is better. He is eating a bit beginning today. But not a lot. He walked out to get the mail today so he got some exercise. I guess that is good. But he still has fever...well he says he does anyway. This is a crazy flu. You are sick for like 48 hours but then for 4 days you have this awful stomach pain. Kinda like cramping magnified. . You think, I will eat something bland, you do and you feel all better...for about 5 minutes. Then it starts all over again.
I thought I was ok on the 4 th night, I had popcorn for my supper, and I woke up at 4 am with my old headache from the virus and did not sleep for hours. I took 2 Tylenol and many hours later I thought I may live. Once I was up, I was ok, but the night was horrid.

That sounds like a bad gastro virus Junie. GG had one that lasted for 11 days a few years ago...it was awful.

It is storming out again...that's what I get for saying we had half the snow we usually get by February. It made up for it in the past two weeks with giving us the other half.

We have had our fair share, and other's share too of rain this winter. BUt no snow...or ice really, so I should be thankful for that.

Sunny how in the world do students make up missed school work?

Well, Val should probably stay home tomorrow, and rest but she will go to work tomorrow. They had a book fair last week, and she was supposed to box up the books to send back to scholastic today, She will have to do it tomorrow.

So the girls will be coming here tomorrow.

Bestofour, I'm not really sure how they make up the days. I guess it is calculated in because they know there will be at least ten storm days. Many years ago they cut the March break from two weeks to one to help as well....they keep saying they are going to have online classes but there is still no decision made.

DH got called in early so I have to head to the barn as soon as GG gets on the bus....then clear snow for the rest of the morning. rspb

Here there are days built it...snow days..if they do not use them, like this year, school will dismiss early for the summer. If they need more than they build in, say for spring flooding, they will be either forgiven, or they will go to school on a few holidays or say the end of school will be extended a few days.

It is supposed to be raining, but it is not, and the birds are singing. Rod is still asleep.

I hope you and yours can stay clear of it, Sunny.
It has been declared a world pandemic by the World Health Org (WHO). Planning, not panic. The last global pandemic was the 1918 Spanish Flu. It infected 500 million people worldwide—about one-third of the planet's population—and killed an estimated 20 million to 50 million victims, including some 675,000 Americans
Disappearing from our store shelves are hand sanitizers, bleach, alcohol, anti-microbial wipes, cleaning supplies. Plus toilet paper and such. I have bunches of all the above except toilet paper. Someone got lazy and used up my stash w/o replacing it. I'm a little burnt up about that.

I went out today and got more TP...but I think we should have more out back given the latest news.

There is NO virus in S. Missouri. One was tested but it was not the coronavirus. But it is coming to coin a phrase.

Most of the teachers from GG's school went to Florida for March break....then came home and straight to class, that had me worried as well.

Today her school is having a STEM fair, I guess they do not heed the 'don't gather in crowds' warning very well....I have to attend so I'll gather more supplies from the store at the same time.

I wonder if they will change it here.

GG won her division yesterday and is supposed to represent her school at another competition...but it is put off for now due to the C-virus.

We are in need of a new Coffeehouse....tag, you're it lol
