All fresh and new.

The weather is still very cold Junie, it snows a bit every few days....usually we'd get a milder bit of temps here and there but not this year. There are people already worried of running out of wood and the local plumber is going non stop dealing with frozen pipes. He has started telling people to put in an electric baseboard heater under their homes in crawl spaces. shock

We are toasty warm here though....with enough wood to keep us a year ahead if needed.

Today will be a bake sweets and make bread day.

yes they are settling in with me--they used to cry when Mom was leaving now like today, Cora yelled "bye Mommy"..& they all 3 were playing as if it were all normal. it will be fine.

They even let me wash their hair today, See Valarie & Brian are redoing their Bathroom & for the foreseeable future there is no bathtub in the house. So today I washed their hair & tomorrow I will give them a bath.

Something about the polar vortex splitting and sending really frigid cold the eastern Canada and USA perked my ears up. Keep safe, Sunny and all in its path. It sounds like a trip to the grocery store and things that don't take electricity to heat would be in order. I would be wrapping my pipes or something.

Rod & Brian are putting in new dry wall tomorrow night. The man who is putting in the new shower wall & such is coming around the 21st. so I guess it will be ready to go soon after that.

Yes I think too think a grocery run is a good idea, Sunny,

When we lived on "the farm" we kept our pipes that were in a crawl space (so exposed to more cols) wrapped. Then when the temps called for it, Rod would plug them in & keep the pipes heated so the water would not freeze.
we also would open the doors to the under the kitchen sink and the bathroom vanity. Those 2 actions made a lot of difference.

Tina, it is minus -26*F this morning...just shy of cancelling school. We have been forewarned of 'the storm of the Winter' for Sunday and Monday...we are expected to get at least two feet of snow in one storm with blizzard winds and extreme cold. I definitely will make a quick grocery run today since we are also getting a small storm of a few inches for tomorrow.

My pipes are wrapped and my crawl space is well insulated...I also bank my house by pushing all the snow tight against the house after each storm. I am well prepared thumbup
I am so thankful for a small house with an open floor plan in Winter...it makes it so easy to keep it warm.

Carol, my SIL has to open her kitchen cabinets at night in the old farmhouse....if not, it is sure to freeze. Her fault though...she took out the old wood stove and now only has a furnace(which does not throw heat in power outages) touched

We had an old Magic Chef cook/ heat stove combo when we moved into the farm. It was wonderful. But when we remodeled the kitchen it had to go. I replaced it with a Magic Chef stove but it had no heating box in it. I really missed it. When we moved into town, one of then things on our house list was a fireplace. We were happy to have it more than once. Since it had no blower, it would still work in the power outage times. I really miss it. There is no fireplace here although we do have a small gas stove on the sun porch Thing is there is no insulation on that porch. But I guess having it is better than nothing.
However, Valarie has wood burning fireplace if we were to ever be in need of heat.

God bless wood stoves. Even though they are helping the climate change happen. I am unconvinced that the measures currently used to produce power and heating is not worse. I am for solar and wind and better storage capabilities. New houses in California must come with solar panels in the future.
Pouring rain here again. Bummer because I need to go out.
Stay safe and warm, Sunny.

I would never be without a wood stove...it is a necessity where we live(in my opinion). I can't imagine having solar panels as a necessity build...but it would work very well where there is no snow I assume.

I still have not gone to the store.

Yesterday my hand mixer seized up, today my hair dryer quit working....what will tomorrow bring? tapfoot

Sunny, I think you should just stay in bed tomorrow. Lucky for me I have an extra hand mixer in the basement for when mine dies. It was my MIL's.

And oh...let the hair dryer cool off and try it again. It may have thermaled out. And you could take it apart & clean the hair out of it. That may be the issue as well.

Funny story. When my special curling iron stopped working, Rod took it apart to see if he could see what had went wrong. He could not, but after he put it back together it worked like a charm and has for years.

The mixer was a 'no fix' as well as the hair dryer. The gear seized in one and the thermostat went in the other....DH was in town though for work, so I called and at least got a hair dryer. That is a necessity here in my opinion as well. lol

I still never went for groceries, the small storm is only starting at Supper time though. I don't even want to think about the Polar storm heading for us on Monday. nervous

Yup, I have my groceries....and also GB.

DD had to work late due to the impending storm (it will shut down the office for a few days probably)...so I headed up to get him between the small storm we got last night. Then I have to bring him home later before the major storm starts tonight.

If the weather radar is right...we are in for a mess. They are calling for over 2 feet of snow with heavy winds and frost bite warnings....the people in the store yesterday were all in a panic. I bet you couldn't find bottled water anywhere at the moment.

I'll have time to take him home tonight Tina. The snow is starting a bit later than planned...I have supper on at the moment and will head out as soon as he is done eating.

I would keep him here but it is near impossible to take him to the barn in a major storm.....the barn is 3 acres behind my house.

Gee, I feel bad for complaining of a little ice, after hearing what you are in for., Sunny. I hope you can get GB home safely, and you back to your house before the storm begins to hit.

Val Nd I took the girls out early this morning to get diapers. I could not find houseslippers or sweatshirts to save my soul. I guess I will have to wait until next July to buy any....I do wish you could buy things "in season" instead of having to guess what you are going to need months ahead of time.

I wish I could make soup for supper.

Junie, order your slippers online like I do. They stopped carrying the kind I like in the stores but I found them cheaper online.

Weatherwise everything is molding here because of so much rain. The grout on my porch is turning green.

The weather is awful all over the planet...from what the news is showing. Stay safe..wherever you are.

Tina, it must be awful for those caught up in the mess of politics....most people are struggling from pay to pay, let alone not getting any and still having to go to work. It breaks my heart to see those having to seek assistance that used to be the ones giving. Thanks for caring kissie

GB is home and the storm is hitting at the moment. The elderly are in panic mode and it is sad to see. There is nothing we can do but let it fall and clean up afterwards...my cupboards are full, my house is warm and my generator is on stand by. DD can go across the road to a relative if need be who has a wood stove....I am thankful there is a family member nearby her.

I'll update as I can.

Stay safe, Sunny.
Our weather has been gorgeous. Since our nasty rains last week anyway. But our electricity went out a little after midnight and it was not repaired for 15 hours. Just half an hour ago. No rain in our 7 day forecast and highs at 65-70*. I'll take it.

15 hrs is a long time Tina, I hope you did not lose much of your food in the fridge and freezer....enjoy the sunshine.

Are you still getting ice Junie?

I have already gone out twice to clear snow....and I'll head out again in a bit. The winds are just filling in what I am clearing....it's a never ending battle. Mother Nature is winning this round.

Sorry Tina. I just read the wonderful temps you were to get. That is what I was commenting on. Sorry for your loss of power.

No no ice now but late this afternoon it began snowing again. We will see what it looks like around here tomorrow. I guess that is why her school cancelled school. But any time my girl and her babies do not have to be on the riad, I will take it.

Sorry for all the work you are having to do, Sunny. Come on spring !

I just listened to the weatherman and it's 20° with a wind chill of -14. MINUS!!! It's freezing out there and it's because of the wind. We're not used to this. The high tomorrow is 37°. I'm so glad I don't have to go anywhere.

Do any of you use the glasses that are supposed to help with night vision? I ordered a pair even though I read an article that says not to use them.

Oh great, Sheri.. DO let me know what you think of the glasses. I think I would like thrm. My mom says she has a pair, but when I asked to borrow them, she got evasive.

So sorry for your colder than usual temps! Keep warm and safe !
