I am glad all is well Junie, those storms can do some awful damage.

It's my mothers b-day today...the kids have been eyeing the cake since yesterday. I am sure they will be calling her as soon as they wake up lol

My sister is coming home today. I will be going home on Saturday.

Today I straightened up the house here, and I will go to mom's when I finish my coffee.

Morning all,
My weekend plans are to make a bunch of pancakes, waffles and French toast for the boys to eat while they are here, will have both elec skillets and the elec griddle going , they can eat a lot, will precook a couple pkgs of bacon too , will make breakfast times go faster that way..

Hubby is leaving Sun morning to go get them and will be back Tues evening , unless he decides to stop on way, so have a while to get rest of house ready, room is painted and ready to go, just need to get our laundry done up today and put up curtains I ordered for living room when they get here, use the ones in there in my office to block a little of the light for when one of the boys wants to sleep in here on the airbed, that will be after Carrie , Jon and Timba come down at end of July.. really looking fwd to seeing all of them...

Well off to see what else I can get done...Have a good day all!

Hi all, we had mild storms through the night....the lightning made it hard to sleep.

Enjoy the time with your family Nana.

Not sure what today holds....nothing is getting done outdoors with the rain showers, it dries enough to get wet again. My SIL has her front roof reshingled two weeks ago but the contractor can't get a full day of dryness to do the back. touched

Sorry for the delay in your SIL's roof, but sadly the rains will be non-existent sooner rather than later. We will all be lamenting that.

I hope your storms did no real damage. I like the rain and thunder to help me sleep. But often they are too loud for sleep.

I am kinda antsy to get home so I can see how my plants are doing. I worry that Rod's idea of watering them is not the same as mine. I did leave him written instrutions, but......

The storms were light...our big storms only come in August.

I'm waiting for laundry to finish then I have to grab a shower. Then off I go to pick up a few things at the local grocery store.

Our big storms of wind used to come in fall. And fire season with it. But these days I cannot predict that any more.

It has been a fairly dry June. Likely to be followed by dry July through August. Unles we get a lot of August monsoonal weather. Then dry probably the rest of the year.
I dread this season.

Has California always been like this Tina? I always thought it was a green plentiful growing state.

Cal is a green growing state. It alone is the fifth largest economy in the world. But a great deal of our growing happens in fall-winter-spring. Only a few summer crops are grown because of water needs. We feed a lot of the people in the US and the rest is shipped around the world. Plus animal feed crops and cotton and other things.

I did not mean to give a lesson. Just hard to answer Sunny's question in a simple statement. And my state covers several growing zones (7 through 11). Here in my zone we are green in winter/spring and brown in summer/fall where it is not irrigated.

No, I was facinated. Very nice to learn how your area wotks. Thanks so much. Sorry I expressed it so poorly.

Green in the winter would be nice. Green is far better than ice and snow ( on the roads).

I think I would take your weather over mine any day.

Headed to bed. Sweet Dreams everyone.

Tina, I keep forgetting how areas can grow outside of our normal growing season. I can't imagine what it is like to be able to see green in Winter...thank you for the info, it was interesting thumbup

So root crops such as potatoes probably do not do well there I assume?

Root crops do fabulous here in winter. We provide a lot of those taters as well as onions and a whole rainbow of colors in the winter.
I was born and raised here so it is normal for me. I went to Connecticut and Michigan for my 14th summer and remember how wonderful I found the year-round green and summer rains. In my early 20s I moved to Con and NY for a few years and learned about the climates. I moved back to Cal at nearly 30 because of the climate. I love the fact that we can provide fresh food to the world that is covered in snow and ice. I am thankful for all farmers.
Good morning. Ask me more about agriculture in Cal. I can go on for hours.

Go on for hours Tina...I find it interesting as well. I just can't imagine such a climate....it boggles my mind.

Well, I cut and fit all the window parts for the new portable air conditioner....I won't need it anytime soon but it never hurts to be ready. It will be a blessing when August rolls around.

Well, I am glad that you have the prep work done for the A/C unit.
But I am thinking if I remember right, you had really hot weather before August. I hope you do not, but glad you are ready for it if an odd hot day pops up here and there.

PS I do my yard work well before 10 am in the morning and after 6 pm on the evening during the really hot weather.

We are further south than we are used to be. The sun is at a different angle and is much more oppressive than we are used to. Same temps real!y, but different heat...and it was plenty hot in middle Illinois.

Hi all, it is a dry day ahead...they are already working on SIL's roof. I am cutting the lawn and weed wacking today...it is in need of a good trim. I hope the mosquitoes already ate their breakfast lol

Glad SIL can get her roof put on. Sorry you have to cut grass.
Sad to say, I do not think mosquitoes are ever full...at least the ones that live here are not.

Good morning. I don't like either mosquitoes or gnats. My biggest pain is deer fly though. I can react normally to any of them and once in awhile I get like an allergic reaction. It is awful. But the only bite on my body right now is a cat bite. He loves brushing until you touch where he doesn't want you to go.

Grass is cut, it will look nice for a few days until the weeds take over again lol

I am on my way to put up my screen door, I hate having to take it down for the Winter.

Today is Canada Day here, GG is gone with my mom to the local events....I am taking advantage of having a kid free day to get chores completed.
