 We went to the festival with another farmer (we are looking after his horse because of his health at the moment), it was fun until the thunderstorm hit. We were pelted with golf ball size hail. I am so thankful that we didn't take our own vehicle....I am sure there are going to be many damage insurance claims from the area there. Going to pick up GB today.

Morning,
It's to quiet at my house now, DD and her hubby came and got the boys... went home Fri, poor Nicoli hurt his ankle while we were at my BIL's, tried to run on the gravel to get his dad to watch him hit golf balls and twisted it badly, we took him to ER but xray couldn't show a break, they wrapped it and told them to have it xrayed
again when they got home, it was okay to travel as long as he kept it up... they wanted to go to Kartcher Caverns the next day so we got out my wheel chair and took him... his Dad pushed him in it and they were very nice to him. They took him to specialist when they got home Sat. and it's a bad sprain, has to use the crutches for 3 weeks but should be fine. Really glad he waited till his folks were here to do it, we had his med cards but they can be picky in hospitals about doing things for minors even with notes from parents..
Well have a few things left to clean up, mop a floor or two.. did the bedding yesterday... finally got my bills done and paid today... now after floors are done should be good to go for a while now...

Yes very happy his parents were there.. I am sure that made a world of difference.
Today I made up the pages for this year's Christmas shopping. I need to keep track so I do not make the same purchases again and again. Plus if I have a record, I know when I am done shopping for each person.

Yes it sure does seem like an odd thing. But then if TPTB have to come up with something for every day of the year it might get hard to come up with 365..or 366 logical things every yesr. I was going to take a nap ( does sound like a good idea) but then I remembered I needed to go to the grocery and pharmacy and there will be road work to deal with tomorrow, so no rest for Carol today. There now the thread is all better...

The calendar I look at has several things for every day. today it's three things. other than the underwear thing and working like a dog, it is also national oyster day. I can get into eating oysters. And love their pearls. That doesn't include international days. There is a whole world out there and when the news gets crazy, it is nice to retreat to something nicer.
It gives me something to talk about besides laundry or dishes.

We have to get up very early tomorrow. Rod is going for Krispy creme donuts and the kids will be here at 7 am. He thinks he needs to get up at 5:30....I think it will take him like 20 minutes to get to the store...I bet he has his eaten by 7 am....

We are celebrating GG's 9th B-day today....it's really tomorrow but she wanted her mom to take her swimming at the pool in town and that is open today. So while she and her mom and GB are at the pool, I'll pick up the cake and food then we'll head back here for the day.

If money is not an issue, I would keep things simple like takeout. My grocery stores have wonderful deli sections with a lot of options. simple and delicious. Along with salads galore.

Well in the winter I cook more items like chili's and stews ( and soup when I can get away with them).....and then in the summer Rod grills and we eat more salads with protein in them for main meals. Otherwise I cook pretty much the same year around.

spring, summer and fall, I love salads. I invited friends over for dinner often and served chicken salad, egg salad, crab salad, potato salad, fruit salads, veggie salads and green salads. I could eat for a week on the leftovers. So, I am doing less prep and virtually no entertaining these days. I am getting hungry just talking about it. But it filled the needs for several kinds of tastes and nutritional needs.

Yes they do, and they are way less work ( to my notion anyway.)
I made a double batch of strawberry brownies tonight. I think I should not have doubled the recipe...oh well, you live you learn.
We have the kids tomorrow. Their mom is painting her bathroom, so I offered to keep the kids so she could actually get some painting done.

Good mkrning.
I made strawberry brownies and I will make hamburger and beans tonight with slaw and rolls. I will probably be making a few salads and a veggie for the kids.
For now, the coffee is ready.

I've never had strawberry brownies. Is it a mix? I cook easy stuff because Johnny eats easy stuff. Tonight for instance, he told me he wanted an egg with tomato sandwich and a frankfurter. That's what he got. In my previous life, the kids were home, my husband was a normal eater, I cooked every day.

Strawberry brownies You take a strawberry cake mix. Add 2 eggs and 1/3 cup of oil. Blend well with a hand mixer and put the batter in a 8 x 8 pan or 9x 9 pan. You can put some parchment paper down in the pan or spray with a flower coating like Baker's Joy. ( I coated the pan with shortening and then coated with flour. Pour in the prepared pan and bake at 350*F for 25 minutes. Then begin chevking. Brownies will be done when batter is pulling away from the sides of the pan and has small cracks across the top. Cool 10 .. minutes and remove from pan. Cool completely, put on glaze of choice, and put in refrigerator 1 hour or until glaze is set. Cut up into squares. ( I left mine in the pan I cooked it in. You can use any flavor of cake mix.

I did not care for the strawberry brownies. I think In the future I will go with a cake. There is a strawberry icing open can buy as well. Sounds like a yummy cake to me.
Tina, where does one get freeze dried Strawberry powder ?
I think I am getting sick once again. Val thinks instead of a cold, my DH had a viral Strep Throat. Either way I think I have caught whatever he had. I must say I am real tired of being sick !

Freeze dried strawberry powder is available all over the place now. I suggest you google that and you will find a lot of options near you or to order. . I like it for my kids and Jonni;s skink. Organic and good stuff.

Yes, it is a blessing. I do miss my garden at the farm. I did not presetve, but I did freeze a.lot and I made BlackBerry Jam. They were true blessings money-wise and esp. When the
Snow was flying and all I had to do is go to the freezer. I am very happy for you, Sunny.

Junie, I hope you did not get strep again.
I have to go tomorrow to pick up nasal spray and allergy medicine for GG. They want me to put her on a 6 week regimen to see if it can clear the swelling of her tonsils....it's about time they started trying something to deal with these non stop sore throats.

Even my year round meyers lemons don't put out much in August, Sunny. 11 months of the year they have blossoms and green fruit in stages and some ripe fruit. All but August.
The 8th was sneak some zucchinis on a neighbors porch day. I didn't grow any to share and I guess my neighbors didn't either.

Grass is nice but the work to keep the weeds out and keep it cut is not worth it. I'd rather grow food.

I wonder what it's like to have a pretty, grass filled lawn.
I have no idea. The first 2 years in our new house in Worden, we had beautiful grass. It was so nice, that Rod decided he did have to spend the money on fertilizers and such. So if course the weeds and clover took over. Here it looks nice but there are plenty of weeds in the front and some thick invasive grass in the back. Because of it, Carol can not have a flower bed in the back...We would have to put medal plates several feet down into the ground...and that will not happen.

Well it seems when you have invasive plants, the way to keep them out of an area is to put metal plate down into the ground all around the area that you wish to keep whatever out. This grass can snake down at least 6 inches so I imagine we would need to put metal plates down at least 8 inches. Thing is I wanted around 29 ft flower bed so I could put a few tomato plants and a few herbs on the one end. That is a lot of metal plate never mind the work to install. And BTW the grass is Bermuda Grass. On another item, I made fried green tomatoes tonight. They were horrible. Reason being that the " new" drive that was in this house must be " energy saving" because the stove will only heat up grease to a certain temperature..so we had fried green tomatoes basically soaked in grease. And yes, I had the flame up as high as it would go.

Yes, bermuda grass is bad stuff. I've known several people that have planted it intentionally and lived to regret it. (and tick off some neighbors as well.) It's not just how deep the rhizomes go, it can climb too. It kills lawn equipment too. I breaks lawn mowers and eats weed eaters.

I think the previous owners were in need of reseeding the back yard and were told if they planted Bermuda grass they could plant less and it would spread quivkly. And as our neighbors have some as well they could possibly be who " advised" them to plant it.
I wish we had the $$ to have the Bermuda pulled out and something else put in...oh well.

Maybe you will need to buy an electric skillet for those special kinds of treats Junie. Tina, I wish we had a longer growing season....then my yard would be more garden than lawn. I never got the grass cut yesterday...it is a 'must do' for today. It seems that the part we ordered was a part of the problem with the mower...then we find out yesterday that it caused the battery to drain. DH is picking me up a new battery this morning...it is always something it seems.

This is going to be a long year.......and then to top it off, Rod had offered us to get Henry from school 5 days a week instead of 2 or 3..........  Now the reason I do not like that idea, is it is THE most perfect excuse for Rod to turn me down when I ask to go home to ceramics.

I have 4 ceramic bunnies that are done except for the chalks....they add shadows and highlights to the bunnies. Then I will spray each with a sealer.
