Good morning !
THanks, Sunny this new CH is perfect !

The weather here is oppressive as well. It was so hot, VAlarie and I pushed the kids around the farmer's market teice, got some drinks and left. I did get some fresh veggies but if it had not of been so hot, I would have also got some homemade cakes, breads and Things like Lasagna. It was so hit that I could not think of food though. And poor Rod thinks that he is grilling out for supper...oh my !

There is a little fair where DD lives this weekend, apparently the hot weather is keeping the people away. I am not going either...the kids aren't used to this heat.

It's a good day to stay in and play with play-doh...tell Rod that GB is grilling orange pork shops today lol

Yes it is far too hot for children never mind us grown-ups. You have to wonder when this is going to stop.

I told Rod about the grilled pork chops. I hope he has enough to share.

Happy Sunday everyone.

There's green banana bread to go with those pork chops as well Junie lol

I got DD to make a Walmart order for me for GG's birthday. She now knows her gifts are hidden in my room(on the top shelf in my closet)....it's going to be a long few weeks of me being tormented by her. She kept asking for one of those Hatchimal things that were $100 at Christmas and I refused....here we are a few months later and they were down to $29 on clearance. I hope she is as excited for it as she would have been then.

Storming and raining here again...we got 1-1/2 inches this afternoon..we will see how much we get this time.

I was going to sleep, but so guess I will wait until this round of weather is done first.

I will bid you all goodnight now though.

Sweet dreams, Carol.
I shopped today. Although he's no longer in school, I still am on a school schedule. So Teddy is ready for winter. He is so hard on his clothes that I need to get a full rig for him. So he will be set until they fall apart around next spring/summer.

It's good to keep a routine Tina...it keeps us from being in a rush at the last minute. I am glad that Teddy is ready for the year...I hope you treated yourself to something as well kissie

Junie, I hope the weather calms down for you. Rain is good but too much at one time is not.

I've got lots of laundry to tackle today and a house that could use a good cleaning from sticky grandkids lol

When you get done with your house, come on over and do mine, Sunny. There is cake and coffee as payment.

Afternoon, I just cleaned my house, well hubby vacuumed for me, my hand is giving me fits at the moment... carpel tunnel acting up.... got a fruit salad to make for the boys, it's more dessert that salad but they really like it...LOL! modified a recipe from pintrest… , got to think of something for dinner too.. it's hot here to but supposed to rain today so will cool down we hope... one of the boys and I went to see the new Lion King yesterday, it was good... now want to see old one to see how close it was to it..

Well off to cut up fruit and think of what to make for dinner too... seem like all I do is make meals … forgot how much teenagers eat!

GG wants to go see the new Lion King movie as well, they watch the old one quite often on the dvd player.....It only starts playing here next week.

My house is de-stickified and the line is full. I love hanging laundry on the line...nothing beats the smell of air dried sheets and blankets.

Funny story: Earlier in the day I could hear the chickens making such a noise that I thought one of them was hurt. I go out to check on them and GG's new kitten is in the cage with them. I started to yell at 'Ginger' to get out and it ran through the bottom. I put wheels on the cage this year to make it easier to push around....I never even thought about the fact that the kitten could get in to the small space in the front that the wheels made. So guess who had to re-modify it to fix the space? I'm not sure who was scared the most..the chickens of the kitten or the kitten of me lol

A chicken tractor! I considered getting chickens a few years ago but decided the other critters around here would kill them all off. So saved myself the destruction and heartache.

Tina, I was worried about critters and the chickens as well. I built the cage with 2x6's for extra strength....and luckily snakes are not a problem here so it has been good so far. I move it and clean all debris so it keeps the smell from forming.

We have an older farmer friend in need of some help for a bit(health problem), so he dropped his horse off to us for a few weeks...it is the biggest Belgian I have ever seen. He weighs well over a tonne. A gentle giant...I wish he was ours.

It is a cooler day today...we start making hay tomorrow if the weather cooperates.

I am so sorry Ladies. I thought it was a simple 24hr virus that I caught from the grandkids...But alas 3 days into it I went to a walk in clinic and yep it was step throat just like my DH thought. I still cannot be up much but at least now I have antibiotics to fight it with.

Thanks for the concern. I will be back as so can.

P.S. Don't catch this, please.

Oh my, I hope you feel better soon....strep is awful.

All our hay is cut...it takes longer to service the equipment than to cut it. Tomorrow it will need to be raked then then we bale it Saturday.

Gosh, such high temps then frost! Will your hay dry well ?

My headache is a bit better, as is my tonsils. But it is still far from over.

Hope you're better soon Junie.

We've had a day or two in the 80's. It's been nice.

Thanks, Sheri. I think I am slowly getting there

It has been in the mid 80's here for a few days as well. I hope the trend continues.

I am going to try to go to sleep. Goodnight everyone. Sweet Dreams.

We avoided the frost...by two degrees.

The hay will dry well Junie, we are getting an extreme heat wave for the next three days. The air conditioner will get a good 'going over' lol

Great about avoiding the frost, Sunny. And in the well timed heat-wave.

I fell much better today. Why I am even seeing how a cup of coffee (I use milk) will go down.

I am in to grab a quick lunch...this is a busy time of year.

Does anyone have any tips of removing mildew stains on stained cedar shakes?

Morning (for a little while yet here anyway)

Got up early and boys did too which was good, they sleep a lot, teenagers!

Carrie and Jon are supposed to be here Sunday evening, depending on how early a start they get... it is a long drive..hopefully they can stay a week or so...
Just paid a bill and got laundry started , hubby had to go find lightbulbs for the fixture in kitchen , glad cause the ones there weren't very bright, now I won't have such a hard time seeing if the counters need cleaning...LOL! do need to do the floor in there , more people more mess..

Well off to get dinner in crock pot, to hot to heat up kitchen today, do need to clean oven but use cold oven cleaner on it... definitely not my favorite job...Why would anyone not buy a self cleaning oven! Will be my next purchase, a replacement for this new one they put in but self cleaning and not an elec one either, have a gas hookup so that is what I will get.

Have a good day all! Stay cool as you can too!

It is 84 here right now...but it was a bit warmer in the early afternoon. I have heard that in a few days we will be having the temps you ladies have been having. I guess we need to just be glad that none of us have had snow or ice.

That is a rotten thing to have happen, Sunny. I hope your DH has good luck repairing it in time to get your hay in before the storms come in.

Looks like perhaps a Wal-Mart kind of day.
I wish you all a good one.

We ended up having to make a makeshift repair to finish. DH is gone at the moment to drop it off for a real repair....it is an electrical issue in a small gearbox. The bales are made...we just need to store them later today. Nothing ever goes as easy as one hopes.

We are still getting extreme temps...it is calling for thunder storms tomorrow, and the next day. Today will be a 'get'er done or else' kind of day lol

The hay is all in the barn and the baler repair is not an easy one. The actuator motor is shot, I'm waiting on calls to see what the cost will be to replace it for next years crop. My farm is getting smaller each year...and expense is the reason. It's sad to think about how small scale farming will soon be a thing of the past around here.

We are still getting extreme heat mixed with thunderstorms. It is supposed to cool off by the weekend though.

Yay for Hay in the barn. And yes, small time farming is becoming a way of the past. If I have my stories straight, my SI L would love to farm for a living, but he needs to bring land into the family business t to do so..and land is hard to come by. Then a family member was getting out, and had no family to pass his farm to, Brian was hoping to be chosen as the person to buy the land...well he was one of 3 that were interested and he was not chosen to buy the land. Poor kid...He may have to wait years now to fsrm. His parents have a nice sized farm but are considerably younger than we are, and he will have to share with his sister........At least he and my DD have jobs for now.

It works o.k. It is certainly not like the older models...I remember they'd freeze a house in an hour. This one needs to be on all day just to keep the house comfortable. And saying that, it only keeps the rooms it is in cooler. I am thankful to have it....but I know that if you have an older model then change to this one, you'd be disappointed.

The sad part is that the bigger the model...the more chance you have of having too much moisture put in the air. DD has a friend who bought the larger model...they had wetness on their walls when it was on for the day.

So, in the end...I am thankful for it since I had none at all before. thumbup

Why has everyone taken leave of FB? During the last election I unfriended a few people - not because of who they voted for, that's their own business, but because every post became political. I like looking a pictures of children and flowers and such. I don't want to talk politics or religion on FB.

Sunny, did you figure out how to get rid of the mold on your shingles? Is your ac a window unit? I've lived with air conditioning most of my life. My youngest sister was asthmatic and we always had air in our homes so she could breath. But we didn't always have it in our cars and I remember it being very hot going places - coming from the cool inside to the hot of the car. Not sure how that was supposed to make it easier for her. We have to units now but they're outside big things - one for upstairs and one for downstairs. I think they have a humidifier on them.

That is why I haven't tried to return to FB, Sheri. The politics is just going to get weirder over the next year.
The moisture in the houses is already there, Sunny. It just condenses on the walls when they're cooler than the air in general, like on a soda can. A dehumidifier helps. It is something we don't have to deal with in the desert much. I use swamp coolers that actually add water.

Also, it is harder on your A/C unit and the air inside to turn it off and on. Money-wise you would need 2 identical houses and leave one on 24-7 and turn the other off and on to see about the money aspect of it.

Kids are gone now, and Grandma is cleaning up.

Sheri, I left FB because of the drama as well....it wasn't worth my sanity. Yup, my AC is a window unit and the shingles didn't have mold after all....the stain just wore away. I poured straight bleach on a few and it never changed the color. Strange thing is that it is only the South West walls on both sheds that were affected...I'll re-stain next year.

Tina, my ac unit has a fan and dehumidifier built in as well...I think I should run the dehumidifier at night and the ac during the day.

Do you have central air Junie?

Yes we have central air. I worry about how old the unit is as my DH says that it would be very expensive to replace.

Rod just went out to cut grass..I really need to try to get out and water some ( right now) and then soon work on my blackberries. Surely I can get out and work on them esp. if the next few days will be cooler. ,( I can hope anyway)

Tina, the dehumidifier at night worked nicely....mind you, DH opened all the windows this morning when it cooled down outdoors. lol

I have a full day of laundry to do. I wish I had a second clothes line...that might be a plan for next year.

Good morning !

I do miss my clothesline. And mind you we did not have one in town either. However when we first moved to the farm, Rod did not even ask...he just put one up. It had a "T" that had 3 lines on it. I usually just used the 2 lines, but I do missed the bleaching affect the spring and fall sun had in my clothes. With the winds at that time, I also would put out shirts on hangers, and pin the hangers to the clothesline. Ah I miss those dsys.

My clothesline is just two cedar poles(two cut trees) stuck in the ground. They will need to be replaced in the next few years though, they've already been cut to the point that I have nothing left to cut and put back in the ground(as the wood decays)...they've lasted 23 yrs though. thumbup

Well wishes for today's appt. Junie.

I could make a T for the clothes line but I worry that things would tangle...did you ever have that problem?

I need to cut the lawn and do all the trimming today...any volunteers to help? lol

I second that ...I love ice cream.

My riding lawn mower won't start again. I told DH that the solenoid was messed up but he didn't believe me. Of course, it acts up again when he isn't home. I have well over an acre to cut by hand now...I've been out there over 5 hours and am still only 2/3 done. I remember doing it all by hand 10 years and fifty pounds ago....I'm not what I used to be haha

I'll be ordering a new solenoid next week.

Thanks Tina...I hope it doesn't cost much. I am so thankful for my riding mower...it only took me getting heat stroke for DH to buy it haha

Thanks to Bestofour, I have found borer's in my raspberries and my roses. I never even knew what those beetles were. It said to look for two rings on the stem and cut below and burn/bag the affected pieces. She saved my plants thumbup

This year seems to be the worst I have ever seen with bug problems. I also have earwigs in my potted cherry tomatoes....along with the spotted leaf fungus. crazy

The bugs you're getting are because of warming weather. Everything is migrating north to keep cool.

Sorry you have borers Sunny. I"ve tried everything to keep them off squash but they fly in. I"ve put foil around the stem but it didn"t work for me. I"ve read the larvae will overwinter in compost so when compost is put on the garden in spring......tada. I guess if it"s turned often enough they"ll die out.

I like a clothesline too.

So glad that Sheri aided you in getting rid of the borers. That makes me smile.

Tomorrow is a day that I get to go to my great niece's birthday party. My whole family will be there...I am so happy.

About the 3 line clothes line. I usually just used the 2 outer lines. But when I did use the 3 rd, I put short things on the middle line such as wash clothes and socks. The 2 outer were far enough away from each other that but was not a problem. Really sheets were the on!y issue, so it all went we!!. I was also no dfu! If what I put where on the lines.

Going to bed soon...good night. wavy

Tina, I never thought of that. I guess even the bugs need to escape the heat...in the past few years we have seen insects not ever seen around here before.

Bestofour, I am going to keep vigil at cutting new growth tips as I see girdle markings. I hope it works.

Have fun today Junie.

We might head out to a local little festival...until the thunderstorms take over again before supper. They are having kids games, a tea party, and a horse pull. What I like about this fair is that everything is free to the kids. thumbup
