I just answered your last post in the last CH. Pop on back to see it, Sunny.
Thank you for a new room. It's nice and cheerful in here with the fire crackling there.

Yes Tina, I loved those 'car seat' bags...it was so easy to pop a wee one in and not worry.

I just made a pork hock stew for supper. I don't make it often because of the fat content when the hocks melt down but my gosh...it is my favorite stew of all. luv

we call them Ham Hocks here, well we did in Illinois..who knows if they even have them here....
BUT either way I LOVE them as well MOM would make beans with them..I can still taste them..mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I was shocked when I was told the kids cannot wear heavy coats when in the car seats or the car seat will not restrain them properly.....and that is not just a local rule.

Both my girls have 2 sets of coats for their kids--one for when they are in the car & one for when they are out playing in the cold.

Going to sleep...nity nite

Wow Junie...I guess even if they made that rule here, no one would follow it. It is minus -34* this morning...one degree shy of cancelling school. We look like eskimoes waiting at the bus stop lol

I imagine you as an expert on keeping warm, Sunny. But that's darn cold.
I hope everyone has a wonderful first of February. And your groundhogs frolic in the gloom tomorrow.

Yeah, groundhog's day has always seemed odd to me. There is always 6 1/2 more weeks of winter (calendar) after. And as for winter (climate) is variable depending on how north you are and things. But I can wish for a shortened winter for you, at least!

The storms are here, Sunny. But I am not affected badly by them. I sent Jonni out yesterday (the only clear day) to shop for stuff for the next few days and am ready to hunker down. I will have to take my trash down to the dumpster soon. I can do that in the rain, though. We could conceivably see some snow in the next few days. That would be pretty. And short.

I should say more. The warning are mostly for the recently burned areas and those downhill from them. That is not me.
And then there is the winds expected. Gale force winds of 60 mph or 96.5 kph and up are expected in places today. That means trees down and things. Or trucks blown over on the highways. I'm not going out.
Right now it is calm, steady rain and 48*f or 9*c. So we are good for now. And likely to remain that way.

I'll get Rodney right on that !
Tina:
The diapers are requested now...once upon a time I saw them and thought oh, how cute...now when I change Nora & Cora, they say they wAnt Mickey Mouse diapers. Heidi however wants "mommy diapers". You need a scorecard around the girls sometimes...

Probably pretty good eating, with the hedgehog. But I don't want to be around for the event, Sunny.
Give them a choice, Carol. How is the potty training going?

I ask them which diaper I should use every time I can be thrm. They also have opinions on which of my diaper creams I need to use on them. Like I said, you often need a scorecard when it comes to the girls.

About potty training....when Heidi says she needs to go potty, you need to listen to get because she will go on the potty. It's is ok at it & poor Nora knows what the deal is but I do not think her body is matured enough yet. If you put her in " big girl panties" & she has an accident, she gets very upset.

Now that I re-read what I wrote, I should have explained better. There was a Documentary about a set of triplets who were adopted into 3 different homes, in 3 different economic situations, where each family had already adopted a baby girl a few years previously. They found each other by accident when they were 19. The adoptive parents had no clue.

Drinking my coffee now.

Yes after I read what you wrote I knew I had not made myself clear...sorry I will try to be more careful from now on.

Way warm today...when I was out I saw a girl in shorts and no coat..I felt silly in my jacket and jeans.

Update: I just finished cleaning the sun porch, the front door glass, and I put out the Valentine's flag and door decoration.

It is a milder day, only -8*C (17*F). As crazy as that sounds...it is a welcome break from the bitter cold.

It is the usual 'scrub and mop' Monday here.

There are days that I would be happy with 17*F. Sunny. I say take what you can get.

I need to scrub and mop but I think I will straighten up the girls room. I was going to make up clean beds in there yesterday but it was such a nice day I cleaned up the sun porch instead.
I will put up Valentine's Day clings on the Windows in there with the girls his week, they should enjoy that.

Do they all nap together in one bed at your place?

I haven't put up a single Valentine thing yet....I seem to fall behind for even the little holidays. why

I do mainly clings. I do have a very few ceramic pirces...when I had the fireplace, I made " bloomers" for every holiday . So, there is that...and then few wooden pieces. But I do not get carried away.
Then
I send cards out with stickers in them to the Grands in Virginia, and my great nieces. The Grands that are local will get a little candy and a card.

Freezing rain on top of snow, brrr. We could get snow today. I hope if it stays cold, we at least get the 'pretty' to go with it.

Do you personally see snow often where you live Tina?

That is a good question, Tina.....do you get snow very often. ?

Sorry for the freezing rain, esp. Since it is falling on top of the snow. So glad that you all get to stay in.

See it? Yes. Up higher on the mountains than I am. There are ski resorts within a few miles. I have to scrape snow off of my vehicle windows in order to see about once a year. And have enough to build a small snowman every few years. Have had it stick for more than a day once. I live at about 2000 feet above sea level. If it snows on the mountain today, I'll get it. Maybe.

Tina, the kids must love to see the snow when there is enough to build a snow man. Stay safe on the roads.

GG is off to school and I have to head out again in a few to try get the ice off my car....it's going to take more than the defrost heater in it. My scraper is about worn out...I have to get another one soon. There is another storm brewing for Friday.

Yesterday, I made banana muffins to warm my kitchen up. I pulled a cube of rock hard butter out of the fridge to soften but it wasn't softening. Too cold. So I opened the oven door and put it in a glass measuring cup to get it to room temps. Room temperature is relative when baking.

I love banana muffins.....bananas are the cheapest fruit we can buy here. It's a staple in many homes.

Hello. I have the girls today and tomorrow. The bad part of their sickness is gone, but they now have sore bottoms and are not in good humor for the most part.

Their mom is letting them have bread, crackers, bananas, Apple's and the occasional lunch meat or say scrambled eggs for protein.

Grandma is officially out of Bananas and only has 1 Apple left. I think it is time to send Grandpa to the store.....at least they are eating good.

Bananas are a must have for Teddy. There are very few fruits he eats because of texture issues. So we go through a lot of them.
Sweet dreams all.

Well bananas are very good fruits ! So good for Teddy.

The Wal-Mart here has mini bananas, medium bansnas, and regular bananas. The gir!d are very impressed with the small ones. Personally, I think they are too sweet.

Sweet dreams everyone !

The little ones are perhaps 2-1/2 to 3 inches long and are very sweet (to my notion) the medium ones are have 4 inches long and taste like regular bananas, then of course the regular ones. It is the novelty, plus it makes me smile to see the girls think they have something special.
I only saw the little ones perhaps two times back home, Here at the Wal-Mart anyway, they seem to be a regularly stocked item.

No school today, the rural roads are flooded.

And oh, good morning .

We are lucky enough to have regular bananas here...and only .99 cents a pound.

Just got back from GG's dentist appt. They done a check up and cleaning...she has a small cavity starting on a baby tooth. I have to wait for an appt. in July to fix it. touched

Tina: I guess the ground is high here but we ended up with a small leak in the unfinished area in the basement. Too many peop!e pour a basement then add waterlines & such....and then do not properly deal the opening that was made.

Thing is a bit to the north of the town we live in there is lower ground and it all floods when there is a lot of rain. Roads included. So the town my DD teaches in which is about 20 to 30 minutes to the north west is very low so several of the rural roads flood easily and flash flooding is a real concern. They have also cancelled school tomorrow.

We are supposed to get freezing weather beginning tonight and then continuing on & off until sometime Sunday...I think. I guess I should have gone grocery shopping today when Val & the kids left. Oh well..we will get by if we cannot get out.

Making oven BBQed chicken and onions & potatoes tonight for supper.

Johnny eats at least 1 banana every day. I don't eat them. It's a texture thing I think. Not sure when that changed for me because when I was younger I liked bananas and I can eat them in a bowl of Rice Krispies.

77° here today. Mosquitos are already out. Hope it gets cold again.

Sheri, Don't talk about mosquitoes yet. lol

I never got a chance to watch much news yesterday Junie, is the flooding bad? I seen something this morning about it for Illinois.

Keep warm Tina.

School is cancelled again today...it is snowing at the moment, turning to freezing rain for the rest of the day. We usually get this weather in January.

I do not think the flooding is real bad. I think the possibility for flash flooding is a real possibility, so the school thought to be safe. There is no school today either. But that may have a bit to do with the forecasted icy roads.( We did not get)...yes, the weather is far worse in IL. At least the amt. of snow they are getting is heavier than usual. At least they are equipped to treat the roads when they get it. They are not really ready for snow & such in this area.

Therapy today.

Our sports program only has the children playing within a two hour drive against other schools. There is only a girls basketball team at the Junior high school and a hockey team at the high school. Our schools are so small that it is hard to form teams. Over the years they have lost the boys basketball team, the girls volley ball team and the girls hockey team...they now allow the few girls to play on the boys team.

We are under a wind advisory for today....and it is bad out there. DH just got called to work to clear drifting snow on the highway.

Tina, It's so strange...I don't know how you can deal with the heat where you live.

I fought the winds to go pick up Grand boy...if the power goes out then at least he'll be warm. The winds are supposed to get worse tonight with a severe wind chill. DH is still at work....I am glad to be nestled in my house(that is after I picked up the recycling can and all it's contents after the wind knocked it over) badday

Hello! I am glad you made it home with Grandboy. I hope he knows what a good Grammy you are. I guess you should have brought his Momma with you, huh ? While I know your DH's job needs to be done, I hope he gets home safe

I too think that Tina is lucky lady to live where she does. Of all of us, I think her weather is the mildest.

I have pretty good weather. It does get hot and humid in the summer but it doesn't last long. And when it gets cold in the winter that doesn't last long either. I like it. I think I would get cabin fever living where it snowed a lot. I'm a little bit claustrophobic.

I really do not know much of the weather here. So far I think the winter season lasts as long as back in Illinois, but the bad weather days do not seem to last as long at one time.
The summers are unbearable. to my notion, but it could have been a severe year. Time will tell.
ISheti, if we are trapped in the house in the cold, we do things like baking or special projects ( craft things for me) they help a lot. My mom would clean house and then cook special things for us to honour minds off of the bad wrather.
If power was out, we would all sit together and play games like " I am thinking of a color"....you know, games we could play just sitting around.

Good morning.

The winds are fierce and DH got called to work again. The snow just keeps blowing and filling in the roads....he said there were a few accidents last night. If it keeps up then GB will have another sleepover.

I hate winds with the bitter cold. It is hard to heat the house and many end up with chimney fires.

Sunny, sorry for the fierce winds. I am sorry for what troubles it is causing, but I bet G B will be happy to stay another night. I can remember at the farm, when we had such strong winds, we had to either stay in the kitchen or in the Lightroom keep warm, depending on which way the wind was blowing. Has not happened here yet, but then the outside of this house is brick. I am guessing that helps ?

Drinking my coffee now. I may have to make something to warm up the kitchen.

A brick house is great for insulating Junie...that would be a dream to have such a thing here. There are only a few brick houses in the area and they were built over 40 years ago.

The winds died down enough for me to take GB home. I'd have kept him another night but GG is starting to complain with a sore throat and has started to cough...so, here we go again crazy .

You know, U hate winter. If it is not the cold wearing everyone down, it is various germs going around making everyone sick. I got one will be so happy when spring/ summer gets here.

Hi all. GG said she was well enough to go to school...although a few more degrees colder and it would have been cancelled. I agree Junie...come on spring.

I have been waiting months to get in with a new dentist. I finally got an appt with her for Wednesday...and the forecast is calling for over a foot of snow that day. The dentist is an hour drive from here so now I will have to call today to cancel. If this keeps up, I'm investing in a pair of dental tooth pliers lol

Sorry for having to cancel your Dentist appt, Sunny. Mine are on Saturdays with VAl so she does the driving. Our next one is in April, so we should be able to make that one. If It were just me, I would make one check up for in the summer months. But oh wel!.

I have a Drs. Appt. today It is just a check up, so no big deal. I think I will finish making up my Valentines for the kids. All my other cards are made up and need to be mailed today. I

I'd make them in Summer as well but we only have coverage in the Winter through DH's job. I told her that I need it to be before the middle of April so she gave me an appt for a checkup, cleaning, filling and extraction on the same day the end of March.

Yes the winter coverage is wonderful indeed.

I can buy dental insurance but it cost is $1.00 a day...my check-ups are $90.00 each so $180.00 a year....so unless I had mmmajor work done every year it is cheaper for me to pay out of pocket,

still raining here.......I am beginning to feel like Noah

We had a very rainy season when Ted was in preschool. I painted a sweatshirt with an ark on it that said "Does anyone have a spare ark.?"

Tina, your rain situation is a feast or famine situation, isn't it?

It is another frigid day and GG is sick with fevers. We are supposed to get another storm tomorrow with over a foot of snow so I hope I can get my mother to come over for an hour so I can make a quick run for a few groceries later. It is calling for another storm for Friday as well, so between the clean ups we will be storm stuck for a few days.

Yes, Sunny. We often get flood conditions and great snow-pack years. But what we have gotten has not brought us out of the drought yet. I hope you manage to get out today.

I did get out. DH came home for lunch so I made the quickest trip ever for a few groceries and some extra kid meds.

I also found out that the new bank machine will not allow anyone to pay bills. We went from having a bank that closed, to having a bank machine that did everything, then one that allowed you to pay bills but no bank book updates...now the new one gives money but won't even let you know how much is in the account, let alone leave you do anything else. We live an hours drive from the bank...I am not impressed.

Glad that you got out, Sunny.
Sorry for the bank situation. Here you can make deposits and withdrawals we can pay bills online and we do some, but I do not care for that, so I do not.

I drove myself to therapy today. I have one more, and then I am done, but I think I will get a free month, and that should do it for me.

I'm scared to click on it...maybe it's a virus????? What happened?

School is cancelled again today due to the storm....I can see them needing to add time to the end of the school year if this keeps up. GG was up all night with her stubborn cough again, those night time coughs are so hard to beat. Thankfully I got her some night time cough syrup yesterday...I hated to buy it but she needs some rest. She had black circles under her eyes.

I have some baking to do for GG's Valentine's class party tomorrow...and DH wants a fresh apple pie. I love the smell of apple pie but not the texture of biting into it. touched

If you click on it you just get a never ending loading thing. Don't bother. I will ask Carol to get hold of James to see if he can make it go away.
I love apple pie but prefer the apples to be well done. Is that your objection to it, Sunny?

I just have a 'texture' thing Tina. I can eat a muffin with a few cooked pieces of apple but the pie itself...no way. I'm just weird lol

Apple pie is baked as well as 36 brownie muffins. I used a whole big bag of apples..(I buy them on clearance when they start to go soft). It's too bad I don't like it...it sure looks pretty haha
