Today is summer stoltice. The shortest day of the year. From now on it gets better, although you may not feel it right away. Just believe it.

The moon is fairly full and bright tonight. I'm going to fall asleep in dancing moonbeams tonight. Sweet dreams all.

Happy Winter Solstice.

Junie, the cookies are made with a lot of butter, flour, a bit of icing sugar and cornstarch (I'd have to measure it later to give you an estimate..I just usually go by consistency while mixing them). They are rolled out like a sugar cookie and topped with a bud of white buttercream icing and a half a cherry. DH's mother only made them for Christmas...so I have kept the tradition going. DH is like a child...he was all excited to see the bottle of cherries and pound of butter warming up on the counter this morning lol

School has been cancelled again. There is a freezing rain warning this morning, to be followed by heavy rain tonight...the solstice is a bit mixed up this year.

Thanks Sunny. I am sure I can find a recipe, so not to worry. I will start with looking for recipes with 1 pound of butter. lol

Up now, drinking coffee. I am hoping it gets rid of my headache.

I will wrap a bit more today, then begin my baking.

The 1 pound butter made 4 dozen small(2 inch) cookies. I used 1 pound of butter, about 3 and 1/2 cups flour, pinch salt, 2 tbsp cornstarch, 8 tbsp icing sugar. Mix all and roll and cut. 350* for 10 minutes.

Date squares are baking at the minute...butterscotch squares are next. I am on a slow roll. lol

Has quality control (DH) checked them out yet, Sunny?
That is pretty much how I make shortbread. Only I skip the rolling out and cutting part. I pat the dough out flat in a pan, cut into squares and bake. Much less work. I'm lazy. I have stamps that put designs on the tops or a roller that adds designs. I have wavy or crimping rolling cutter for fancier edges if I want to do that. But when they look to much like store bought, I don't like it so much.

O am going to my Families Christmas party..(A Dudley Family Christmas) We have it the Saturday before Christmas. Only now it is a 3 hour drive, so we will say the night in a hotel.

Because of this I will most likely NOT be in tomorrow at all. Sunday we will get up, go to church, eat some breakfast and then come home. I will be in when we get home. See everyone then, wavy

Have fun Carol. kissie

Tina, have you seen the full size rolling pins that are all embossed? I have only seen them on line but they are beautiful. I never thought of using a stamper...I have a holly one here that we used one year for ornaments. I think I will emboss some cookies next year with it.

It is a mess outside. The freezing rain has turned to pouring rain..add that on top of all the snow we have and you have slush everywhere. When this freezes tonight, it will be a skating rink for a driveway. I can just imagine the leaks people are going to have on their roofs...from not shoveling before hand.

I have no plans for today...besides cleaning the house. I also have to put a set of bunk beds together tomorrow(I am going to drop GG off at my mothers to surprise her).

Back in the hotel now. Had a good time visiting with my family. The time was all to short to be sure.
Tomorrow we will go to our church and then ( not that DH knows it yet, but we will go out to breakfast. There are actually restaurants here.)

Goodnight and sweet dreams.

I just saw your post above, Sunny. Yes, I have one of the full sized rollers that put out 20 square cookies. I paid a fortune for it (like $30 about twenty years ago) and it doesn't work like it is supposed to. The carvings seem crudely done and tear up the dough. It could be my fault but I don't think so. I just made a poor purchase. My cookie stamps are just cheap plastic ones I bought when my first kids were little. They are fun doodads. I use to do a lot of baking.
Are you surprising GG or your mother tomorrow? winky

Tina, My plan was to surprise both of them but now my mother has to go visit family in the hospital. I have two Aunts(one my mom's and one of my late father's) that took sick and will be there for the holidays. Oh well, GG knows about the bunk bed anyway.

I am glad that you had a nice time Junie.

GB's day care was supposed to close for a week for the holidays...now they are making it two weeks to do some renovations. Guess who will be here for all that time? lol

Grandma's daycare. When I was a preschooler, my grandparents would babysit for me sometimes. No one else, just me. I was pretty possessive and insisted they were my grandparents, not my cousin's. Funny stuff.
Do you have any budding chefs or something that will keep them occupied?

You can make fantasy fudge with plain old marshmallows too. I prefer working with them for less sticky factor. I don't like digging the stuff out of the jars.

If I thought that it would get to you, I would send you some marshmallow cream. The usual size jar is 7 ounces...but here IF you find any at all it is a large jar (13 oz) or some generic stuff that is also the large jar...gggggrrr

Good for you, Sheri.
Our Christmas was cold and rainy. It was snowy at a little higher elevation and at least 20 car pileup went on a few miles up the pas from me. I am glad I was home then.
I had a good day, Carol. Thanks for asking.

We have a storm front moving thru. Today is rain then We may have snow tomorrow. That is sad because Val bought me a jacket and I need another size. We have this week to return it and get the correct size.

I slept bad last night. I see a nap in my future. Happy Thursday everyone.

I hope you get the coat exchanged Junie.

We are getting a storm tomorrow as well. Hopefully it stays on it's track. I have to take GG to two ultrasound appt's tomorrow, one at 8 am and the other at 11 am(empty bladder than a full bladder). It's an hour drive just to get there...the storm say's it will start at 2 pm. If so, we are good....I'll get home just before it starts to fall.

Good gosh, my grand kids fight with each other. angdev

Safe Travels, Sunny. Thanks about the coat. It can be returned after thisvweek, it is just that my DD will be back at work and so the trip will be more involved.

Sunny, sorry DD has to go through this testing.

Tina, I keep asking and I can never remember the answer - has this year been what is considered rainy for your area? Glad you weren't in that 20 car pile up.

Junie, today I'm returning everything Johnny gave me for Christmas. I asked for one specific thing, which I did not get, and got a bunch of stuff that's either flat out ugly or too big.

Well Sheri, at least he tries..All Rod ever says is " I didn't get you anything" Then he thinks I am going to walk in a store ( you know a farm store or a store like Lowes) and walk down an idle and buy whatever so he is vindicated. I have no idea where his head is at.

I am hopeful that some day bed will figure out that I do not have a list of wants from such stores, or if I do they are not gift type things.

Yes it sure is, Tina. We will stay safe. We went to see what the kids got from Santa, then we came home. We will be staying in for a day or 2, so We will be OK.

I think I will wash clothes today and straighten up the kitchen.

I'd take the gifts from the farm store Junie...and I don't think it's possible to buy me clothes too big either Sheri. I wear my clothes like a 'bag lady' DH says haha

DD's tests are nothing serious...just ruling out any troubles with her nightly bed wetting. I know its psychological...not physical. It's just that if I cancel, I'll have to wait at least 6 months for another appt.

Oh, I have bought many things from a farm store, and one of them here even had some nice clothes and kitchen items, not to mention "some" food, but I really want my bathroom attended to, so.......

Glad that the tests are nothing serious, and I guess better to rule out things. Good luck.

I am glad it is nothing serious with your GG, Sunny. I wet the bed too until I was about nine. I was taken to many doctors about it. But it was just a case of immature bladder. I finally grew up. (I think)

Hi all. Both appt's for GG are completed...and I had I had quite the drive coming home. The snow storm hit hard when I was about 20 minutes short of reaching my house...thankfully I am not scared to drive in snow but the lady in front of me was. She played with her brakes and swerved steadily...I was so glad to see her pull off to let me pass.

On a good note, I did manage to get to Walmart between the two hour wait between the appt's. I bought all next years gift wrap, cards and such on clearance.

Hello all, well it wouldn"t let me get on ,on my IPad with Nana so used ColoNana, and a new password, so far it works, LOL!
Sounds like everyone had a good holiday, we did too , very quiet,, did make a turkey dinner for just us, have leftover turkey to make some enchiladas for us for New Years Eve, talked to kids on the day and FaceTimed so we could see the kids and baby Jameson, was nice.
Well it"s almost my bedtime so hitting it a little early, got to do my year end bookkeeping and set up next yr bills, that"s always a fun time. LOL

Night all, Nana (alias COLONANA)

I had trouble getting in as well Nana when I switched computers.

The storm is finished...but I can't go clean it up with GB here, he was supposed to go up last night but the roads were too bad so I'll take him home after lunch. DH will have another job on his list when he gets home.

I have plans to clean, clean, clean for New Years.

Sounds good Tina.

I absolutely despise glitter...with a passion, and my house is full of it everywhere. We just took the tree down as well. Mind you, the ornaments are just sitting on the couch....I hope it's slow and steady that wins the race. lol

I'm waiting for the plows to do their final pass then I will take GB home.

Sunny, one of my daughters hates glitter too. I don't mind it. Makes the dust look sparkly on the furniture. smile I'm got the ornaments off the tree but I can't take the tree down myself. I'm waiting for Johnny to decide to help me but mostly he's been coming in and going to sleep. He's depressed and sleep seems to be his answer.

Aubry got $390.00 for her birthday and Christmas so yesterday she, Shelley, and I went shopping. Shelley told her she needed to tithe 10% to their church and Aubry decided to give a $35.00 gift certificate from Target to the Ronald McDonald House (which is where Shelley and Tracy stayed while Colby was sick) because it's listed on the wish list. Other than that Shelley let her spend all but about $60.00 of it. It was hard to witness her waste that much money. She bought over $100.00 of makeup. She's 11 years old, not allowed to wear makeup out of the house, so she'll put it on and wash it right off. She bought $50.00 of supplies to make slime from Hobby Lobby, and some other junk at a $5.00 and under store. Shelley and I both kept suggesting she save some of it for later but she wouldn't hear it. This was instead of her having a birthday party and it wasn't up to me.

Nana, when I first read your name it was on Junie's post and I thought it was colon ana and I thought "this is a weird but probably interesting person". smile

I agree that is a lot of money for an 11 yr old to spend at one time. I hope that down the road she realizes she should not have done so. I guess we all have to learn. At least she donated a portion of it. That was a teaching moment.

There is some glitter in my rug as well. I think glitter at Christmas unavoidable.

Well hope I am intresting. LOL!
Today it has been snowing most of the day, about 5 inches out there...... put a video on Facebook ...
We leave our tree up till New Years, then it will all be back to boxes.
I am not fond of glitter much either, glad my girls were not into that growing up....
Well off to get chicken ready to bake.

Of course you are interesting, Nana.

If my tree were up, we would be leaving it up until Epiphany ( January 6 th). So I will leave my Christmas ceramics and Nativities out until then instead.

Evening ,
It"s almost my bedtime, we are going out for breakfast so have to get up early, taking hubbys younger brother, he is autistic so will be an adventure, we go to a cafeteria type restaurant so he will have lots of choices.

It"s still snowing here, have about 6 inches at least, and it"s cold...thought we left that in Colorado,LOL!
WellI am off to bed, have a good night all.

Keep that snow Nana...there is a Colorado low heading for us on New Year's Day. I hope you take most of the snow out of it before it hits us lol

Sheri, Here when GG gets money for b-days or Christmas...we give her $20 to spend on whatever she wants(which is always on cr@p as you have just witnessed with your GD) then the rest goes into her savings account for college.

It is cold out there this morning. Minus 28 and falling...I plan to stay inside and clean all day.

P.S. the glitter we had as children wasn't as fine as the stuff of today....it won't even vacuum up, I have to use a sticky roller.

Happy New Year's Eve Eve. I have plans to be asleep when that happens. Do you have big plans? clap

We have a lot (for here) of snow on the ground.. my dog is not happy , thought he left all that in Colorado... they can keep it too far as I am concerned .. it's one of the reasons we moved to get away from the cold and wet...

We are going out for breakfast with the in laws this morning... I had to take my meds so I ate an English muffin already... never really eat a lot of breakfast so kind of a waste for me to go but hubby likes it so will get coffee and a piece of pie maybe... its cafeteria style so lots of goodies and choices..

After we get home have to work on next yrs budget... at least the first 3 months, then hubby will be on medicare and bills will change again .. it's got to be less than what it's costing us now with his former company... they raised their rates again for this coming yr so glad he is finally OLD as he puts it...LOL!

Well off to get ready to go... always something to keep me busy seems like... Have a good day all!

New Years plans...nine. I had thought we might get asked to watch the kids, so mom & dad could go out, but we have not been asked as of yet, so I guess not. D H is usually asleep by 8:30, so nothing special here. We used to go out to eat early in the evening, but have not for years

Sitting around reading today.

That is my preferred way to spend ny eve, Carol. I will soak some beans (maybe) and put them to cook on Jan 1st. But my kids are pretty iffy about beans so they may be frozen in single serving amounts just for me. I like them tucked into all kinds of meals, salads, soups and just about any pasta meal.

I love beans as well, but DH does not. So I have to order them when at a restaurant or buy them in cans and eat them for lunch. I simply love ham and beans. A p!ace my ceramic friends went to on Tuesdays often had them in their special at lunch time. I do miss that.

What does your DH like that you don't care for, Carol? I cannot eat eggs sometimes. I say I'm allergic sometimes which doesn't make any sense, I know. But eggs will not stay with me at all at those times. I will make my kids an omelet then and have beans for myself. I rarely have beans alone unless they are baked beans. Like I said before, they are served with other things. For one thing, beans by themselves are not a complete protein. Mixed with other grains complete them, so beans and rice, b+ toast, or b+ pasta or even succotash (bean and corn mixture). I love ancient food discoveries and stories.

Rod does not care for beans
but get this--
while he dislikes baked beans a LOT he loves hamburger & beans which is basically baked beans & hamburger.
You brown burger with onions, add pork & beans then add 1/2 cup of Karo syrup, 1/2 cup of catsup and 1 tsp of Worcestershire sauce, (sometimes I add brown sugar instead of the syrup or along with it)
I do like it myself and I do not care for baked beans really.

I just can't swallow the beans from the texture...as crazy as this seems, they make me gag....as do cooked peas.

What is Karo?

Karo is a corn syrup, either light or dark. It is used in a lot of candy making to help it set. In New Zealand they use golden syrup just like it pretty much.
Sweet dreams all.

Bless Tina for knowing how to properly explain the corn syrup thing.

Good morning. Raining here, there may be storms, ...which I admit is better than snow or ice.

Happy New Year's Eve !
