I think there is as much room as needed. With bathing and laundry facilities and all.

Why yes I did. I have them every Wednesday and Thursday of every week. The other Grandma has them Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. Then if she needs help on the weekend, we are who she asks.

The Girls " helped" me put some ornaments on the tree today. It was such fun.

Those are great moments to have Junie, we are planning to go for our tree this weekend.

My hot water tank 'died' last night...I am waiting for a repair man at the moment.

Sorry the water tank died..but glad you were able to get someone out so quickly, Sunny.

Got a Christmas gift in the mail today...You have to live the internet. But really it is no different than ordering from catalogs like we did "back in the day".

Good morning ! Happy coffee drinking !

I will try to open the next CH...but if I do not get in quick enough the number of the next one is 2584..this one is supposed to be 2583..and then one before was supposed to be 2582...it seems numbers got juxtaposed. ( did I spell that right ??)

Sunny made the kind of error I make all the time. She got the numbers in the middle mixed up. If I need a phone number I'll hear 79915 and write 79951 for instance. But she got back on track this time. It's all good.

Any volunteers to help me shovel roofs today?

If I were going to help anyone shovel roofs, it would be you, Sunny. But I can just see me falling off, so I have to decline. Sorry.

My tree looks sad.. I really need to get to decorating it. My DD had her tree up, & decorated, and her Living room as well, all in 3 hours. Glad she did not inherit the "slow" gene from me.

Good morning, and happy tea drinking....

You are ahead of me, we are only going to pick our tree tomorrow.....I am sad that they closed the 'cut your own' farm. Now we have to buy our tree pre-netted at a hardware store.

Yesterday they replaced the element in my hot water tank...thankfully we rent them from our power company so it was at no extra cost for the repair.

I got the main shed shoveled, I'm on a roll. thumbup

My tree is artificial so I can put it up whenever I get time. At home we used you put our tree up on the 17th..that is Momma's birthday. The tree would've bought a week earlier, and dad would cut a piece off of the bottom of the trunk and soak it in water until the 17 th.

I sometimes drink tea as well. Esp. when I have a cold. I would buy individually sealed flavored teas, new once a year. Rod and I would go to a local craft town that carried them.
It was such fun.

Your garland is somewhere with my box of tiny ornaments for the mini tree...and they are being joined by a single grey sock and a blue mitten lol

GB has called three times this morning...apparently lunch time was before breakfast in his mind.

Enjoy the rain Tina....I'm sure it is a welcome sight for many.

We picked up our tree....they only had three left to choose from. I miss being able to go cut our own....but I shouldn't complain since we are lucky enough to get one.

Junie your garland is with the lights I just bought to put on the wreath over the fireplace. The tiny tree ornaments are the ring leaders in getting all to go out partying with the single grey sock and a blue mitten. That single grey sock is baaaad news and the blue mitten is worse. They know where their mates are but aren't talking. We will be getting a call for bail money any time now.

Yesterday Aubry and I went to the lighting of the Christmas tree and had hot chocolate and looked in a few shops. Today we went to a church bazaar then came home and made cupcakes. Fun days. Poor old Johnny had a funeral.

Well, since my garland is in "cahoots" with your missing items, let me know what part of the bail money I owe..I want to do my share..

BTW...I bet there are mini ornaments from my small tree at the party as well..I

I bought some red beads today, but I sure miss my iridescent icicle garland.....

Yes Tina, the 'sprites' were in panic mode when the man said he wasn't sure if they had any decent trees left. There was a parade the night before and they pretty much sold out, we walked into the shed and there were two scrawny 4 ft apartment trees by the door....then he said, we have a tall one but it looks crushed on one side. I told him it doesn't matter because we put the tree against a corner wall in the living room. He sold it to us for the price of a small tree ($25). Low and behold...it wasn't crushed anyway, as soon as we cut the netting and it thawed in the stand...it fell perfectly all around. It is so nice and full. I am impressed to have gotten such a nice tree from a Hardware store parking lot.

Too funny Bestofour, I am glad that you are having fun with the grands. Sorry for the funeral attending by your husband.

Junie, my garland was in such bad shape years ago so GG and I made a paper chain one from cardstock....we still use it years later.

Great for the good tree. And to have gotten a bargain too ! That is wonderful, Sunny.

I did have some of the usual garland that I bought to put on the porch columns in Illinois, but this tree we have does not loan itself to thick garland. Sad too as it is red and green.

When the kids get older I will cut some construction paper and have all 4 make small chains, then I will put the 4 together and use that...I am sure it will make them happy. And it will remind them, and Grandma how they helped. Thanks for the idea.

Good morning !

.

When my two eldest were small, ( around 7 & 4) we had moved and left behind all of our ornaments. So we were starting naked in a world of ornaments. I saved tubes from toilet paper and solicited some from neighbors and family. I collected some pink, white and red felt and black construction paper and we made a mess of little santas to hang on our tree. No lights, just wall-to-wall santas. I still have some of those santas around.
Good morning. It's a drizzly kind of day. I might bake something today. Or nap. Or both.

I am glad you kept those ornaments Tina. That is a memory to remember forever....we had some poor Christmas's when DD was very small but I had two single Uncles that were quick to step in and provide from buying lights to gifts.

The kids fought over who was putting what ornament where for the past hour. I remember being a child and not even being allowed to touch the tree. rolz

Yes, Tina, very happy that you still had some of those ornaments. It is those memories that are the best. Enjoy whatever you decide to do.

Sunny, I was allowed to put up a very few ornaments, but not many, as they were the glass kind. Then mom would finish the tree.

It is to be warm today and tomorrow then very cold once again.....

Believe it or not, the arguing is making memories too. With four siblings, I learned a lot from arguing.
I only have a few of those santas left. School glue projects aren't made to hold up forever. I reinforced some to preserve them. And we've made many more over the years in classes and such. Teddy saves the tp rolls here, still. But I toss them now as I don't have anywhere to donate them to at this time. I do have a place that will reuse my cardboard egg cartons though.

Tina, do your schools have a STEM or STEAM class? Ginger teaches STEAM and is always asking for rolls of all sorts and Kleenex boxes of all sizes.

Sunny, way cool about your tree. There's a tree shortage in our area too. Not sure if that's just to jack up prices but it's been all over the news.

When I was growing up we had an awful aluminum tree that had a rotating color light. Just hideous.

I agree about the aluminum trees, but at one time they were all the rage...you were lucky to have one..many, including us, could not afford one.

Ladies, a good friend of my sister's saved toilet paper rolls and sold them on Amazon...I am guessing to teachers....

Tina, at some point my DD' s class in grade school cut up cardboard egg cartons and made bells out of each egg holder to use as Christmas gifts. I still have one..it is in my tree as I type.

Yes, finding homes for egg cartons is easy.
I think the rains are gone for now. Tomorrow is going to be a day of phone calls. I am going to say good night to all. Sweet dreams.

Sweet Dreams, Tina.

If it does not rain, I will go grocery shopping. If it rains, I will make soup and wrap gifts. Searched a bit more today for my garland..I have had no luck.

Goodnight to everyone. Sleep well.

Yes Bestofour, I am steadily saving paper rolls and such for GG's STEM classes.....they were begging for the long wrapping paper ones this month.

The weather is so strange, it is snowing at the moment and it is supposed to change to a heavy rain storm this evening. There is going to be trouble for those who didn't shovel their roofs again. shock

Good morning.

I wish I lived closer, Sunny. I have several wrapping paper rolls. Apparently I just had bits on some of my wrapping g paper rolls.

Windy outside.. I often think that I should be living in say Florida..or some other state that is warmer natured.

Bits of wrapping paper are good for bitty packages.

I hope those calls are good ones Tina.

Junie, I get family to save the wrapping rolls so we had lots.

I mopped myself into a corner for a few minutes. I have to leave in an hour to pick up GG at basketball....some days there is just not enough time to get things done.

Morning ,

You all have been so busy, quiet here... been raining on and off for a couple days... we did decorate the house .. took me 2 days to get it all done.... but it looks nice... been fighting a plugged ear from my allergies... it's a pain I!

We get off fairly easy mostly gift cards for all the kidlets… can mail them easier... share a bank acct with Carrie so I just put hers in there... way easier than trying to figure out what who needs and wants from here.... LOL!

I too lost a power cord for a while for my little decorative ceramic tree... wasn't in the box with the tree... after I spent 20 minutes looking thru all the big containers for it... hubby says oh yes I put all the cords together in one box.. in the garage.... WHY? not labeled or anything either....

I have ornaments for my childhood too and all my kids and some of the grands made stuff for us too... we put it all on the tree or the shelves.. that's why it takes days to decorate and then to take down later...LOL!

Well off to see if hubby saved his Christmas son on his webpage …. don't know why he won't get a new ipad for himself to use... guess he would rather I did it for him....LOL!

Have a good week ladies and gents...off to make lunch and some tea... coffee is at breakfast time only for me . tea rest of day....
Nana

Hi all, thanks, I am safe and warm....the freezing rain has turned to just rain and it is so mild outside. The down side is that tonight it will all freeze and we will need skates to travel outdoors.

GB's Preschool concert is at lunch time...I am hoping the roads stay melted out for the afternoon so I can go.

We made it there and back...but I had to use 4 wheel drive with studded tires to do so. Jeepers, the roads were a mess.

Hello

Ah yes, Bread and buns sound wonderful ! We used to bake bread together as something to do on a Sunday....Now that he is retired, that has stopped...you would think it would increase, right ?

10:17 pm
I am headed downstairs to wrap a few gifts. I will then watch my soap and afterwards go to sleep.

Sweet Dreams! snooz

I am off to go shopping and get a tooth fixed at the dentist(filling cracked). DH decided he needs a new pr of Winter boots so that will be his Christmas gift so that means I get to pick out something for myself under the tree. I think a knitted shirt and a new hat is on the list.

Nana, I can’t send gift cards through the mail around here even if I take it to the post office because they get stolen.

Freezing rain scares me. Breaks tree branches and the southern people try too but can’t drive in it. Just awful when it freezes in my area.

Sunny you’re freezer and cabinets must be full because you’re baking and cooking all the time. If I were your neighbor I’d visit 3 times a day-breakfast lunch and dinner.

It rained all last night and all day while I drove 3-1/2 hours back from Gingers. Hate driving in the rain. My rain gauge has 2 inches in it.

Thankfully it’s supposed to be sunny tomorrow.

We are getting snow at the moment then it is supposed to turn to freezing rain, then rain, then snow(in a 24 hr time span)....I wish Mother Nature would make up her mind. No one needs slippery roads this time of year.

I agree, she should make up her mind..and then make it up to have nice weather in the months of November and December. We can all hibernate in the month of January if need be..but not during the holidays..

Good morning...Having coffee here.

Good Morning all,

Got on computer to pay a couple bills... so came on in... sorry about all your wonderful nasty weather... it's chilly here but not really cold, just windy , they didn't even put up the surveillance blimp to watch the border... just put on a big pot of ham hocks and beans to cook all day in crock pot... will probably have to freeze most of it since it's not hubby's favorite.. it's mine, but have corn muffins to go with it already made... easy dinner and lunches for me.... LOL!

Today is finish cleaning up house day and washing sheets and towels.. did reg laundry yesterday.. and cleaned the kitchen … mopped, today will be vacuuming and bathrooms.. house will be done and hopefully stay clean for a while... good thing we are not messy people.. most mess is dog hair from Milo.. he sheds all the time... will get a bath today after his first walk...

Well off to get out the vacuum and see how much dog hair I can pick up... and wash the towels I keep on the couches to catch most of it... have a good day all!
Nana

It's warm here. The gardenias are making buds again. Weird weather.

I made a pot of vegetable beef soup for dinner. We were at Ginger's over the weekend and she had made a pot so I wanted more. I don't think I made any all last winter.

Today is Little Johnny's birthday. Been a sad day around here.

my new magnolia tree got buds right before the bad weather hit for winter here as well...I guess we should expect that when it warms up so when it should be cold outside...

I LOVE soup..Rod does not like it though..so I do not make it often...

I am sorry for the sadness....I am hoping over time the sadness will fade into good memories for you all.

Warm and cozy is good, Carol.
Good morning. It is very windy here. I am grateful for the rains we have had that lessened our fire danger.

No sadly it cannot be over. Besides, I like the how the people on TV are so nice and cheerful. That will change once it is the new year....

I thought you were done until after Christmas, Sunny? Or was that just with you stuff and now you're doing others' errands?
I shopped today and got everything I need until after Christmas (I think). I ordered tamales, a southwestern, thing. And my daughter will pick them up and deliver them before the day.

I wish Tina. Between school activities for both grands in different areas and finishing up other things....I just can't get a day at home. I need to cook meat tomorrow for meat pies then make them the day after. Then the day after that I have to do a lot of special Christmas baking. I have never been so far behind.

I have never eaten a tamale before.

Yup Junie, the new year will soon be upon us and it all begins again. lol

The kids were just here. They were killing time until they all went for their Christmas hair cuts. It was a pleasant surprise.

I will wrap gifts again tonight. Val and so are both thinking we need to get out work done early as we are afraid that Heidi has shared and we might be I'll next week. It will just be a cold but anything we can get done early is a good thing.

Tamales mostly start with pulled pork or shredded beef or chicken. A dough is made from fairly fine ground cornmeal and lard with a little water. It's beaten until it's pretty light (it floats in water). Then you use dried corn husks that you've soaked in water. Then lay out the corn husks, usually 2-3 and spread with the dough and put meat in the middle. (upper 2/3 of the husks), roll them up completely encasing the meat in the dough, flip up the bottom third of the husk and stand them in a steamer with open tops and steam until the dough is cooked.
The meat I like is only slightly spiced, no hot tamales for me. . But they can be spiced at the table for those who like hot stuff. The only kind I like a little spice in is sweet tamales with pineapple and raisins in them. It's work intensive and usually means a whole family gets involved. And families take home their share. It's fun. I've cooked them a couple of times with others, usually a couple of sisters and a mother and the men and older kids care for the little ones and we got busy.
Now I buy them already cooked and eat them around Christmas. Sometimes at other times. The corn husks are great for composts. I've had fresh corn tamales Those were good too. But more labor. And more like a dessert. It's good to have Mexican friends.
I didn't mean to go off on such a tangent. But anything beyond a taco, I never had until adulthood. And a new world opened to me. That was 50 years ago and I'm still in love.
I love a meat pie, Sunny. Enjoy one for me, please.

There used to be a Mexican Restaurant that my friend and I would go to to for our birthday celebration...we would have mini tacitos, a mini chef sakad, refried beans & rice...I can still taste it..yum!

Tina, Henry will be in school, but we will take the girls with us.

You can have all the smells Tina, the scent of boiled meat is not my favorite thing. I just use shredded beef, pork and onions in my meat pies.

Yes, Carol. I was asking if they were more of a main dish or an hors d'oeuvre like her various egg rolls and things. Of course, any of her foods would be for dinner at my house. haha

I made 20 pies from large to small. I am sick of the smell of meat lol

DH is spoiled when it comes to food...and it is all my fault.

DH is hard working also, though. He sounds like he's always moving. And helping neighbors when he can.
Much like my John was.

Good morning (here). Tomorrow night is solstice, the longest night of the year. I like seeing it go by because it does nothing but get shorter and shorter for the next six months. More sun by increments each day.
I hope everyone has a great day.

I cleaned/mopped the house, ran errands, visited some elderly, then went for groceries.....now I am beyond tired.

Anyone want to make cookies for me tomorrow?

Had a good time on the Santa Express tonight ( an old old train that does a 2-1/2 hour ride
And the kids are the grinch, santa, frosty the snowman and much more.

Heidi won at Bingo and got candy so that made her night.

In the morning I will get to go home for the weekend. We are having the Dudley Family Christmas party tomorrow evening...I cannot wait.
If I cannot see you before, I will be back to this house Sunday at some point.

Colt is coming to town today smile We'll have our Christmas on Monday night so they can go home on Tuesday for Christmas Eve.

Junie have you ever done the Polar Express? Must be similar to your Santa Express. We went a few years ago and I guess it was worth the money - a train ride to look at decorations and your picture with Santa. Not something I'd want to do again and none of the grans have mentioned going back. It was fun because the family was together and it was Christmas but nothing over the top.

Have a safe and fun trip Junie.

Merry early Christmas to you and your family Bestofour.

Tina, does Teddy still do the 'Santa routine?'

The kids went to my moms for an hour...which was good because I was doing all the special Christmas baking today and they were on their last 'be good warning', she took them over so I could clean up the mess. They'll decorate their gingerbread men when they get back.

If there is such a thing as re-incarnation...I'm coming back as a man haha

Boy, this decade is fast. Someone on tv just asked what is the biggest thing that happened since 2010. I thought 2010 sounded like yesterday. But it began this decade that's just ending. Time makes some odd loops.

Yes, Sunny. Teddy loves Santa Claus. I don't know how much he understands the magic and stories of all that, but he loves the man. He always has. If he wasn't too old, I'd take him to sit on his lap. But Ted is 25 and I dare not take him into a McDonald's with a play space cause he'd take off his shoes and jump in with all the other little ones. His favorite movies are ones like The Santa Clause and stuff. It's good to have my forever baby with me.

I'm with Teddy. I love Santa too. This has been a fast decade. I've gotten really old.

Thank you Sunny. It's actually nice to have an early Christmas. We'll go to Shelley's at the crack of dawn (because that's when the kids will be up) and take a gander at their gifts and then we'll go to my sisters for lunch. My mother and step dad will be there.

Speaking of my mother and step dad, tomorrow after church we're going to where they live and listen to carolers. Ginger and the gang are here but Colt is going fishing with Colby after church so he won't be with me.

I'm going to try and post a picture of Ginger with the girls and another of me with the girls and then the brothers and sisters. We shall see.

I love the pics...thanks for sharing kissie

Tina, it would be nice to have a set day or time that 'forever children' could play at such places, to be able to sit and take a pic with Santa and such as well. We have a 40 year old niece in that situation but she has Sturge Webber so people realize right away that she has special needs.

The grands are sill sleeping. It was after 11 pm by the time they settled down for bed....the cookie decorating had them in full swing. lol

The cookie decorating was important. So glad they can still sleep in.

Yes Sheri, such nice pictures ! Looks and sounds as if you will have a wonderful Christmas..so happy for you.
Sunny...sounds like you were busy as well. And sleeping grands are wonderful.
Tina..believing in Santa is wonderful. It makes Christmas so much more special..no matter the age.

Sounds like you all had and are having a wonderful Christmas season weekend.

I had a good time with my family. Momma was even there. So sad when it ends. But still a great time.

GB is still here, the roads were terrible with the few inches of snow on the old ice. I am hoping to take him up at lunch time. I want some time to rest before my house is filled with people starting again tomorrow.

Good Morning.

I hope the roads are better for traveling soon, Sunny.

Today Val and I will take the kids to a Christmas store. Then when I get home I will make cookies. Christmas will be here tomorrow night.
